Yahtzee Wrote a Book

Hmm, I was intigued by this until now, but the writing is really clunky and amateur. There's a certain wit on display, but it doesn't come across particularly well. It has potential (quite a lot in fact), but it reads like a particularly rough first draft rather than a completed manuscript.

Ahh man, that was great. It had me chuckling quite a bit. I'm glad I already had it pre-ordered!

Keep up the great work, Yahtzee. I hope this turns out well for you!

People still read books in this day and age??!!

That wasn't actually all that good. I was kinda expecting more.

And you can order it on amazon and amazon.net.

Wait a second... Can Yahtzze write?

He's a journalist (and no, I don't just mean ZP) so I should hope so! ;o)

Reminds me alot of Terry Pratchett, I reckon it'll be worth a read.

Video game journalist.
Totally different cup of tea ;)

Meh. That wasn't all that great. And not being all that great isn't a great selling point.

Also, totally not funny.

Why is it coming in August? Why can't it come out now? :(

I read the first few "pages" before realizing it wasn't for me, the writing style just doesn't flow - it was really clunky and difficult to read - furthermore, it just wasn't funny - which is odd because I find most of Yahtzee's written work on his site to be hilarious. I'll give the extract another go sometime, if only to confirm I was right, but I won't be getting this - not that I was planning to anyway.

It's a shame because the concept is really interesting, as is some of the content presented.

Did you know you could pre-order it from Amazon.com and Amazon rain forest?

Well you can pre-order it from Amazon.com and Amazonian warrior-women.

He used to write for PC Gamer - how is that kind if journalism (as in, ability to form intelligible sentences) any different from another kind of journalism?

It's like a very nerdy Terry Pratchett!

Well done, Mr. Croshaw! I hope to see more books!

I'm currently reading his first one, Articulate Jim: A Search for Something, and it's good so maybe I'll get this.

Well, I officially can't wait, thank god I make a little bit of pocket change now. I wonder if Hastings will have it

Looks like something that's going onto my "must read" list before the summer ends.

I"ll see how it get's reviewed But the cover reminds me of LFG .

A lot better than I expected. We'll see if my budget allows for it.

NOOOO!!!

No to the spoiler (sample chapter) that is.

Dude, it's chapter two.

Yeah, that was in the original article. Got it. I just don't want to read a subset of the book weeks before I can read the whole thing.

He's entertaining, but not worth paying for, especially if it's full of MMO references I won't get.

I'm still going to pick it up and read it, I mean, it's Yahtzee, c'mon!

However, I, too, share your concern for it being full of missed MMO references as I've played very few (mostly City of Villains/Heroes, but that was some time ago) and when I did I often didn't get all the slang.

As for it being in 1st-person, I love that. One of my favorite novel series', The Dresden Files (by Jim Butcher) is written in 1st-person and they're great. So few stories are written this way so I find I enjoy them all the more (except for Kat Richardson's "Greywalker", which I recently read and loathed.)

Well, you can order it from amazon.com and amazon.co.uk!

Do you mean to tell me that you can preorder Yahtzee's book from amazon.com and amazon.co.uk?

More to the point though I would pay good money for an unabridged audiobook (read by the author). I have very little time to actually read sadly. Though due to the all the travel my job affords me I have tons of time for audiobooks. In the last year Ive listened to all 14 Wheel of Time books, all 4 of the Song of Ice and Fire books, and am currently on the third book of the Mistborn trilogy.

Oh well, it's a handy way of trying before buying.

I, for the record, have decided not to buy. The writing feels too awkward. But I wish the man much success. God knows there's far worse things out there making a mint.

Eh, I can say I've read worse. Maybe I only don't like it so much because I don't have much of a clue as to what's going on.

Would I say I've written better? Probably, but he's published and I'm not so Mr. Croshaw has already one-uped me in the field of writing right there.

Being published doesn't necessarily have anything to do with talent, and prestige should not be handed out because of it. He has an established fan base, and he's writing genre work. Both of which make it far, far easier to get published.

I've also read worse, but that doesn't change the fact that the little snippet we were given is really, really bad.

I don't think it's particularly bad, it's just that I couldn't really get into it and I'm not entirely sure what the story is. Yes I know it's supposed to be life in an MMO or something along the lines of that, but why is Jim undead? Why is he following that girl around (or is it visa versa)? It would probably help if I've read the first chapter, but I still don't find it all that engaging so far.

But what do I know? Maybe it gets a million times better in the next chapter. But so far, I just think it's ok with some ok humor.

This Book needs more Imps and boobs :P

Deofuta:
My only request is that Yahtzee, Please make an audiobook version.

It would rock.

*gasp*

DO WANT.

I liked the sound of it. I'm looking forward to reading the finished article.

To be honest, I think I would wait to see if this book hits libraries at anytime. Then I wouldn't have to pay if it somehow does end up as a disappointment.

From what I've read though, this book does look interesting. Seeing as it's a snippet of chapter two, then of course your not gonna know what's going on, because half of the things (I.E. main character, setting, plot, etcetera, etcetera) have probably already been established.

All in all, it looks like something that I could enjoy reading. Even if I'm not huge on mumorpager's.

SICK0_ZER0:
"This summer, Yahtzee's first novel, Mogworld, hits bookstores everywhere, and we're willing to bet fans of Zero Punctuation will be dying to get their hands on it." Posted by 'Yahtzee Croshaw'. Why the hell are you talking about yourself in a third person narrative?

And yes, he I will be buying your book.

What's wrong with speaking in third person? Josh does it all the time.

OT: I, too, plan on getting this book... Eventually...

i'm probably getting this book sometime.. some place.. that doesn't require me to have a credit card..

Intresting.. will buy, at some point..

I'd like to check it out but I really don't think I can read that fast.

Soo, it's not as bad as I thought. That's all.

I've read a lot of books: Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, but also Harry Poter and Twilight (I wanted to have asolid opinion), but this is not going to change the world.

I don't get all the references, and, to reference the writer, there's a fine line between atmospheric pacing and having bugger all happening. I know, chapter 2, and no big spoils in the preview, but still, the preview is suposed to make me care.

In short, I will get it. Probably from the library though.

Hrrm....I likes it. I likes it a lot. "Terry Pratchett with swears" :)

Pretty funny so far...
I can see the Terry Pratchett influences... nice...
Yeah... definitely going to pick this up when it comes out.

Looks like a great read, just my type of humor too. I love everything you do, Yahtzee...EVERYTHING ;P

OANST:
Holy crap. That was laughably bad.

Screw you, its a satire of mmo's which goes about it by making the story that one of the npc's, Jim, has become self aware as have many others. Anyone who has played an mmo will understad the humor involved. if its not your cup of tea then get the hell out of the tea party.

I liked it, and I already ordered it a month back. Hope it comes soon.
