The End of the World (of Warcraft) is Nigh

I wish more MMO's have the balls to pull this off.

Burn everything and make it better? Sounds more like a developers wet dream than anything else. I wish them luck.

Updates come and go.
Hatters gonna hat.

They're bringing millinery in as a new profession? I thought hats would come under tailoring!

Yeah, WOW isn't for everyone, but it does seem to be for 11 million people, and I don't want to play the 'popular=good' card while Bieber,Cowell and Morgan exist, but damn, Blizzard do look after their world and put a fair bit into it.

(OK, after seeing Cataclysm videos, I'm guessing 'Blizzard look after their world' maybe wasn't the ideal phrase! :D )

Damn, pretty substantial ratio of suspended posters on this thread.

Yeah, I went to Auberdine today to pay my final respects. Remember leveling all my Alliance alts there regardless of race because there were so many damn quests there. Auberdine, you will be missed

Hey, with North Korea attacking South Korea, there might be a real Cataclysm tomorrow...

WaaghPowa:

true that, I hate the alliance purely for lore reasons especially Wrynn. Thrall has got to be one of the most reasonable leaders in the story, he's worked so hard to get both factions work together for the common good. When the betrayal of Varimathras and the Forsaken occured at the wrath gate, rather than act rationally, Wrynn declared war on the horde because his friend Fordragon died. He was willing to risk total annihilation at the hands of Arthas just for his own petty revenge.

So the instant the Alliance has a leader which dares to stand up to the Horde, he's a douche? Pah! The Horde have had this coming for a long, long time. It's not just the Wrath Gate incident, where the Horde's idiocy cost the Alliance one of its greatest hero, but plenty of other things as well. Orcs invading Ashenvale and Forsaken invading Hillsbrad for example.

Then when you also consider Varians father, his mentor, his homeland and his people were all killed by Orcs in Warcraft 1-2, and now his best friend has just been killed by the Horde... Yeah, he's got more than enough reason to be distrustful.

Firstly, I <3 Thrall.

Secondly, Wrynn has many, many reasons to hate and not trust the horde. A good deal of them don't share the same outlook as Thrall/Cairne. Not to mention all of the reasons that The Madman gave. The First and Second Wars are more than enough for Wrynn to feel that way.

Thirdly, Bolvar Fordragon isn't dead as much as he is the new Lich King.

Fourthly, players get the omnipresent view of what happens in Warcraft, but the lore figures don't. The alliance and horde aren't exactly on speaking terms, so it wouldn't make sense for Wrynn to believe the same people who killed his father and destroyed his kingdom about the betrayal at the wrathgate. Saurfang the Younger and Fordragon had formed a special combined force that didn't extend beyond northrend.

^^ They're right.

Haha Alliance, we have the biggest asshat for a leader :S

Seriously though, I liked Garrosh in BC during the Nagrand quest chain, but it all went downhill from there. Apparently Blizzard will be releasing a webcomic explaining why Thrall picked Garrosh, but in my opinion, Cairne would have been the best. Or maybe I'm just biased because Tauren are THE BEST RACE EVER!!

until i saw this video i wasn't aware of how much memories i have of those places. and as long as the barrens chat stays alive i am OK with change.

btw why do we horde players get stuck with a racist murderous prick as faction leader?

So we finally got a reason to be evil! :P
no i dont think i am going back, i had my fun with the beta, thats enough for this year.

Nazi Germany did fine with their faction leader

Great video Mr. Funk. This is an emotional day for me tbh. :| Hoping for the best and expecting the worst with Cataclysm.

While I don't like the idea of "resetting" the whole world and bringing back Deathwing for like 3rd time (aren't really following the lore anymore). It just seems like flogging a dead horse. But I'm really curious and might even renew my subscription.... Damn my weak willpower

John Funk:
You're going to see that with Deathwing over the course of this expansion, you're going to see Deathwing play out in a similar way we saw Arthas play out in the quest lines in Northrend. Deathwing has a human form that he can appear in just like any dragon, and also Deathwing is pretty crazy epic on his own."

We're going to see him fail again and again, getting his ass handed to him by every NPC that comes along and being forced to retreat? Or did they mean that he'll keep showing up, yell at his minions for failing to kill us, then leave again so that we can finish them off?

Or maybe they mean that we'll be going through his forces like kleenex before breaking down his front door and setting up a base in his lobby.

On a serious note, Arthas was handled horribly. He wasn't a threat in WoTLK, he was a joke. It didn't even feel like we needed to raid ICC; all of the argent dudes pretty much had him handled.

Only person who could fight Arthas one on one was Tirion Fordring with ashbringer and even then that was on holy ground.

IF you did 5 mans of ICC dungeons you could tell Jaina or Sylvanas (alliance or horde) was easily man handled by Arthas and barely made it out alive.

I'm pretty sure an army of infinite is a threat and argent dudes were having issues. Only reason the scourge didn't destroy azeroth was because of Arthas was fightning against the Lich King for control. Scourge would run rampant and destroy the world unless they were controlled. Reason why Bolvar Fordragon had to take the place of arthas for lich king. (arthas and lich king are two seperate beings merged.)

