Looking forward to the tie-breaker Steve. Give 'em hell!

Awesome... Really happy to see them listen to the community and provide customization for our generals, not to mention development.

Wow, RPG elements really are getting everywhere these days. Needless to say really looking forwards to this, Shogun was my first real dip in to PC gaming, used to play that shit for days :) I hope they have awesome video clips again, I loved watching my geisha wipe out entire dynasty's unopposed :D

Good to hear that they're finally including a more robust multiplayer in this series. I just hope they don't go too nuts with the RPG elements. So far, they have served to enhance the game, but I worry that they might bog this one down. Still looking forward to it, though, I may even do something completely unprecedented and buy it the day it comes out. Can't wait!

This sounds like EXACTLY what the doctor ordered.
The "upgrade buildings" sounds a little video-gamish to me, but...
A persistent campaign map? I've been crying for that for YEARS.

Argh... I want this so bad..

Here's to hoping the ai can actually handle complex tasks.... Played medieval 2 and well the sieges are muck to be fair, the computer more often than not forgets its attacking walls :(

Yes, yes oh god yes, this is going to be so epically awesome!

I can't wait until shogun2 comes out, i won't be able to sleep for days.

I hear allot of stuff I heard when Empire was announced, most of that stuff got cut due to lack of time. My hopes aren't up yet especially because of how CA and SEGA have been treating the TW franchise.

Almost seems like they are doing 1 game but releasing a part of it every year to fund the real project. We had Empire in 2009, the alpha build, Napoleon in 2010, the beta build and Shogun 2 in 2011, which I hope is the Gold version.

I can't say that I'm not looking forward to it but I remain critical of it. Especially since the Multiplayer boiled down to "Use quicklime and sharpshooters" and Multiplayer seems to be their main focus whilst the Battle AI and Unit Pathfinding remains severely lacking.

I pretty much gave up and started using quicklime and sharpshooters myself after running into about 30 people using the exact same tactic playing the exact same map.

The Campaign Coop was fun, for a while. Having the AI fight against 2 humans was pretty much a lost battle when I held the AI down and had it scream Uncle in less than 50 turns. So eventually that ended up becoming Quicklime and Sharpshooter combat between 2 major human powers to.

Seeing as Canons are not a part of Japanese warfare I guess we got a more balanced playing ground to start off. Now it's all hoping they can actually have the units walk where you want them to and not have em go off into the void.

March is going to make me really poor. First Dragon Age 2, now this. Still, march can't come a day too soon!

Yeah I was incredibly disappointed with Empire TW, I was hesitant to pay even $30 knowing the amount of bugs it has.

I have to agree with that, but I think the idea is to force action instead of constant maneuvering.

The retainers sound like something out of 7th legion. A lot of the customization options sound very superficial, I rarely zoomed right in on troops when I played other TWs. I'll remain skeptical until I get to play the game, I have been let down by TWs of late.

It's all about the AI.

Sounds amazing, surprised to hear about the RPG elements, but im pumped to see how they will effect the game. The castle thing sounds annoying, because while defenses are fun they often interrupt my grand plans for conquest.

As long as the AI is good this time round I'm happy. It's not fun sending one ballista unit against a full army and winning.

Jizz. In. My Pants. We've been waiting for mulitplayer campaign for soooooooo long and now.... its finally.... 3 months away.... DAMN

Super cereally stoked for this instalment. I felt the last two were pretty lacking due to the power that ranged units provide, so taking it back to feudal Japan should be great. Unsure about the idea of cards to essentially give buffs etc, hope there is an option to turn that off, as I always liked the raw tactics that had to be used with no "well you got lucky with X" element to it.

Hell yeah, this sounds awesome! Can't wait to get it, especially since it is such an underused setting.

Siege assaults that aren't the same every damn time? Yes, please.

Well I;m bouncing up and down waiting for this game!

