Monster Hunter Tri

This week, Zero Punctuation reviews Monster Hunter Tri.

Watch Video

Good review as always, I don't either understand japanese games...

Those Dog Babies are awesome.
Yahtzee should make a game with those as antagonists.

Really needed to see how YOU BASTARD held up to keep me going through this Uni work. Of course I have never heard of this game until now, but that makes it all the more fun!

this game sounds horrible. Brilliant review as always Yahtzee

Completely agree, as ever. Can't believe I was actually bored enough to buy this pile of tripe...

Hooray another shitty game for the wii

I don't get it why do Japanese people like this sort of grind fest with no storyline(final fantasy and so many other JRPGs are grind fest with a storyline)

I know it's silly to expect Yahtzee to give a positive review, but I was genuinely disappointed that he couldn't find anything actually GOOD to say about this game. Was actually surprised to learn this is a Japanese game, considering those promotions

So... did the game have a plot? Was there any value to collecting anything and upgrading it? Or was it literally just a circle of upgrading to make it easier to collect so you can upgrade more?

Also, on the note of visual novels, I've "played" good visual novels and enjoyed them, it's just I enjoyed them in the same way I enjoy reading a book. If you come into them expecting a gaming experience then they are undeniably the worst games in existence, but you want to read a book that sometimes has multiple endings then they can be lovely.

"Sharpen Other Sword" made me laugh heartily. Thankfully no one was around in the office to hear it.
And I do still use Microsoft Access, although I hate it and can't wait to kill it stone dead.

Excellent work as always Yahtzee, and special thanks for this one as I was actually curious about it. Now I know better than to waste money. You've done me quite a favour.

I never really got into MMORPGs and I'm glad I didn't. This game just sounds like a giant time suck but without other people to get in the way of the grinding.

He mentioned the crap Mmorpg-like stuff, which seems reasonable and dull, but does the online aspect make it any less sucky?

Also I'd do a quest to collect Flowering Costners :)

Wow, Yahtzee completely missed the point of the game. Me thinks he didn't play long enough to fight some of the bigger monsters.

I've got this game on order, I'm hoping the learning curve won't be as much of a pain in the ass as the psp versions.

Great review anyways, thankfully nothing i wasn't expecting!

"Hunter gatherer of the young dinosaurs pathetically mewling their last as the glory of their mother's warmth slowly drifts away" sounds like such a good game :P Well, I'd say after that review I'm probably not likely to buy the game, not that i would be likely to buy many games on the wii, but still..

Well I am glad I did not take heed of the positive reviews. This review pretty much explains exactly what the footage looked like to me, running around smacking monsters in order to gather up bits of pointless tat.

This one was good. I had a few good laughs.....until the end. The Wii deserved this game.

I tried playing that co-op monster hunter oh the PSP, and bloody hell I hated it. It took hours of tedious chasing to kill it, even if I did bring along of my friends.

Calumon: I was considering getting this... then I realized I don't earn money. : (

Yay for serious games on the Wii requiring a new controller.

is it me or does he review a lot of wii game lately

No mention of the online and/or multiplayer aspect? Still good episode as always.

On a side note to people actually take what Yatzee says at face value? I mean you'd have to be pretty silly to do that since if you did every game apart from Adventure Island Dizzy would be shit and you'd never play anything, ever.

That game looks awesome lol. I was hoping for Red Dead Redemption but one would have to stop playing it to review it, which could be difficult. :D

Ridiculous. Frick'n stupid. they need to stick to dating sim's and porn hahaha

Judging by his rant, he only first the first half of the 1* offline missions.

Just what I was about to say. He basically summed up the HR1 experience.

Anyone else having problems getting the video to play? That EQ2 add is more annoying than a jehova's witness.

Funny, but it seems like he never made it to any of the end bit content. In that respect it is a lot like MMORPGs, except the endgame content is actually totally awesome.

The Wii shotgun image is priceless. Hahah.

Didn't tri hard enough, haha. A joke so terrible it's almost good again.

I bought a Monster Hunter game once and I can relate to a lot of what you say, particularly the later part of the review. And why the hell would anyone think it was a good idea on the Wii? Surely a game involving enormous monsters and cinematic fights should be nowhere near a processor that minute...

Funny review, I love the blunderbust part, that made me kinda laugh.

Excellent review of a game that sounds impossibly bad. I might be returning to World of Warcraft, but I'm not doing it for the fetch quests, the resource gathering, the assignments to kill X amount of monster Y for local idiotic & stationary potentate Z or the arbitrary and keyboard-snapping-in-frustration drop rates. And Monster Hunter Tri sounds like a big pile of that held together with shit.

Agreed.
"OMg, yatzee doesn t like it! must be bhad!"

Form your own opinions.

Whos that guy that you alwys use for pictures?

Oh man, I was so excited when I saw that Yahtzee reviewed this game. I saw it a few months before it came out, had mixed feelings about it for a while, and then just realized that this could be one of the worse games ever for the wii. (Given that it competes w/ the conduit for the title)

It's funny watching Yahtzee review Wii games. The last few that he did was surprisingly optimistic, and then he finds a game that can make a gorilla stick his head up his butt just to escape the putridity. I'm still enjoying the good games that came out for the Wii, such as Okami, House of the Dead: Overkill, Twilight Princess and others. The Wii needs to go back to it's quality stamp that it was doing for the 64 so that a lot of these games can just be ignored.

Okay then... well I don't know if I can agree with you or not given that I haven't played the game yet. I've been thinking of getting it but I'd rather wait while it comes down in price before paying for it. I'd give it a rent but this looks like the type of game you can't just rent. Ho well, I laughed at the review and I was amused by it but I think I'll reserve my thoughts on the game until I've played it.
