So why do you need to start watching "Glee"?

Incidentally I'd never heard of this movie before today and wow! ...but then I always take Bob's reviews with mountainous piles of salt.

Wait...

There's a movie called Sharktopus? About a monster that's half-shark, half-octopus?

OMG OMG OMG OMG.

Must watch while I'm baked out of my mind.

I was really looking forward to finding a great horror movie for Halloween.
Any suggestions on that front anyone?

That's the best way to do it actually.

OT: That sucks, was kinda hoping that movie might have been good actually. I like the idea behind it atleast: Outer space samples land in Mexico, local area turns into a nightmare zone and creates this area between the US and Mexico filled with strange alien creatures, plants and the local normal plant/animals before the infection. That would have been an awesome movie if they did it right.

when i first saw this review was up, i thought, OMG, they made a sequel to Monster! wait, they executed her. also it was a biography. how do they make a sequel to that? oh i guess its just a district 9 ripoff. saaaaaaddd.

A monster movie is a monster movie, so i might watch it when it comes out on DVD.

SideNote: if only they weren't god damn octo-squid monsters.

It might've been said, but this is why Yahtzee does an annual hype massacre.

Why not when space dragons starts making a new home in new york on they range from 30-60 meters in length....holy shit! That is gold mine material i got to call James Cameron, it'll stop him from making avatar2 and Movie Bob can watch a real monster movie everyone wins!

you SHOULD start watching glee

I saw a review in the school paper that gave it some praises, but it was still a 3/5 so it can't have been very good. Glad to see you go off the deep end on this movie.

Watched it, hated it, god I wish I could claw back the 2 years I lost through watching it. Seriously, it dragged on like Luitenant Dan before he got new legs. And the 'surprise' ending is a ploy that is traditionally more interesting when it's a good surprise, as opposed to 2...for want of a better word 'alienpusses'... doing the dirty in the dark.

I'm all for low budget indie films with statements to make, I mean Ink is still on my top 10 favourite movie list of all time and Paranormal Activity (1, not 2, dear mustapha not 2!) had me all gooey!

You should have been watching Glee anyway. ^_^

My hatred of Glee burns with the intensity of a thousand suns! I guess its just not for me. lol

:)

I second this, Glee is BULLSHIT.

I honestly don't get what all the hype about it is.

I can't talk much since I haven't even seen it passed a few random clips I've seen but even that was intolerable for me. It's a high school musical. Big. Fucking. Deal. We've seen how those turn out already >>

YAY! YOU USED CHARLIE BROWN FOR YOUR HAPPY HALLOWEEN THING!

image

Violet: By the way, whatever happened to the World War I flying ace?
[Charlie Brown visualizes what happened: Snoopy, in flying ace gear, climbs atop his doghouse like a plane]
Charlie Brown: Oh, he's probably getting ready to take off in the Sopwith Camel on the next dawn patrol. His mission is, to find the Red Baron and shoot him down. Here's the World War I flying ace climbing into the cockpit of the Sopwith Camel.

....Reallly, the Syfy movie "Sharktopus" is better than this....that's just sad, I mean really, really, really sad.

Hey I love gle-...

Oh shit your all gonna crucify me aren't you.

I wish I was spoiled about the ending so I wouldn't have to suffer for it - like with the Orphan :)

Glee... meh. I have porn for sexual themes - I rahter have art in my movies.

That's a shame i was looking forward to this. i was looking forward to another district 9. oh well skyline might be ok so there's still some hope.

You had me at Anne Hathaway and Cool-Whip....lets just leave it at that.

It's funny, 'cause that's where he lost me.
Good to know the Escapist is still employing a sexist teenager who posts pictures of women in lingerie whenever he gets the chance.

How is he sexist? There were no comments on her being in the kitchen, or barefoot and preggers or even that she shouldn't vote. All it was was a picture of a beautiful woman who makes her living by being beautiful (btw, I didn't see a gun to her head in that picture, so maybe she chose to pose for it on her own) and MovieBob's hope that she would give him a tasty pie.

Stop seeing sexism where there is none.

I may just see this movie for cheap laughs. It's sad, because I was hoping for a genuinely decent movie to see some time soon.

Trick 'r Treat got me into the Halloween mood. It was really fun in a devilish kind of way. Let the Right One In isn't scary, but it's interesting if you're cool with subtitles. It is hard to find a good scary movie though, most are just going into it to gross people out or are just movies that have monsters in them. Or, you know, they go the whole psychological route that just ends up giving you Rob Zombie's Halloween 2.

