Should Facebook Be Worried? Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 NEXT
google - facebook - skynet - the self fulfilling prophecy
Where have you been this past decade. Facebook is just a fad. Social Networking sites live short and brightly, then die and another one takes its place.
I'd go with a google based social network, I think I would anyway, I like all their net stuff.
And we gamers are a step closer to the gamepocalypse, where "social games" become the norm, and we actual gamers are forced into tiny shops and corners and basements, like the tabletop pen and paper crowd was when video games hit the mainstream.
I can see Google making it pretty easily. I mean, Facebook was once really private and you couldn't do anything if you weren't in a college. Then, it eventually became enormous and Myspace went the way of the dodo. Other companies have tried to compete like Bebo and whatever else is out there, but so far nothing's stuck. All it'll take is that one site that people think is trendy to go to and soon everyone else will follow to either A.)Look like part of the cool crowd or B)Avoid being left alone on a deserted wasteland.
I miss MySpace, and I am increasingly unhappy with Facebook. I welcome just about any change to the current status quo. Viva le revolution!
Wait when did this happen? Alexa still lists Google way ahead of facebook in site visits! (More than 25% visitors ahead actually)
"and GameStop Corp. announced its plan to acquire Kongregate, Inc." ...nnnnnnNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Facebook your game is through cos now you have to answer to GOOGLEGAMES! FUCK YEAH!
Was MySpace ever as popular as Faebook is? (I honestly don't know) As long as the new Google site has PROPERLY WORKING CHAT I am on board *grumbles* Don't see why its so hard for Facebook to make a chat system that actually works.
Maybe, maybe not. I don't know. Then again, Myspace didn't have the advantages that Facebook has today, namely Social Gaming. While they have those now, its a tad too late to save the sinking ship.
Uh what? No it isn't.
Aren't they doing really well in Brazil with orkut?
Kongregate?!!!?!?!?! Googled "Google Social Networks" http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/04/google-acquires-slide-maker-of-social-apps/ I believe you ninja'd that article though, but it is still there on Google so. I hope Google dominates this market. I <3 google.
google's trying to take over the world. am i the only one who realizes this? it seems so obvious, yet no one sees it. THE END IS NEIGH!
All of this for a bunch of ad's at the side of the browser that nobody pays atention to? Seriuosly how many of you bought something strictly because of the publicity on social networks. *hears the conspiracy theorist's fiercely typing about marketing brainwash* Nervermind...
About that. If you have enough money and power, wouldn't it be easier to buy an island and set up your own country? And then you could put all your servers sitting there under a coconut tree right by the beach... O wait, i can see at least two problems with that:
I can totally see kids in 2080 after the 4rth world war at a history lesson being baffled by the fact that the google-tatorship was elected by the people.
GO GOOGLE! sick of all this facebook nonsense. every third word i hear nowadays. "oh did you see whats on my facebook" and "oh you have to rate my facebook photos". *massive groan* why cant there be a massive social networking website for all real gamers from everywhere like steam and xfire and escapist etc. all in one place, id back that
Inb4Google gets hit by anti-monopoly lawsuits.
Just how big is this company of yours?! I dread to think what kind of business dealings you have been working on your spare time in between stealing our souls with Tim Curry.
Be interesting to see who 'wins' or at least declares that they win.
Is it my imagination, or am I the only one that knows that Facebook was hacked?
In this case, you're definitely not the only one. Google is trying to take over the world, or at least they put on a damn good impression of trying that. What has happened to their "don't be evil" motto, eh?
No, too bad about all those tanks and bombers and nukes. Google is a commercial company - they don't have weapons, just lots of money. And even in our capitalist society, money hardly means anything when another guy has a gun.
Silly question if they are going to spend the money anyways why isn't google simply buying facebook, like they did with youtube?
It's been open for a long while now. Do you want an invite code or something? And really, the problem with Google Wave was that Google invented the future too early. Imagine someone invented a digital music player (like an iPod) back in the 70s. Nobody would know what to do with it, right? Wait a minute... Somebody DID invent a digital music player back in the 70s. Nobody knew what to do with it, so it was tossed aside as something that wasn't useful. I think the same thing's happened to Wave. It's the future of email and documents, but nobody thinks it's useful right now, so it's not being picked up as a technology. All of those bits and pieces that Wave uses, like collaborative editing and seeing real-time changes, are awesome, but there isn't a "killer app" that has been invented to use them. Wave itself is just a gimmick. Once these tools that have been invented find a use, someone will build something awesome with them and Wave will be like the 70s music player.
Facebook is so underwhelming. I don't know how it got as popular as it is. It does absolutely nothing that would make me consider hanging around. At least, not on its own. The only time I ever spent a decent amount of time on that site was in that dark period in which I was involved with the mob. Er, Mafia Wars. I reckon Google could do a LOT better. Go Google! Try to do womething great. I'll be cheering you on. Just try not to get overambitious.
I hope to god they succeed. Facebook has shown that it can't really be trusted with information, and I hope it dies in a fire. Fuck Zynga though. Fuck them with a shovel.
I feel bad for the employees at Google. One day they're working on refining a search engine. The next day they're working on social networking and cell phones, and pissing off China then obliging China. Now that they've scratched social networking and they're working on social network games. In the meantime they've managed to ruin their image search function. Must be a hectic day around the office.
Internet war! Take your positions men and spam! Spam ads like there is no tomorrow! OT: Facebook is quite entrenched now, well at least here it is. The Facebook logo is quickly becoming standard in advertisements both on billboards and on the radio. "Visit our Facebook page" has become more and more common. I think Facebook has this generation on the hook. But... Google has a lot of money and big company partners behind it. It will be a bloodbath come 2020 with new generations of teenagers looking for social networking. Time to head to your internet bunkers people!
People don't go on Facebook just for the "social gaming", they go on Facebook because it's Facebook. You get excited whenever you see a red +1 up there and click the link with glee to see what X person replied with to your witty comment. Kind of like forums, but global and accessible to everyone. I reallllyyyyy doubt people are gonna go "Hey guys, fuck Facebook. Let's go to this new Google thing because they have cool games!"
How long until google becomes too powerful, too greedy, and has too much information?
Great. First Google ruins its own image search by trying to be Bing and now they want to be Crapbook too... I'm starting to think I should install somebody else's search toolbar.
I get the feeling they are missing the point. Facebook isn't popular because of social gaming, social gaming is popular because of Facebook...
Hm. Google and Social networking. Right. Wave is considered dead and Buzz as far as I can tell isn't making as big of a splash. I've lost interest in the current selection of Facebook "social games", I used to do things like Castle Age and whatnot on Facebook but I eventually lost interest and mostly use FB for what it was originally made for, social stuff and chatting (Unless they start pulling in flash games and the like) As for Chrome, it was great for awhile but it start frustrating me with flash lagging Chrome and my computer to hell, and it's multiple processes causing trouble too. Now I've had enough and I'm back on Opera. xD
I dunno...I have faith in the Almighty Google and plan to vote for their candidates in the 2012 election (thanks, Supreme Court!), but I think they're missing the point; most Facebook users aren't there because they want to play FarmVille, they're there because everyone else is. Addictive social games are just a bonus. Also, I kinda thought Google Wave was already going to be their anti-Facebook.
Great. Google's gonna take over everything. That's right, assholes. We're gonna be killed by the site with the happy, colourful logo.
Google just fails at every thing they try to do to compete with others on a developed market.

"History has shown that... Google dominates them"
Question: Google is now the biggest search engine, yes. Where else are they big? I certainly know it isn't for Chrome; that thing has less of a share than firefox.