I was so psyched for this game i went out and bought empire and napoleon to get into the series.
But then steam died on me and hasn't worked properly since, and now I'm really sad. Although i suspect its my crappy Internets fault and not actually steam's.

Can. Not. Wait.

I'm practically giddy.

seriously mate do yourself a favour and buy Rome total war pack with barabarians and alexander expansions. they are poor graphics but brilliant games, you will not regret it.

Totally agreed. And if the graphics hurt you too much, I suggest downloading the Roma Surrectum mod. Really brings the graphics up to scratch, as well as adding a tonne of gameplay elements.

As for Shogun 2, sounds like it's adopting elements from King Arthur The Roleplaying Wargame (the buff points on the map sound awfully similar) and Dawn of War II, which is no bad thing in my eyes. I'm more a singleplayer person, but with the focus on multiplayer I might give it a shot.

Dont know why everyone rated those games higher than Med2. Quite a few things about Rome game bothered me, like most spearmen had pikes that could hold of an entire army if you attacked it from the front, squalor in towns also was incredibly hard to get rid of, and archers could only shoot about 10 ft.

3.5 more months! i can wait...yeah i can wai... DAMMIT IT NEEDS TO COME OUT NOW!! ME WANT!! >.<

One of the few bigger budget Franchises left which deserve to be labeled "strategy" today (and the only one which incorporates a real time engine without being a stone/scissors/paper clickfest). I really hope they don't watered it down to much as some of the new features suggest. Empire was already a step in the wrong direction. Nevertheless Medieval and Rome especially with the corresponding mods like EB are still something i come back several times a year to enjoy the grand campaign.

This look to badass, must try it.

Sounds good, but I want to keep a very tight hold on my excitement for a Total War game. Since Shogun, all of them have sounded significantly better on paper than they have in practice.

Sounds good but the whole RPG armour and cards thing sounds like a bad idea.

High ranking player with full set giving him amazing buffs vs new player with nothing

And opponents always playing the cards that dampen your main troop type. So everyone will just pick a balanced force so as not to be too weakened in their main area.

The title thing sounds great though, especially the dishonourable general part.

Looking forward to it but not really for the multiplayer

i would have rated med 2 higher, but in rome 2 it was possible to win the game (and see the whole map) with almost any faction, and i approached it historically, so your points didn't bother me becuase

a) pikes could hold off an entire army if they were daft enough to attack frontally
b) towns were dirty, and the further from the centre of your empire you got the dirtier and less obiedient they got and
c) archers could only shoot about 50 - 150 metres. you are thinking of the stereotypical anglo saxon archer, who could shoot out to 400 metres.

Some of these new features have me a bit worried, I play total war for a somewhat realistic RTS, these capturable buildings and retainers sound like a blatant "game" feature.

On the other hand the more complex siege battles intrigue me and I love the Feudal Japanese setting.

I'll reserve judgment untill I play it but it feels like they may be trying to make it too different from the preveous games for my liking,
Don't get me wrong it sounds like a good game but will it still be recognisably Total War?

Trap cards? The defensive scenario you described I like a lot. So happy a game takes a approach beyond "Mass ranged a choke, mass melee behind choke, wait for victory." So sick games making variations of this and making only two strategies for both attack and defense because the only two tactics to pick from are so damn effective.

Awwwwww but i want it noooowww!!!!!!

I honestly don't know how excited I am about this. I find myself getting less and less interested in the TW franchise these days. Empire was a horrible disappointment to me, Napoleon I didn't even care enough about to buy and this . . . well, I'm just not that interested in Japan.

However, from what's been described here it sounds a whole lot more "gamey" than previous installments. Until recently I would have been against this, but one of the reasons I've gone off TW is because it occupies a sort of uncomfortable middle ground between gamey game and simulation game. Maybe moving it in a more gamey direction will actually make it better for me. Not going to be able to tell without playing it. I'm probably going to end up buying this, despite my cynicism. But I will do so very reluctantly.

Still no Total War: Romance of the Three Kingdoms, though. ;~;