I was under the impression that this was releasing today.... (but it's actually tomorrow). I for onr am looking forward to it, may be able to level my pally to 60 now (DK kinda getting boring ATM), the main thing I'll have to readjust to though is the park being gone (Now my RP guild has no HQ :( )

I can't wait to Howl with the Worgen. I'm glad I haven't actually made my Death Knight yet. Worgen/Death Knight looks so Demonic it's awesome...and fluffy.

It doesn't really matter if nobody can fight him one-on-one, they were still finding ways to kick his ass. Remember the Wrathgate? Where he got sent skulking back home after by the forsaken? Or how about the whole "Arthas' heart" incident?

If circumstances just keep conspiring to have your villian defeated, it starts to look like your villian is just really bad at what he does.

jp201:

They were camping his lobby.

That's just explaining WHY Arthas' army was a joke. Having it explained doesn't suddenly make his forces more threatening.

I'm excited! I wish I had more to say, but alas, I do not. I'm ready to make a badass worgen!
I'll make a goblin for fun too.

Man hehe, looking back when I started, good and bad memories. I leveled from 10 to 66 as a Ally holy pally in ret gear cause I didn't know what I was doing, such a noob <_< But I learned, became prot, and about a month or abit longer ago, I was 12 best prot pally on my realm.

Trying to find a dungeon at low level when the dungeon finder didn't exist.
My first time fighting undead at Raven Hill. My hatred for all undead flourished from that rotting hill.
The very first raid I ever did, Karazahn, and the many months latter when I finished it's last boss, all pugged. Sure thats BC, but still.

One of my greatest achievements was going through the entire process of getting my Paladin Charger. When I had to go to Diur Maul I forgot the grain and had to hearth back to SW, fly to South Shore, than all the way back to the Ferals. My buddies stayed in the instance though and waited the near 30 minutes. But when I came out of Scholomance with that beautiful steed, I was just...... joy. I can't explain the feeling but you know.

I've had many adventures since than, made many friends and countless enemies (Real and npc) Had highs and extreme lows. Went 5 months without WoW when my comp died. Was given the title by my original raiding guild, in WoTLK "Demolisher of Armies" because I was so tough I didn't die when I should have, when I took to many mobs.

It's coming up my 3rd year (Technically) of WoW, and I hope for many more fond memories and adventures in the new shattered world.

Levitas1234:
I'll probably restart my subscription for cata

Sigh... I'll be restarting too...

If you look at Varian's history you kind see why he hates orcs (they killed his dad, burned down his city, enslaved him as a gladiator for a while) so I can kind see why he's the way he is but garrosh is just a dick for the sake of being a dick, I mean all that happened to piss him off was the whole fiasco at the treaty discussions, which even than isn't enough to hold a grudge over IMO.

I am so freakin' excited for this--after playing for 5+years in Azeroth, the "new" world will be a fun and exciting change!

That being said, I'm kinda pissed that I'll be gone for the holiday with my GF until Sunday, so I'll, essentially, miss a week of exploring. =/

Silver lining, tho, we'll still have access to WoW, and will likely check it out tonight before hunkering down for a week's worth of food and football. :D

(I'm really curious about how the in-game memorials survived--if they did. Icecrown's won't be affected, but the ones in Barrens and Hillsbrad might be. I hope not, tho... :( )

3 of my friends play this. I guess instead of 4v4s in Starcraft 2 I'll have to live with the occasional 2v2.

Lots of the submerged cities in the vid look like they could be fixed in 3 real time days. Sandbags, pump water out, done. Can you alter or interact with your game enviroment in that game?

Even thought 4 years of WoW is 2/3 of some people, this still hits me REAL hard in the nostalgia heart

Crap I was doing the event last night, and finished in the Park in Stormwind and logged off there.

No, if you played the Alliance Wrathgate side, you would know that the reason Wyrnn doesn't like the Horde is because they locked him up like an animal and made him fight in their arenas for the amusement of the Horde and still wants his revenge.

Wow, I think I'm going to take a world trip through each area after the patch is loaded and whatnot, just to see the whole coup de gras.

Blizzard is going to release a free comic online saying why Thrall picked Garrosh. But I agree, it should have been Cairne. Infact, it nearly was, you know, until

It is all explained in the book The Shattering, which in my option, is a great book. $26 is a bit steep in my mind for a book, but it is still a good read.

tombman888:
You see, this is a real example of shit hitting the fan. When Deathwing wants everything destroyed, he destroys everything with his own two hands (or claws... or legs... whatever) Unlike Arthas who just sends out a bunch of minions to do his work and fail at it. Anywho, I'll be picking this back up during Christmas time. Rolling me a Worgen druid =D

That's because Arthas= Teen Vader...

Gnome Priest! Huzzah:)

I may have an obsession with gnomes

Dude, we got Wrynn, he's not that much better... Besides, at least you have Sylvanas <3

Holy shit.
Not having ever played WOW. I get the feeling that i'm mising out on big gaming history here.

I hate the release date. Just frigging hate it, can't really play it until my uni works done. well shit.

Man, I can't wait to head home from work today(11/23)!

The Shattering happened today, and Trolls can be druids and warlocks finally - not to mention I haven't leveled a Horde character since Vanilla, mmmmm, it's going to be a fun expansion to say the least.

What if you don't have cataclysm? will the world stay normal to them?

rokkolpo:

The patch is for everyone who plays WoW. The Cataclysm expansion only unlocks the new races and content above level 80.
