You're missing the point. Yahtzee tears on things. So a "love song" to yahtzee would include tearing on him. It's not a flame war or any other such nonsense.
D'awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Hey, she's improving, but not enough to be safe from getting completely torn to shreds by Yahtzee on a mild day, when he isn't even trying.
awwww thats so cute,it's just the perfect love song for yahtzee.
true. perhaps you're right. I just didn't want to see their videos devolve into conflict with each other.
Just in case you wouldn't read it otherwise. :D OT: The beginning was a bit unnatural, IMO. I just felt like it didn't flow correctly with the rest of the song. I know that you were trying for a natural, slower start, but it seems like something was a bit off, and I just can't put my finger on it... Other than that, though, it was a great song!
I've watched this 3 times and I'm still not sure, but I think Yahtzee just got burned.
For the life of me I've been trying to figure this one out, mostly because I am sorta trying NOT to see it as a whiny feminist attacking the closest man in proximity. I could understand the Idea of a hate filled love song... But the whole thing seemed really bitter and angry though... To be honest, she only acknowledges that Yahtzee is witty, cynical, and smart. The rest of the song she spends bashing him. I thought, "O.K, maybe it is all supposed to be ironic. The whole portion about where she states she would 'rather stab herself in the eye than go out with his mysoginistic mind' has a little IRONIC flash afterwards... It could all just be a joke." But some of the ending just didn't add up to Ironic, funny, or love song related -"Call me a raging feminist, but your on my black list, you really pissed me off, cause you put her down... I won't stand for it now." Well, maybe it is some inside joke between them I thought. I decided to check out their twitters. Mayes "you might not be misogynist but in my eyes you are making sexism/homophobia socially acceptable." O.K... Once again for someone who is trying to WIN someone over this seems EXTREMELY counter productive. Maybe Yahtzee has stated somewhere his feelings towards it. "Also, Rebecca Mayes either loves me or wants me dead. It's a little unclear."-Fullyramblamatic. O.K, so if it's a joke Maye's target audience (Yahtzee since it was "for him") doesn't see the humor in it. Well maybe she said something on HER blog about it. Well, not yet. However I did find the article on Heavy Rain about her armpit hair. http://www.gamepeople.co.uk/audioblog_rebeccamayes_22.htm So if it's not a joke, what is it? First off let me say I am a chauvinist and a troll NORMALLY, however this is not one of those cases. I don't troll escapist cause there is too much ban hammering, and despite being a chauvinist I LOVE Rebecca Mayes work (sure it's gimicky, but I like that... Myspace is already filled with too many idiots who write deep music). Well music wise, I do like it. It's more complex than her previous works and I enjoy the melody throughout. And lyrically I would of been alright with it (a bit whiny but different so it COULD work). My gripe is the build up to this. It seems vindictive, petty, but worse of all like it was done solely for the purpose of attention. Declaring you have a crush, then building huge hype about how much work you put in to it, BEGGING for people to help you write it, then just attacking someone who hasn't stated (or returned) any interest in you is... Sort of pathetic. "Well maybe she's saying she's interested in him but wants him to change." That wouldn't work, since SHE is the one trying to engage him. It's sort of a why like him is you don't like so much about them? If it was her just writing a song about how she is not a fan of Yahtzee, this would just fine and maybe even funny and Ironic. But how does doing THIS song prove anything? It surely doesn't help the case of Women's rights any... If anything wouldn't this re-enforce any prejudices a misogynist has about all women being sad, petty, pathetic attention whores who make up lies? Wouldn't it just be proof that feminists are irrational creature who go out of their way to find things to get upset about and then try and rally a mini army of supporters through deception? Tl;Dr? I Don't know, thought she'd have more integrity
Lots of odd words, they really make a mess out of the song. Still the chorus is pretty good, it's a catchy one. Too bad my music sense has failed me, I can't hear a note in there. Chords for chorus, anyone?
Great vid,good job! | |
I don't normally like the songs you do. But this one was great!
the lyrics were a bit awkward, but then again considering the subject matter, it's obvious that you tried. Congrats sugar ^^
Lyrics: Great. Overall : -Ok
That was awesome, gave me a chuckle, clever lyrics and all that
Oh, that was gooooood. I especially like the ominous request to go for drinks when he visits the UK again. Rebecca, you're kinda scary when you want to be. It's awesome. Yahtzee, you better strike back good, 'cause she tore you a new one.
...... | |
I don't know which is more delicious: the song itself, or the people who are actually trying to delve deeply into it for hidden meanings. Much like I've said multiple times about Yahtzee's schtick: the artist is the artist, and can do whatever the hell he or she wants with their creations. Hum along or change the channel. To expect them to change their style or content because YOU think it would be better is, frankly, the most staggeringly arrogant, self-centered, immature, and solopsistic thing I've ever heard. OT: I thought it was brilliant-- a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle jabs and references. I think I'll probably have to listen to it a couple more times to really get as much as possible out of it... and to me, that's the sign of good work.
