I Hit It With My Axe: Episode Eight: Don't Tell Us, Right Now!

And Rorschach, we can totally tell it's you. This "II2" handle isn't fooling anyone who's read your journal.

Some people don't seem to understand that bit about not being abusive in the guidelines when they register at forums.

Not being abusive, being honest, a pornstar is simply a glorified prostitute and marketing a video of people playing DnD because they have sex on camera for money is not right in anyway, also stating my opinion on the "show" is far from abusive. But I may have missed something in my fit of rage so please do point out the post so I may see if I am wrong and/or explain my reasoning and tone behind the post. I do try to be reasonable.

Porn star is generally understood to mean something other than whore, which carries far nastier connotations in English. You're using an argument from a set theory stance that while internally consistent isn't the way the language is used, and you're using it to justify an abusive comment, which is against the rules of almost every internet forum, everywhere. Including this one.

Clearly you think you're justified in doing so; as you say, you're enraged. But to those of us outside the moral complex that demands you do this, you're just coming off as a jerk, to put it mildly.

Zak, your goblin voice is awesome! Keep up the good work guys!

A pornstar
-has sex for money
A whore
-has sex for money
Do you see something similar, and I use whore as a synonym for prostitute since it in fact IS. Not meant as in the commonly used English connotation. As for "Fit of rage" it is more of my dislike of a show that does nothing but enforce an already prevalent stereotype of gamers I have to deal with enough throughout the day ALREADY.

You from my point of view come of as someone trying to pick a fight with someone with another opinion using rather vague rules usually based on interpretation of the one enforcing them against me because you have no real argument other than "HES RONG CUZ I SEYZ SO!!!!"

mandymorbid:
Appropriate nomenclature.

Interesting perspective. As far as people calling y'all whores, just brush it off. It's those people who will end up old and alone with their hatred as their only company behind their high and mighty walls hypocritical "morality".

Wow this episode is the best so far. Again, maybe this is just because I'm an outsider fascinated by the world of D&D but I really like this series. It's truly getting better and I'm excited to see where it goes.

I never claimed high morality or any superiority over people, and insulting someone by saying they are lonely and always will be over the internet is like talking to a mirrior and only reflect your own insecurities.

Whores are generally understood to have sex with anyone who forks over the cash, without discretion. You can be a pornstar, on the other hand, by filming yourself with your spouse and selling the video. Likewise a sex surrogate who teaches the recently disabled how to become sexually active again in their new condition would fit your definition of a whore, although most people would say that they were not.

On the other hand, Miss Morbid has just supplied us with a far more entertaining definition.

The problem is your lack of tact. Sure you can make your argument that a whore is the same as a pornstar. But that's like saying a vagina is the same as a cunt. While technically that may be a true statement, one carries a far stronger connotation. The tactful thing to do would be to think about which one is less offensive and go thusly. While you yourself may have meant no harm in the statement, most people who choose to use the word whore instead of pornstar DO in fact mean it in a harmful way. So it's no one's fault but your own if people misinterpret your meaning.

That statement was a general one, not made specifically at you. Sorry for not clarifying my own meaning :)

Is there any question that he's trying to be offensive?

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt :) call me naive if you must, but I like to call myself positive ;)

We don't get paid to have sex. We get paid TO LET PEOPLE FILM IT. It isn't sex for money--it's sex because we want to have sex and we don't mind letting others see us doing so. If you want to believe we don't like having sex with the people we've chosen to have sex with, that's your business, not mine.

Just like we don't get paid to play D&D--WE GET PAID TO LET SOMEONE FILM IT.

Don't understand purpose. Candid exposure of people contrary to tabletop gaming expectations? Attractive girls, counterculture chic - titillating audience, but otherwise just as exciting as sidelining any other D&D game.

Does this exist to entertain, or forward subculture propagation? Does neither successfully.

Don't think creators thought much before turning on new digital camera.

Weak delivery needs tightened production to realize latent potential. Show is broken, not bankrupt.

I think you are missing the point imo.

The subject is D&D, the hook is attractive women, but the main point is you add these two together and you have yourself one heck of a campaign.

It's irony and sarcasm at its best.

The stereotype for D&D is nerdy boys playing D&D with soda pop and cheetos while the DM is making Boris Karloff impressions. I would never have imagined a womens (especially the ones playing in "I Hit It With My Axe") group to ever play D&D. The other stereotype is that pretty girls don't play D&D, much less know what a d20 is, or what the term DM means (etc, etc, etc). The breaking of these stereotype is great fun, and dare I say, genius.

There are other undertones of irony but I don't want to outline an essay with a thesis, supporting topic sentences, or a paragraph of opposition ^__^

I know the editing was not quite what it should be, but that goes with anything, and I mean anything you do for the first time. There are always the rough spots, but as I and other musicians say when practicing "I need to spend time to woodshed it," and once you have the rhythm and notes down it's all about "polishing it."

It's just great to watch these players rp their characters and try and outsmart the DM! All the while, creating interest in D&D. This is a win win for sure!

Also, it's funny :D

"Wait, that means he didn't like getting his foot chopped off!" Best line.

