I Hit It With My Axe: Episode 15: Ambush at the River of Despair

Hmm. I see either a TPK (Total Party Kill) or the surviving PCs get captured. Either way, not good.

Yay for next episode anticipation!

Wow, that all went downhill for the party pretty fast...

With miniature-based roleplay games, when a character dies, what do you do with the miniature? Does it get re-used for a new character or do you start from scratch? (I suppose also, how much does what-you-see-is-what-you-get come into miniatures for characters?)

Goblins may be a push-over, but in numbers are a force to reckon with.

I still want KK's dice.

The party made a lethal mistake, and you're playing it out to the bitter end. Harsh but fair, I respect that.

I don't think I've ever said this about IHIWMA, but I can't wait until the next episode!

That stinks especially being killed with the Maquital sword club and having the heart eaten. Can't wait to see what happens in the next episode.

Man alive...my girlfriend's gonna' be pissed when she sees this.

My old DM used to throw something like this at us around 4th level just to remind everyone who's boss. If the gals are able to recreate the thrill of averting an intentional party kill then the only experience the show WON'T have represented from my own playing is getting thrown out of a game on account of real life violence.

Now, to be fair, I don't think that Zak's really trying to kill the party, but one could make speculate. And to be fair to me, I warned that asshole at the game I was kicked from that if he didn't straighten up I was gonna' have to give him the pimp hand. These things happen. Sometimes they happen four or so times. Just sayin'.

NO WAY!!! That's so lame!

Please do longer episodes!!! I hate being held in suspense!

Oh man, things are not looking good for the girls! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for what happens next!

...Wow. I remember reading that if someone died, that'd be new character time, but daaaaaaamn that was brutal!

I hate forced stealth sections in pen and paper RPGs :p

Zak is pulling a Jer from LRR move killing all the players. Hah.

I bet it all will turn out to be just a dream! ;-)

Zak didn't kill the players.

The players made some choices...and those weren't necessarily the best choices.

I would have liked to see what would happen if they had stuck to their plan.

Next episode now, please!!!

LOL D&D related violence is always golden, I used to have a lot more in my group until i removed the two instigaters. There was one player we used to have that wouldn't stop doing stupid shit (someone seeming to miss the point and trying to 'win' at D&D against the DM) so on occation I'd throw a d20 at him... strangly one week he brought a metal d20 that weighs about 400g/1lb and gave it to me... some people never learn.

And yea watching people experience their first TPK is golden, but they should be much harder to kill next character, and get a caster with some AOE

Ouch... that was tough to watch. I felt sorry for the party.

Did anyone figure out who had her heart ritualistically cut out?

your tribble moves at loud noises? odd, mine only dose that if i smack him... i named him charlie :D

That was actually intense. These situations are the ones that I look forward to, when you choose either the fight or flight and see how it turns out. However, the only dice related D&D I have ever experienced is with IHIWMA (Im learning as I am watching!)

However, I did play quite alot of Warhammer (tabletop figures) 40k (tyranids ftw) and the LOTR series so I can relate to the dice system and situations that D&D players face, just in different settings and contexts.

Great episode!

Dang things is getting intense.

Oh guys, you're right, the words "cluster fuck" have never been awarded more merit than right there.

Nuuuu! Not TPK!

Man, even for a low level party (you're all under 4th level, right?) it sucks losing a character.

Actually, thinking about it, the only character I've lost has been in the Tomb of Horrors... huh...

Noooo!! That was a freaking cliffhanger. Plus, I really want see which girls get out alive.

And was it just me that on the first scene with KK looked at the dog and thought: "Is she holding Yoda?"

So, Justine (the half-Medusa) is dead, right? Does her stone gaze still work? Could they cut off her head Perseus/Kratos-style and use the gaze as a weapon?

Not dead, just unconscious at this point. Here's the rules they are playing with concerning death and what getting to zero hit points means.

Death rules recap:

-If you take more hit points than you have, you're considered to be at 0 h.p. and are unconscious unless you were hurt by something that would obviously kill you instantly (falling boulder, death spell, etc.).

-At 0 h.p. you're unconscious but will pop right back up if healed. However, if you go unhealed for an hour, you must roll under your constitution or lose d6 more hit points. At negative your constitution, you're dead.

-Unconscious characters can usually be killed at will by any old schmuck who has a free round on his hands and has no interest in ransoming, interrogating, prisoner-trading, or eating the PCs fresh.

Nobody's quite dead by the end of the video, but half the party's unconscious. And they are surrounded.[1]

The ladies handled this dire situation much better than a lot of gamers I've played with. For some reason, the concept of running away is so foreign to many players. Not every obstacle presented is a mountain you have to climb.

Zak's dice being on fire didn't help either =P

almost everyone learns this the hard way. :)

My DM liked to point out as the party and I were getting our asses handed to us that "One thing that's consistent amongst players is that they almost never run away." Which is very true, unless a person happens to be solid in playing a cowardly character (haven't seen that often, I've tried it, but the character changed as he got to know his party members).

I feel for whoever's going to die... though I've had to reroll so many times, it's not easy when you actually like the character, though it's that it's become iconic amongst my friends.

On another note: Where did you get that tribble? It's fuckin' adorable, and I want one.

No Way! you can't leave me hanging like that! What am I ment to do for the next seven days ah?. I feel a last stand coming on, its like the Magnificent Seven....except there are five of you.......and with better cleaveage than Yul Brynner......ummm...anyway, really should digress here. This show is making me remember how cool pnp can be. Thinking of geting my old Rifts band back together in a Blues Brothers Style. Hope next week is not the end or I will be writing you guys a very strongly worded letter :)

I foresee:

Next episode: Half the party is unconscious, one dead, they are all captured and taken to the goblin camp to be cooked. From which they promptly escape.

Best episode so far... and clusterfuck is my expression!

Oh dear...

Pig balloon, we hardly knew thee. Also: Never underestimate small monsters in large numbers.

Amen to that!

Look down my browser fucked up... mod delete please tah muchly ^^

Sadly, as a GM, I wish that were the case. Some people never seem to get it and some seem to go about it in new and spectacular ways. Keep in mind, it's no fun for a GM to see this go down either as it puts you in an awkward position. You don't want to fudge the situation or coddle the players, but usually, a TPK, means the GM's work to that point comes to an abrupt end and they are left to see what can be salvaged to reintroduce later and how to get the party and the campaign moving again.

Playing Call of Cthulu it was fish people in some canal in 1920s england that handed me my first pcd its always the little fuckers fighting on their terms (take the tribbles for that matter awesome old school episode I wouldn't have wanted to be a klingon onboard the bird of prey lets just say)

I wish you the best of luck ladies. Zak have no remorse and well played although I wouldn't want to be in your postion at that point.

Awesome episode lovely suspense can't wait to see what happens next.

Not quite dead? Then what was with the head cutting off heart ripping out business at the start? Surely that means that someone died...
