Critical Miss: #39

yeah, it was funny, but actually the main complaints abut cobain were from Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana, and one of the few close friends Cobain actually had

Here's something you won't learn in school.

Ghandi originally wanted a violent revolution, but he couldn't raise support for it.

Outright Villainy:
Last panel cracked me up. At least not getting the reference didn't detract from the funny this time!

I've noticed they've gotten a lot better with including humor that you don't need the references for to laugh, but it helps. I'm starting to like this comic more and more.

Any comic with beautiful severed heads wins in my book.

Maybe it is time for Clankenbeard to crawl back into the Civ series. Ghandi may have just swayed me.

Shoulda been Koizumi.

Seen it the first time and oh god i can't stop laughing after i had a glimpse into the first episode xD. He would get my vote to represent Japan.

For some reason Civilization seems to miss out some of the more notable historic rulers as well.

Adolf, Pol Pot, Stalin - but keeps in all the "nice" dictators.

And then allows them to threaten you openly with nukes.

I'm seeing a minor problem here Sid...

Actually you can select Stalin as your leader for Russia in Beyond the Sword for Civ IV. Pol Pot ruled Cambodia, hardly a notable empire, and Hilter well... I think we can agree that people would get pretty upset if you can play as Hitler an attack a Jewish empire. Although making Germany Jewish is always funny.

A the ahistorical delights of the Civ games. I feel like playing some Civ IV right now.

And those were some nice heads...

one of my favorite games ive had in civ 4, I was germany and had maxed the tech tree, and the only nation that could rival me was the massive Indian empire, they would build massive troops and send them smashing against me and I would nuke them in an attempt to change the borders, think i did this for about 100 turns, absolutly nothing happened beside i probly killed millions of ghandies troops and the warmachine of india kept slaughtering my army. Ghandi is one bad mother fucker.

... Is that George Washington? Can you time travel in civ 5?

In Civ V, the leaders are basically deities, used to represent you and other players. As such, they never die and never age through the course of the game.

OT: Huh, so he's bad now? I remember him being alright, if malicious, in Civ IV.

AI players have 'flavors', they could be war-like or ask you to join a research treaty to increase your spending then they attack you, others might just want to build one little boat and explore the map. Suffice to say, Warlord Gandhi is pretty scary.

Wow, I'm intrigued to buy Civ 5 now.

The_root_of_all_evil:
Adolf, Pol Pot, Stalin - but keeps in all the "nice" dictators.

True, but you have to remember that Firaxis aren't looking for controversy; if Nazi Germany were a playable Civ, all hell would break loose, and people would accuse Civ of being an anti-Semitic, fascist, and Socialistic game. If they were to be incorporated, you can bet the media will hound poor Firaxis.

Besides, if you were to incorporate Hitler, Stalin, or Pol Pot into Germany, Russia or Cambodia, you can bet they won't sell well.

OT: Best comic so far; try sticking to this type of humour- ie, satire. Stop with the pretentious rants on Halo and ramblings about messing with time.

Several.

Even Genghis Khan was more peaceful than Gandhi in Civ IV and I even made peace with Kahn trying to defeat Gandhi... and Gandhi always voted for himself as the supreme religious leader (I think it was the Vatican or something like that?), so yeah, Gandhi's a prick.

And what a prick, I always giggle like a school girl when I beat his sorry ass... very satisfactory...

Would you want people to play as Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot or Josef Vissarionovich'? I don't.

Seriously though, this is kind of similar to that whole Taliban thing in Medal Of Honor, so I get where you're coming from and maybe even agree with you. Maybe. I still don't want to see people playing or interacting with Hitler.

Also, Stalin did appear in Beyond The Sword and might have been pretty popular in there, despite causing the deaths of 30 million Russians during The Purge. Historic justice.

Also, who do they have for Russia now? Catherine The Great? Oh, terror, that should be gone, too.

Damn Ghandi's a bad ass now!

Lol'ed, that's for sure.
Gandhi actually was badass... in a nice and benevolent way. And pulling that off instantly triples his badassery.

But... no Hungary? I mean, we did kinda kick a buttload of arse in the middle ages! (well, until we didn't anymore. Whatever)

Irony's Acolyte:

Actually ...

CosmicCommander:

True, but ...

JourneyThroughHell:

Also, Stalin did appear in Beyond The Sword

Ok, should have stated Civ V, my bad.

But still, this is a game about taking over the world, where Gandhi is perfectly allowed to lob nukes around.

As are the Iroquois, or the Persians. Or Iran as it's now known.

Now...try re-drawing todays story with the modern leader of Persia and see how many fatwas appear. ;)

This is definitely the best Critical Miss yet. Although I feel like I missed a reference in the punchline.

It should be Nobunaga from Samurai warriors, for those who don't know, that version of him is a Sith, he has a long sword that radiates evil and he can force float and throw giant black orbs of death and destruction.
Great comic, as usual, loved the last panel, "several" I can hear that as all menacing in my mind, and it makes me lol.

Honestly Civ 2 had Hitler. He was only playable in the WWII Scenarios, but he was there. (And Stalin, for that matter.)

I thought I read on the internet somewhere (so it must be true) that Gandhi was kind of a perv, he was supposed to have told a friend to send him his (friend's) young wife so he could "correct her sleeping posture"

I'm too lazy to look for links...

Gandhi in "real life" lolll loll lol...wait that's for realz???

anyway, saw my friend playing this game last night, seems addicting?

pretty much... but it's a tired joke.. Civ Fanatics probably had it since Ghandi first got to be a playable leader...

Am I a bad person for thinking this Gandhi is kinda cool?

Those are some beautiful heads.

Funny, I quite remember him being quite hungry for territory in Civ 2, and always able to get nukes so easily over everyone else. Loved holding them over my head in negotiations.

Gandhi be pimpin'

Yeah, this was pretty much my experience with Civilization Revolution.

"Oh hey, it's Gandhi!"

Five minutes later

"Oh God, look out! It's GANDHI!"

Is it me or is Ghandi in the last panel the spitting image of Doctor Robotnik?

This is SO my favorite Critical Miss issue!

Mine too.

I love that looks of his when he goes "Several."

Experimental:
So who's Japan figurehead? Tojo?

Oda motherfucking Nobunaga. Because, you know. He totally won the Sengoku wars.

Sadly, he's not able to fly or create glowing black energy swords, but he does give the Japanese the Bushido ability, which is basically the Law of Conservation of Ninjitsu in Civ form.

How many concubines?
Several...

Gandhi also said, "when the only options are violence and cowardice, I would advise violence."

SO YOU WANT A PIECE OF GHANDI, HUH? YOU THINK GHANDI IS A SISSY BOY?

Experimental:
So who's Japan figurehead? Tojo?

OT: Nice comic, bad ass Ghandi FTW, I now dream of Mother Teresa DLC.

Japan gets Oda Nobunaga

Rauten:
Hahah! I have Gandhi bordering my territory. Which consists of many of his towns, including Delhi.
He waged war, I beat his sorry ass, I offered peace in exchange of some of his gold, he rejected it.
Now he just has a few small towns, and he's still a warmonger. Whoever coded his personality must have copypasted someone else. Like Genghis Khan.

Really? That's weird, the one time I played against him he only had one city and no troops. Of course Montezuma took him over eventually but he never declared war.

Ghandi is a badass. I like it.
