Episode 16: "Now & Then A Player Will Die"

Find out who isn't making it safely back to town.

Watch Video

Well...shit.

That's not how I saw that one going. On a positive note, the dream bit was about as creative as everything else that's happened in the game so far, and it's nice to see that it remained compelling, relevant, and slightly humorous. Well done, and may next Wednesday come with all haste.

Augh! No! Not Satine!

When I called the boy last week to discuss the episode, he thought it was gonna be Justine as a way to kinda write her out of the storyline since she's the guest. (We both don't want you to go, by the way, Justine! <3) I, however, said it was probably gonna be Satine, since she had switched places with the goblin and was in a more dire situation than most of the other girls.

Sad day guys, sad day.

Brilliant stuff.

Loved the dream sequences. "Can I have another dream?"

Wow - Satine's death was pretty graphic. 0_o

It's all true. I did think that, I do want Justine to stick around--if only because she's not half as high or aloof as Sasha was--and Satine was in a more dire situation. I just couldn't picture somebody oozing that much confidence not making it out, especially when the lady with the snake hair only came into the fight with 2 hp. Oh, and I think that I speak for both of us when I say that we believe Frankie. Oh yes, we believe.

Now on a completely unrelated note, hi sweetie! How YOU doin'?

And this is why we don't walk into traps.
It's not very productive.

Damn goblins...this is why there is no nice things to say about them.

Wow, totally did not expect Satine to be the one to die, the way it sounded from the video last week I thought it was going to be Justine, I really don't know why that is, just something my brain told me.

On the other hand the dreams were hilarious, especially Satine's dream about tying up cheese and then not wanting to eat it.

If you're using the skill system, Satine, train your next character in dreaming. That looked an awful lot like you rolled a one on your (second to last) dream.

That was hard to watch... It felt like I was watching someone actually die.

Player death hurts everyone, but it happens.

That was well done, good DM.
Dont let Connie die, cheers.

Awww, that sucks, Satine. Time to roll a new character, I guess :/

And things still don't look too good for the rest of the group, either. Poor Frankie - you'll make friends with the dice yet!

"So Satine... here's the player's handbook"

I cracked myself up laughing when I heard that.

What can I say, I'm a sadistic DM.

One thing left. Revenge.

Poor Satine :c
I didn't expect her to go, I sort of expected Justine to go, merely because she's a guest.

When the sad music kicked in, I was like "Ohnoes D8" I hope Satine rolls something a little different next time; Human Paladin would be SO cool, but probably wouldn't work, what with the group prooobably not classed as lawful good.

Enjoyed the episode =D Keep it up.

Noooooooooooooo!

When the sad music came on it made me want to cry!! Poor Satine! Can we have a bonus episode to chher us all up pretty please?

NOOOOOOO! Not Satine!
so the new plan is...?

Also the Canadian coat of arms does have a unicorn to represent the scotland's symbol which is a unicorn!

I love this series almost as much as Doraleous and Assoc.

Partly for the pretty women, despite their eccentric fashion.

But mostly for the compelling story that Zack lays out and how involved the lovely ladies get into the story, as do I.

It's too bad that Satine's character died, but the great thing about D&D is now she has a chance to roll something different, perhaps better. The character is nothing, the thing we all love is Satine the player, and Satine lives on.

Edit: Oh yeah, and the music is always great as well.

That sucks that Satine died in such a horrible way. I remember when I was playing and after coming to from being scared by a cursed chicken myself and my friends character decided to attack the enemies while they were in a builing. I smashed a window then we shot at them with our crossbows. Then I made the mistake of jumping through the window but I failed my roll and slipped then got killed. Can't wait to see what happens next.

damn. your party actually cares.
when somebody dies in my party, everybody is like; meh, new character time!
and then they find a way to play a more overpowered character

Personally, I was more saddened that Frankie didn't roll a 1.

Satine, if I were you, I'd make a Ranger and choose Goblin as the Racial Enemy. Then bring the pain.

Our Last campaign we had 5 character deaths, 3 of them belong to one person and only 1 wasn't comical.
Nothing like watch a confused Barbarian and Rogue go running down the hall only to have the Barbarian do full power attack and crit him with a 2 handed weapon he did like 100 points. The other same barbarian fails to grapple a wizard, resulting in the death of a Sorcerer who belonged to the rogue. The other time he died he charge when one of those demon retrievers and was promptly dismembered. Barbarian eventually got his reward he attacked an Ice Worm and it exploded killing him.

Just watched it again. It's even more sad the second time around :(

A player character death tailored for the guest player's character would imply pre-planning on the DM's part, which goes against the whole idea old school role-playing. The DM didn't kill Satine's character because he chose to, or because he planned to, or because he derived some sort of enjoyment out of it. Instead, the choices the players made caused a situation where player character death was an unavoidable eventuality.

And that's part of what makes old school gaming so damn cool.

Satine, this ones for you.....(poors some of his nice cup of tea on the floor for a departed homie)........(pauses and realises he's made a mess on the crapet and runs off to find something to clean it up with.) That point were Zak said "then you have no more dreams" was really poignant. Satine I hope you had better class than I would in the situation and rolled a new character in time for next week. If it was me I would have had a proper tantrum. I would have smashed stuff up...like a minature or a cup!....oh yeah!....I'm bad ass!

Oh I knew that; But I figured she was a guest character because she died.
In retrospect they film these like once a week I think, so they wouldn't have known when she joined.

I've heard that wood elf blood is a good skin moisturizer.

Other than that, I'm actually glad there weren't more deaths, after last week's horror, and apparently focusing on the dice in order to get better results doesn't suck just for me, so... yay!

"For fun, what are you doing?"
"Fucking stabbing that asshole!"
:D

Really loving those dreams, by the way. Makes sure the unconscious players aren't just sitting there going bored while watching everyone else fight. I think I'm gonna steal that idea. :3

Too bad Satine's character died, but at least it was a good death.

This is getting better and better :) love the Wood elf Death lol my hat goes off to the DM for that

Keep it up peeps wicked fun

That was a deliciously gory description... reminds me of some of my old Rifts games... granted it was the PC's committing gruesome acts of violence way back then so... yeah...

I second that, keep Justine around :)

Great episode, doing character deaths is never easy but its was handle very well. Both by GM and players.

3 cheers for Satine for being a good sport about her character dying!

Wow, even after having seen the trailer last episode the actual episode wasn't spoiled -- learning that the death scene we heard was actually described in a dream so that the character was aware of her own death made it very tragic (music helped a lot of course). The dreams rocked.

Seconded. The music combined with the description of demise reminded me of Last of the Mohicans, great movie, and great soundtrack.

I agree with Frankie in getting her own dice, it often helps with the rolls, mysteriously.
