Thanks, Funk. You've cemented this as a purchase for me over Gran Turismo 5. It was getting close after Kevin Butler's GT5 ad. One question, I've heard that you can explore Seacrest County, but what is there to do while exploring?
'Vehicle snuff porn' had me rolling, I like it. This surprised me actually, I lost faith in Need For Speed after the fantastic Underground 2, but this actually looks fun.
"Racing fans shouldn't miss Need For Speed: Most Wanted" Really? Well im glad to know that but what about Hot pursuit?
I think the game's lack of depth is just what non-racing, but curious, fans need to get into the genre. I think the arcade elements are essential for people like me who really just don't care that much about cars. That being said, racing is the only "sport" game I like (other than maybe UFC, but I think those games are rubbish compared to other, more solid fighting games). I might consider this for a rental definitely, a great party game to have when company comes over anyway.
Nothing. You saw nothing. ;)
I'd play as a cop all the way :)
It can't be better than the 1990something Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (or High Stakes). Seriously, that game was fucking awesome. Best NFS ever ;P
Am I the only 1 that thinks its more burnout with cops that Need for Speed?(I know its made by Criterion games who made Burnout)
If i understand you wright, than i agree, NFS hot pursuit(1998 i think) and High Stakes(Road Challenge)(1999) are 1 of the best NFS Ive played. Playing with friends on spit screen against bot police, helping or screwing each other, getting custom cars where some of the funnest moments of the game :). Sad of the vehicle limit is only 50 :/
I'd love to say the game is pure awesome but after almost owning a PC copy for a week, I still can't get it stable. Hopefully a patch will be out soon as numerous folks have the same problem.......damned EA.
Ah sorry I did type the wrong name there, I meant Road Challenge :) Either way, yes it was awesome. Playing as the police in that game was such good fun ^_^
No you got the wright name, the Road challenge is European, while High Stakes was North American.(I think)
No, you got it wright, High stakes is North American and Road challenge is European.(The games the same, names different :D)
I must say I really love the game, but what I found disappointing in the game was the free driving mode. You can't drive to events, get chased by the cops, or complete other tasks while in free driving mode. It's basically just driving for the sake of driving and enjoying the scenery, but it's not as interesting as say Most Wanted's free driving mode. One thing I also loved about Most Wanted was that the cop chase continued out in the open streets even after you crossed the finish line, you could basically drive around the whole city and countryside having an epic cop chase lasting as long as you could hold out. But Hot Pursuit is still worth the buy, I'm currently waiting for Amazon to send me my copy (that I preordered), so I've had to pirate it in the meanwhile :\
I know the two other Hot Pursuits (NFS 3 HP for PSX and NFS HP2 for PC) and I was afraid that it may bring shame on the name. But I tested it and it was pretty much fun. So it's all OK. Everyone that loved the game as much as me, will drown in nostalgia, when hearing that super-relaxing song, from the vehicle-information menu...
These aren't the errors you're looking for. Move along.
This seems like everything I loved about play Hot Pursuit years ago. I'll wait for the price to go down since I'm not really a racing type of guy, but this looks really good.
Vehicle Snuff Porn? John Funk, you really are over-thinking this.
For PC players, I found this game to be incredibly unoptimized. You've been warned.
That, and no LAN support. Again.
They don't pander to your kind anymore
I'm not angry in the slightest. I just wanted to warn potential PC buyers of the games problems so they can make an informed purchase should they decide to do so. What does anger me though is the 4chanization that is happening to the escapist. Two years ago flame baiting by posting antagonizing statements like "U MAD SON?!" to people who were clearly and calmly behaving as per the board rules would have been banned outright, now i see it happening every day. Can we please stop with the memes and trolling? I beg you all, leave that for the chans.
I remember another Need for Speed Hot pursuit. It was for the ps1, and it was amazing.
I would love a remake like that.
You are insane. The PC version lets you play as police, where the PSX version didn't. The PC version has a number of additional cars that the PSX version didn't have. The PC version runs at much higher resolutions. IMO, it's the only version worth having. P.S. Thanks
Plus it was released back in the day when I had a steering wheel for my PC! Those were the times :D
Damn, I remember playing one of these on my dad's friend's computer way back when. I wasn't too bad. :P Also, if you REALLY think about it, it's almost vehicle vore (or however you spell it, I'm not into it, so I don't know).
just had to put this up...
Yeah I have the European version, I just typed the wrong name is all :)
If you think that his or anyone elses behavior is ban worthy mayhaps one needs to press the report button a bit more?
Got it the day it came out :) It is fantastic, nothing beats rolling down the road listening to your own music in the game :)
So...the Need for Speed franchise can just make a "Cops and Racers" game, call it Hot Pursuit something, add some features and nicer graphics and more and modern cars...and call it a day? And everyones praising them for it? When I heard "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit" is released soon, my first thought was "AGAIN?"
So it's basically Most Wanted in an HD skin?
Is it just me or does it look like a bit of a burnout rip off?
Coming from the burnout devs, I think that's a little bit expected. OT: I'm actually quite intrigued about this game. I have found memories of the ps1 NFS games, and burnout for that matter, so it sounds pretty awesome...
I have been generally unimpressed by all Need For Speed Games thus far, although this Hot Pursuit may be the first one I get. However, I refuse to call it Need For Speed; I'll just call it Burnout: Hot Pursuit.
