Eh, is it a plus that motion controls have buttons? :S

In the UK selling Predator or any other 18-certificate movie to a kid IS a criminal offence.

Society failed to collapse, hell rockstar even request official certification for their games.

However, Free Speech isn't protected in the UK either. It's a different world.

Actually it is under the 1689 Bill of Rights

OK, I'll rephrase then: UK's laws about free speech aren't as permissive as the US's. I don't know all the details, but they seem to have more stringent censorship laws. Anyone want to back me up on this one? Or counter me if you have pretty solid info.

danpascooch:
Did Sony actually cite the "buttons" as a feature over the other two?

Don't get me wrong, I hate motion control, but the POINT of it is to have less buttons.

They did. And rumble as well.
We didn't start making stuff up until the jam came out.

Why shouldn't it be a crime to sell M-rated videogames to minors of 16 years or younger? It's illegal to sell them tobacco or alcohol, the same principle should apply, and an ID should be required. This is not anti-liberty, since liberty only applies to citizens who are considered adults and are capable of making rational decisions regarding their own mind and body.

Not really clear on what coldfrog was saying about freedom of speech, But I've a bigger bone to pick: What is the deal with UK gun laws? That kind of restriction just wouldn't fly...

In America

I just thought I should comment that when I started this video, I was looking at three separate Star Craft 2 ads at the same time. THIS MADNESS MUST STOP! Please stop cramming the release of this game down my throat! I too am looking forward to playing this game once its cost has dropped below retail price, but watching the same cutscene/trailer clips that have nothing to do with the actual gameplay will not encourage me to buy the game any sooner, in fact it will make me less willing to spend my money on the game because that ads will still be there.

Anyway, this week's ENN was pretty good. I'm glad you brought up a Schwarzenegger related movie to illustrate the bias this law is based on. You guys are getting closer and closer to becoming a cheap, videogame based Daily Show knock-off, instead of just a cheap, videogame based fake news show. Congrats.

i get my jam for about $1.75 but the peanut butter is about $2 so the greatness of PB&J cost me well over $4 but who cares PB&J is the best sandwich like food i eat.

In the end, MS will release an add that includes rumble in Kinect. lonely moms will love it!

Ok California submitting their law to the supreme court is kinda old news. The Supreme Court has never ruled on any video game laws those were the minor circuit courts whose only authority are in those circuits.

The Supreme Court is THE highest court in the land, if they were to rule the games law unconstitutional then that would be it, all the other courts would have to obey that ruling even if they thought they got it wrong. It's very rare that the supreme court would face the same issue twice (especially when they get to pick what cases they will hear).

If they were to throw out the law as unconstitutional it would take a constitutional amendment (or another opposite ruling) to reverse it.

I'm new to the Escapist, so I've only seen like 3 episodes of ENN, and this one was the best by far. First one that didn't feel like a SNL skit. Which, as we know, takes something that may be funny for a minute and drags it to the point where you'd consider slitting your wrists if you could just make it stop. Kudos!!

How is not selling sex and violence to little kids WRONG?

We could do with a bit more clarity and responsability in government tho...
(Whoa, didn't mean to get so heavy in a forum for a comedy show.)

er, Jamtroller makes all games taste great!

It isn't wrong...

When people do it freely.

It is, however, VERY wrong when the government tells you what's "appropriate content."

This episode was gold! Keep up the great work guys!

Because the state shouldn't be making access to media laws based on evaluations from private industry. If the USA wants to criminalize selling video games to minors the same way it does alcohol or tobacco, then the government needs to set up a government body to officially censor video games like other countries do. One with a clear and transparent system for submission and appeal.

I can't help but feel a little .. nitpicky.. when I point out that you're using a M60 for the headshot scene, that makes a pump action noise, and a blast commonly used for hollywood high caliber pistols...

Mmmyeah. Carry on.

I think I have that porn pic somewhere on my hard drive actually...

RvLeshrac:

It's even worse than that. It's the government saying you must listen to what unaccountable private industry tells you is appropriate content. It's being a nanny state, but passing the buck on the actual nanny duties.

... now I need to buy jam.

In addition to major First Amendment issues, this law is unnecessary as there is already a system in place to control video game sales to minors: The ESRB, which is an industry self-regulatory body that puts ratings on games and stores agree to follow the rules of those ratings i.e. not selling an M-rated game to someone under 17. This works the EXACT same way as movie ratings which are also not the law but you don't hear anyone complaining about that even though it is easier for a minor to get into an r-rated film than to buy an m-rated game.
Not only is a law restricting game sales unconstitutional, it is wholly unnecessary and a duplication of the system already in place. This is just politicians attacking the perennial "violent video game" target to gain popularity for the midterm elections.