Haters gonna hate, Yahtzee is one of, if not the, best. And this chick, who I have never watched one of her videos except for this one that I only clicked on because I thought it was Zero Punctuation but was actually by some chick who just made me glad I had never watched one of her videos and certain that I never will again due to my amazement at its uninteresting, unfunny, and altogether boring and poorly done hate-bash content, is merely jealous of Yahtzee's popularity and wit.
But isn't that the style of her singing that's how she does it, there is no sense in asking her to change that about her songs, and quite a few people seem to like her music so ... yeh
One might argue that threatening to stab a man with a screwdriver is more offensive than making jokes about women.
Izzih ohkae? Izzih ohkae? To hate... The way... The way that you sing. C wat I did thar?
The next Zero Punctuation ought to be interesting. He's not going to rip her to shreds, though. She clearly respects him, though. She says she'd need a "brain the size of Australia" to take him on, and uses his phrasing (pants on head offended) and his video format. And then she wants to stab herself in the eye, rather than go out with his mind, and so him. Her songs are always kind of depressing, and kind of unclear. She also raises an interesting question about Yahtzee's nature: does he rip on all the games he does because he's insecure, and it helps him feel better about himself? I hadn't really thought about that. I don't think so, though. She then asks the same question about herself. Heh. Also, I liked the frame at 1:15, where Yahtzee's holding the guitar with his eyes closed.
*Shrug* Either way, the vibe that I personally get off this video is one of desperation for attention.
She said she'd rather jab her eye out, not stab him.
I shouldn't be surprised at the depths that people will go to diss and insult creative works, but... I just should not have been surprised, and it makes me very sad. I think most of those commenting have just missed the point; they don't watch her other videos, they don't get what started the idea for this video, and they've missed how her fans have been quite excited for this. Were they expecting some fan-boy diatribe to validate their love of Yahtzee? Were they expecting a professional? (read: Artist with a multi-million dollar record deal) A pro song writer, an established singer, with a full expensive sound recording studio, animation team, and fully backed orchestra to produce this song? She made this entirely herself. Wrote, sang, played each instrument herself, recorded herself, edited it all together HERSELF. I think it's amazingly creative, and 99.9% of those who commented could not do such a thing. She's not 'jumping on the Yahtzee bandwagon', she makes videos about video games and video game culture, and as Ben Croshaw has established himself within that culture and within the Escapist community, it is an extension of what she has been doing all along. (And only with a bit of fan service but to her own fans, not to Yahtzee's.) I would love to have Yahtzee comment, because personally I think he would tear into all the fan-boy flamers who have commented in this thread, and not actually insult Rebecca herself. You all provide much more fuel for his hate than she ever could. I miss when her video threads were 200 posts long, and full of comments to boost self-esteem, praise the effort, and encourage creativity. Rebecca, I hope you can shake off the negativity here, and focus on all the good. Your fans are still here, and will be long after all the Yahtzee fanboys go back to where they come from.
Should anyone ever be personally offended by a person who is paid to criticize something that you have no personal stake in? I can understand why game developers would be offended by their labors of love (or maybe just labors) being belittled by a person who seems all but impossible to please. (Actually, it isn't that hard to please him, its just that he makes a big deal about the flaws in everything, even if he actually enjoyed it, because everything has flaws and that's what he is bloody well paid for.) I am entertained even when he bashes games I liked. Now, Rebecca is likewise paid to write and perform songs about things, but I'm not sure that she is actually angry with him or, if she is angry, why she would be specifically.
Ok, I just saw the video so you really managed to put that in the right context for me :P Wow... that was fantastic, Rebecca :D Who could decline going for a drink with someone so fond of sharp screwdrivers.... :P I absolutely loved it!! The hard work definitely paid off for you!
she isn't seriously ripping on him, she's playfully giving him the same treatment he gives games with his style of humor.
So, you don't watch Rebecca's videos. Fine. Go back to not watching her videos and not commenting in any constructive way at all.
Even though I've already commented, I have to say it's interesting, although not at all surprising that there are more comments when Yahtzee is involved.
Great song with a very catchy tune. I enjoyed it. Being a huge fan of ZP helps me love this song even more.
Now *that* was facking oresum! :D Thanks for posting it!
"Handbag full of penis jokes" & "pants-on-head offended." Why, this is the most original love song I've heard in forever. I demand that every radio station play it.
ya know for me, the songs are hit and miss. This one is a definite miss. It just seems like a cry for attention or airing dirty laundry about something personal best kept away from a public forum, overall its just a confusing song. Also for the most part, most people in this thread need to read the definition of misogyny. He's not a misogynist, male chauvinist maybe, but he's made it clear on many of his comments that what he prefers in video game women are more sensible, intelligent ones rather than the big breasted do-dos that you usually get. The new beat is kinda nice change I guess. Its just a very confusing song, don't know if your ragging on him or some fort of failed satire.

I find it odd that the escapist would allow their people to rip on each other on a public site. If they have some personal issues it seems rather childish to involve us. Or if her problem is with his reviews because they're harshly critical and perverse then here's an interesting idea: don't watch them! I know, crazy right? Whatever the reason I must plead to both: don't use us fans in a rage war that has no meaning to us. It's silly, it's wrong, and it's a waste of everyone's time.
