Question of the Day, December 25, 2010

Earlier this week, we learned about a new downloadable D&D game that promised four playable classes - presumably the core Fighter, Rogue, Wizard and Cleric. What is your favorite role to play in a party, whether in an online game or around a table rolling dice?

Whichever one has offensive magic.

I love mages.

I don't have a favourite I play whatever is needed. Although first I like to try either tank or offensive Elemental Mage or maybe some sort of summoner or Necromancer of some description..

Mages get all the girls, especially if your a Sorcerer with a starting charisma of 18...

I like to be the Heavy Weapons guy, at the back of the team on top of a large hill with a minigun clearing the way.

So support, which also is why I am always an Elementalist in Guild Wars

Interesting numbers, shows why there is a tank shortage in WoW

Who doesn't like killing things??
But it kinda depends on the party itself. It's nice being crucial to success.

umm, is it just me or is this poll lacking a lot of options, support is such a broad category that it covers anyone from a (medieval/fantasy setting):assassin, archer, mage, healer (it doesn't deserve a category if the others don't), (modern/futuristic setting): Sniper, Medic and Heavy Weapons specialist.

Support shouldn't be bunndeled together if healer gets its own spot, a sniper is just as important as a Medic, as a archer is as important as a healer.

None of the above. I would be the sniper. I'd be the one covering EVERYONE's ass from a safe distance away.

One shot, one kill.

Assassin, archer, mage, sniper, heavy weapons = Damage dealer. Pretty straight forward what you're going to be doing.

Medic...well, self explanatory.

Anyways...for me?
Elemental Shaman. I'm gonna taze ya, bro.

Turning a terrible class/spec into one of the top DPS-ers in an end-tier raid? Definitely priceless to see the way the others react. :3

But yeah, I'm a DPS-er. Magic preferably...it's just what I do; I'm too ADD-addled to handle Tanking or Healing, and Support? ...nah, not for me.

Tanks are always the most fun.

I typically enjoy a meatshield without the shield. Two handed pure pain. I've never been able to enjoy a caster class in DnD. :(.

I play whatever is needed usually. And then just try to have fun coming up with unexpected ways to help/mess with the story.

I always play a Bard in DnD !

I love having the responsibilties of being the tank. Being a huge hulking unstoppable force is just too much fun.

Tank+Support= paladin theres my logic

I like sitting in the back, cracking jokes. That is my sole purpose.

When playing D&D, i never play a sorc. or a wizard. If i play a spellcaster, then only a bard.
Or a ranged ranger.
But i rarely play a tank.
So yeah, i guess I'm supportive.

I hang back and kill whatever I want.

Sort of a lazy support and an unreliable DPS.

I'm the guy who wades in with a massive sword and smacks everything to death with scant regard for my own bodily wellbeing... I guess that's tank.

Well, I tried playing a Bard, but it died D:
So now I'm a samurai, and loving it.
SO yeah, dmg or support is good for me.

I'm totally the healer. That's just naturally where I go. I'm guilty of being too worried of my buddies in L4D. I always run straight up to the tanks and blast them in the face to keep them off my buds. And in DnD I would be the healer a lot more if there was more healers without religious connotations.

I tend to fall under the role of "Sociopathic Berserker." I'll wade in doing the most damage I can with as much armor as I can carry and make everything explode in a satisfying spray of gibs. Rogue style characters are far too squishy and straight tanks aren't nearly as rape as I'd like so I'm sort of inbetween.

I'll say damage. I'm usually an archer, so I guess it counts.

Damage! Because killing your enemies with a few words plus a shitload of fireballs always works.

I like to have a bunch of meatshields stand between me and the enemy. Why should I have a hard time when I could go around playing my goddamn mandolin. And it's a very persuasive MANdolin.

In Rpgs I usually take all the attention and damage as tank to protect the others while also getting constant heals.

Whoo, Healer! We're number 4! We're number 4!
It's nice to be needed, and taking a role people don't usually play XD

support, i like to help bring down enemies. i dont have to worry about protecting others, or taking care of them, i just worry about finishing off monsters as fast as possible

But Elementalists are all about damage. In PvE, at least. Support would be a Paragon's or Ritualist's job.... But whatever.

Tank. I'm a natural meat shield.

Damage, it's usually the manliest way I can help out - often without carrying too much responsibility if things go awry.

I'm an all-around sort of guy, so I like to supply combat support and helping allies, so support.

I'm a healer and proud of it. Sitting back and restoring friends makes me feel warm and fuzzy, plus there's usually the bonus of healing magic being damaging to the undead. I still love being a priest in Ragnarok Online for the sole reason that I could point at zombies and make them explode.

i go what ever they need but i like to tank and fight most people in my group cant do both yet so i fill that role for now