On topic, It's easy to summarize the entirety of my experience watching Monsters a few weeks ago. It was mildly interesting at first, then about fifteen minutes in I started struggling with wanting to turn it off and wanting to keep watching just in case something interesting happened. That struggle continued throughout the movie. At the hour mark I was only watching because I didn't want to feel like I'd just wasted the past hour. I literally laughed out loud when they revealed what the monsters looked like. I didn't remember the movie until after I hit play on Escape to the Movies. I don't even remember the ending. I wasted 94 minutes on this movie, and I can guarantee that in an hour, if someone mentioned this movie by name I wouldn't recognize it.

I still put this on my netflix queue for the hell of it, along with sharktopus of course.

Do you remember when MONSTERS were SCARY?

It seems soooooo long ago.

Just watched the trailer for Sharktopus and it looks fantastic, have to see it now for sure. As for Monsters you made it sound so good in the beginning and then I was sad to see how bad you said it was.

I don't know, I'm not sure what's more cinematically insane, Sharktapus or Tommy Wiseau?

...the latter.

As for this movie, I already heard it was more of a "love story" than, well, MONSTERS. So a disappointment is hardly surprising.

Oh bob you shouldn't watch Glee just for that.

I love Glee, and believe me that scene only happened once, and it wasn't even worth it.

Eh never even heard of it before. =/
So can't say i'm all to disappointed.

I believe this was the sold-out, highly anticipated movie at the Fantasy Filmfest in Germany in August. The Director was present and explained among other things, that the whole team was pretty much crushed, when district 9 came out, because they were trying to say the same, but with way less money and not in that league, so midway in shooting, they took up another angle... that is, what i remember. I am not sure, if i am phrazing this right.
I sometimes wondered about stuff like that - how it must feel, that one is working on a thing with all his/her heart and suddenly... somebody way more experienced publishes it. better. than one could ever do it. that must be crushing.
I was surprised a bit by the very end (not the climatic end...).
But while watching the movie, i was ashamed of some lines, the actors got and even more by their motivation. There are movies, where one is not allowed to ask: why. but this had so many situations, where the actions of the characters were simply unbelievably unbelievable.

In the beginning of your review, the horror was growing. I was really scared that i did not get it... but then came the relief... for all its worth though... the support characters were great : D

omg a low budget genre film getting railed?!?! :O

is it strange that i still want to see it just to see your point?

Good to know the Escapist is still employing a sexist teenager who posts pictures of women in lingerie whenever he gets the chance.

While this puts me off, and I invariably disagree with his reviews, he knows a lot more about movies than I do, so I at least listen to him. He usually helps me place a movie, because he reacts to them entirely honestly, and with a great deal of knowledge of context. Very helpful.

Wow. Moviebob built my expectations thirty stories high, crammed it full of TNT and pushed the plunger in just 4 minutes.

All those critics are better off for not having been shown Saw 3D. I can never get a refund for this evening.

Damn it, I'm intrigued by this surprise ending, but I don't want to waste money or time on this film now.

Also, Glee must be condemned to hell! DAVID LEE ROTH DEMANDS IT!!!!

Monshroud:
Well at least you didn't have to review that pile of crap that was "The Human Centipede"

To be honest I haven't even heard of "Monsters" so I never planned on seeing it, now that I know about it, I will make sure not to as well.

He did kind of review it along with Spliced, but all he said was it was "as good as these kinds of things get, and really isn't notable beyond the OH GOD WHAT I AM LOOKING AT! WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!"

I'll join the bandwagon and explain my hate. But why should I when Damon Albarn can?

Offtopic things aside, good review and thank you for enlightening on the Sharktopus.

While I normally agree with moviebob's reviews I'd have to say I disagree on all counts this time. I watched it a few weeks ago on the 360 after never even heard of it and actually enjoyed it. You say it was terrible because the main character's don't act believable, I think this is what made it great. This is an independent monster movie, not Titanic, if you were expecting Ultra Realistic acting from the main characters then you clearly confused this movie with one of Hollywood's multi-million dollar crap shoots where every scene is done with around 200 takes a piece.

I personally found the main characters funny and entertaining to watch, the plot was nothing too special and they were a bit "in your face" about the whole immigration standpoint but it's a frickin' monster movie. There are monsters, there are characters, and there are characters trying their hardest to not be killed by the monsters.

I simply find it strange that you claim to love indi films so much and yet most of the stuff you just reamed this movie on are things that are standard or above average for most indi movies.

Well that's a shame :(

Glee is...not great. Now Rubicon on the other hand...

Hey Bob how about a review of 'Let the Right One In' before the remake is released.
This is how vampire movies should be made.Amazing movie.

To bad about 'Monsters',though it sounds so bad I have to watch it just to see how bad.