OK this is the musical geek in me flaring up, but to my knowledge Rush never played the 2112 song in its entirety. Now that my elitism has subsided, great episode as always

See, it's incorrect to actually ask what consoles the Jamtroller supports, because IT REQUIRES NO CONSOLES TO FUNCTION! It has total, 100% guaranteed functionality even when not connected to any kind of a console! No other motion sensor can compete with this.
Let's just repeat that: Requires absolutely NO CONSOLE to function. It doesn't even require ELECTRICITY! Not even batteries! And get this: you can get DIFFERENT KINDS of Jamtroller to suit your different needs! Need a small and easy to transport Jamtroller for the busy, on the move gamer of today? No problem, you can find it easy! Or are you a serious gamer who enjoys a big, girthy Jamtroller that really stands out and demands respect? NO PROBLEM! And you have COMPLETE CONTROL over the exact nature of the hardware inside, from the simple and traditional strawberry to the delightful apricot or lime! You can even get mixed hardware for especially exotic versions! And there's many kinds of cases too, from the pragmatic "small bucket" -style to the wonderfully classic "glass and fabric" that reminds you of the good old times.
If you're in the hardcore gamer scene, you can even MOD YOUR JAMTROLLER, both in the hardware department and with all kinds of crazy casemods! I've seen people even CONSTRUCTING THEIR OWN HARDWARE for the Jamtroller! It's that easy!

I, myself, have already purchased the Jamtroller XL (strawberry variant, bucket style), and I'm enjoying it immensely. For even more enjoyment, I use it with the toast application. It offers so many unique qualities that no other motion sensor controller can compete in any way.

Well, about 3 minutes on Youtube let me found a series of three videos from the Test For Echo Tour, Toronto, Molson Amphitheatre on June 30 1997. And actually it seems to have a slightly expanded section of Lifeson playing during the Discovery portion of the song.

Here's the link to part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6zZ3c4p62E

Enjoy!

But does the Jamtroller have built-in batteries? I think not!

I make my own JamTroller(tm) at home.
:P

Sorry, that's more of a Consumerist joke than an Escapist joke, but someone will probably get it.

I've already got the first slogan for the Jam-troll-er:
"Spread the love... and the jam" XD
also, Graham limboing? o_O

If I'm correct, they tend to play just the Overture/Priests of Syrinx section in later years. But I'm sure that they have played it in its entirety during earlier years. Such as...

Either way, being the huge Rush fan that I am, it'll be a blast to play this on Guitar Hero. I just hope that Rock Band will do the same, just so I can try it on Expert Pro.

As for the video, great as always. And yes, that conundrum about selling media was brought up the first time Arnold tried to get that law passed.

One question: Is the jamtroller currently available at all major stores that sell videogame/delicious products?

how low can he go thats what i want 2 know

Mrhappyface 2:
Wait, isn't the Move cheaper if you only buy 1 controller? I'm confused.

Move is cheaper if you're only buying enough to play by yourself, but MS is trying to say that if you buy enough Move or Wii controllers for multiple people to play at the same time, it's going to cost more than Kinect.

Love the bits about Southpeak games. Makes me want to go back and watch Graham tear apart X-Blades on Zero Punctuation... In fact I think I will.

Also the jamtroller comparison chart was great, just barely visible at the top of the screen at the start, "Motion Controls: jamtroller NO others YES"

mmmm jam
(lol fruitier than the Wii, beastly)

um...the controllers I already own are now cost-free and have buttons...and also functionality. sooo I think they are the cheapest and best option already

High Urbanised population, hunting reserved mainly for the landed gentry, little to no gun crime.

Jamtroller.

Absolutely brilliant

Dismembering the news is the best way to do it!

Last time they tried that, it backfired with a huge backlash.

Why was I expecting Paul to cover himself in the jam while hes still wearing the suit, and try to play a game at the same time. I swear to you ENN, Everyone would have had a big laugh with that one.

Oh my god! The JamTroller is the PERFECT peripheral for this game!

Haha, "How low can I go!". Priceless! xD

Microsoft/Sony press announcement tomorrow:
Many gamers have been swayed by the apparent low cost gaming controller alternative "The Jamtroller." While the Jamtroller may be fruitier, more nutritious, and compatible with a multitude of wheat based platforms, the claim that it cost less than a Move/Kinect is simply false. The Jamtroller simply does not have the same re-usability as the Move/Kinect. How many Jamtrollers will need to buy to have a full two player experience in one evening? Maybe as many as three or four, depending on how much your friends like toast. A LAN party could force you to buy so many that you would need to make more room in your pantry to store all the Jamtrollers while waiting for your friends to show up. That comes to a lot of money that would be saved by the infinitely re-usable Move/Kinect.