And speaking of clarifying the point, Miss Morbid comes in with the win!

A whore/prostitute is different than a pornstar in some small ways as a pornstar is generally treated better for no apparently reason other than working for a larger corporation than just a pimp with a strong hand. And I do accept the guilt on any misinterpretations as I was just to lazy to type out "prostitute" rather than the much shorted word "whore" but ah well, at least some people in this thread are respectful and treat people with other opinions as equals or close to one.[quote="chepenoyo" post="6.192908.6106461"]Is there any question that he's trying to be offensive?

This guy on the other hand is overly sensitive and I really wish he would try to not take offense to everything I type out.

You guys are working me here I haven't been foruming for a while and this discussion is much more typing than I'm used to at this hour.

Edit: sleeping as it is 12:30 am zzzz

Hahaha, secretly we're just here to help work your typing skills ;) And thanks. I agree s'all good.

Garlicnow: Clearly, disagreeing with you when you're lashing out in "a fit of rage" (your words) is a sign that I am over sensitive, indeed.

My basic stance: I like this show. Your opinion is your own, and you're entitled to it. You're not entitled to be abusive to the cast.

rddj623:
Zak, your goblin voice is awesome!

Amen to that brother!

Since 'garlicncow' and 'Arlyn' registered just to post about how much they hate the show and how watching DUMB WHORES IS NOT ENTERTAINING ARRRRGGGGGGG, I'm going to register just to show my support. Watching a DM try to deal with players who aren't the normal nerdy types is really interesting if you're a DM yourself or interested in game design, plus there are hot girls who say funny things. What more could you want?

The best show on the Escapist just got better! Justine really seems into the game from the get-go, and the new, longer-cuts style shows more of the game than the earlier ones. Everybody's personality continues to shine through, Frankie's and Kimberly's in particular with this one.

Two big thumbs up also go to cracking the 10-minute mark with the vid - I wish I could watch the whole sessions, but I'll take what I can get (would also love a "DM's commentary" with Zak and one of the girls. The Robot Chicken DM did commentary for his line of vids, and I think one for this show would smoke the pants off the WotC crew.

I continue to be baffled about posters who post on the forum for seemingly the sole purpose that they CAN bitch about something. If you don't like the show, don't watch it. I'm not talking about constructive criticism; it's, for whatever reason, someone decides that something about the show "insults" them and they break out the snark.

Just to see if the rest of the shows on this site are any better, I decided to watch a few. "Game Dogs" - well, I'll never watch that one again. It definitely had nothing for me, but I didn't post on its forum, I simply moved on. "Zero Punctuation" - supposedly the end-all, be-all for these Escapist shows, I found it a bit overrated. So this Australian guy talks really fast while animations go on. Yeah, he's funny, but this isn't reinventing the wheel. That show with the medieval people trying to get "the chosen one" to go somewhere - not really a good show.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

This is the second time I've I've seen a critical lasso.

Porn Stars are pretty ordinary people when it really comes down to it.

TETSUOrocks:

Indeed. Strangest thing, in my experience most people actually tend to be. ^-^

This is getting better and better :)

This episode seemed better than the previous ones.

While I found the show boring and bland in the first couple of episodes (except for watching Kimberley Kane...), the show is really coming into it's right in these last couple of episodes. Your enjoyment is showing, and really is tempting me, as a non roleplayer, to try and get into D'n'D.

I am really starting to like this show, especially for the personalities of the people involved. You are having fun, and I am having fun with you.

garlicnow - it's the same difference as commenting on a show about black people and referring to them as the N-word, or a show about gay people as...any one of a number of words, really. Sure, it may fit *your* definition, but it won't fit everyone's, and it's certain to be offensive language. For example, you're being intentionally abrasive, but I doubt you'd appreciate it if I were to refer to you as "that jerk."

Also, whoa, I didn't expect to see Mandy here. Maybe I should have checked the comments section more often. :-P For the record, Mandy, you have singlehandedly shifted my perspective on the kind of punky look you embody from "eh, it's okay if you're into it" to "wow, more people should try that!"

Now I'm gonna be a jerk myself. ^.^ I've been watching this from the first episode, and it really seemed lukewarm to me for a while. There was too much going on, I think, for me to follow what anyone is saying -- which is honestly a fault of my own as I can't keep such things straight in real life either -- and the cuts did not help with my disorientation. The shows have been getting steadily better, though, except today whose quality jumped through the roof. It's gonna be tough to keep raising the bar here guys!

And, squee! Justine Joli! Pardon me. :-)

I dunno, this is the first episode I have given a chance in a while and I just don't really get it.

Why are they porn stars? Is it just because they are out of place like a minstrel show?

I just don't really see why I would want to watch a bunch of people who wouldn't be as fun to hang out with as my friends playing a game I wouldn't want to play with them.

This was the best episode yet. There was a lot of good stuff going on.

Also, it was such a relief that Justine Jolie is into it. I mean, Sasha Gray may be a nice lady, or a good friend, or whatever, and she's smoking hot, BUT she has been a giant sucking chest wound of not-fun in every episode so far. Maybe there were other factors at work I don't know about, but I am glad to see her go.
