Star Wars: The Old Republic Trooper Class Trailer

The Trooper aims to bring the fight to the foes of the Republic.

Looks awesome! I am praying that this game comes to the Mac!

Really liking the look of this game more and more. Also cool to her FemShep doing the trailer

I've played a ton of MMOs.(Including some that never made it public) Every time I watch something for TOR, it makes me a little uneasy. I want it to succeed, but have so many questions. The only way I know if it going to be good or not is to actually play it. I'm hoping they have a trial, I've been burnt so many times in the recent past of paying for the MMO, then it being actually horrible.

I love Jen Hale so very much. o.O I guess I'll be rolling a Trooper alt.

Wow, the framerate on that Venetica commercial was just awful.

Jennifer Hale ftw!

Looks nice, but like Baldr said there are a lot of questions yet unanswered.
I guess only time will tell.

Umm... I really don't think that TOR will get very far, tbh. It uses all the things that made Star Wars Galaxies crappy.

*sigh*....never run at someone with a lightsaber guns blazing. It has never worked. Ever.

Hmmm.....lightsabers?......or Jennifer Hale Bad-ass guns? It seems like a difficult choice.
But it isn't. Jennifer Hale, is awesome you see. So i pick her.

No, it's using all the things that made KotOR awesome.

The only KOTOR I see in there is combat animations. Besides, using a single player game's features in an MMO is a really bad idea, for many reasons that I can't be assed to go into right now.
I will mention two things though. The story and progression of the NPC:s were great in KOTOR, but having a story driven MMO 'campaign' sounds like having a unicorn drive a sports car. Sure looks awesome, but how does it perform in every day situations?
The other thing is 'iconic classes'. I must wonder if they have learned nothing from the fall of Star Wars Galaxies. From having several dozens of classes to choose from (none of them Jedi, thank god) they stripped it down to like 8. Shortly after that and the general carebearisation the players stopped playing.

Oh! One last thing. Bioware is not nearly as good as they used to be.

Sorry, still haven't convinced me that it's not far cooler to be a Jedi

I am going to use my psychic powers and look into the future:

Fucking EVERYONE is going to be a jedi/sith because they're the only ones that ever matter in star wars media.

Therefore, SWTOR is going to have to make the trooper/agent classes stupidly overpowered in order to force the players to diversify.

Eight classes, each class has 2 specialisations, each story has light and dark paths, you have a team of companions and whole stories. Non-story MMO's are literally you doing nothing, ever except filling time. MMO's are the laziest form of game and, again, BioWare are attempting to ennoble a lesser idea and people immediately retard out about how things that weren't good ten years ago are somehow better than effort to innovate now.

Surveys conducted say that Bounty hunter and smuggler top the lists with about 15% (each) of people saying that is their first pick, followed by Agent and Jedi Knight, Sith inquisitor and Jedi Consular, Sith warrior and trooper something like 7-8%.

Still not seeing why this is looking so exciting to people...

Ah, well.

The Trooper; because a gun stock or a grenade in the face hurts just as much as a lightsaber.

Cool vid, but still doesn't change my choice from Sigh Inquisitor, and Bounty Hunter as alt. And it sure as hell doesn't make the Trooper look as awesome as in the previously released cinematic trailer.

Ah, well.

- It's Star Wars.
- It's promising a fuck ton of story content.
- It's Star Wars.
- It's promising to bring the RPG back in MMORPG.
- It's made by BioWare.
- It's Star Wars.
- It looks like it's going to bring some fun variations on normal MMORPG combat.
- Cinematics like this, despite them not having anything to do with the gameplay:

- Did I mention it's Star Wars?

Seriously? I'm suprised. Where's that survey at?

Grenading the Sith in mid-air was sweet. Very sweet. I am pleased.

One at darthhater.com (basically set up to follow TOR) and one 6-8 weeks ago at SWtor.com.

Ah, well.

with you on that one.

with every ingame trailer they show the less interested i become. its really looking more and more like your generic skill based MMORPG with a star wars license >.<

Ranchcroutons:
*sigh*....never run at someone with a lightsaber guns blazing. It has never worked. Ever.

Actually, I think this has only not worked because in the movies the only people we've seen who were non-force users who fought Jedi with any kind of skill were the Fetts. It's been mentioned, even by Qui-Gon in the prequels, that Jedi are not invincible and they do get taken down by relatively ordinary stuff.

The grenade launcher there sort of made a point I've mentioned before, there are other things you can use besides a blaster. The only thing here being is that it looked like a pretty slow grenade launcher. Give troops a bunch of semi or fully automatic grenade launchers like some of the ones we have IRL (or updated for the tech level) and it would probably change the equasion quite a bit.

I believe the pilot guy you rescue (drawing a blank on the name at the moment) In KoTR2 was an assasin who specialized in killing Jedi and force users and apparently did it quite a bit before you rescued him. He listed off methods people have been going on about since the 1980s at least like gas and poison I believe. I mean even those rebreather things aren't going to help if your using say nerve gas.

Me, personally, I'm not sure what I'll play yet, but I tend to like the good guys, and tend to like playing mages and such. Chances are I'll wind up a Counsler even if the abillities don't match my playstyle. That said if they actually expand on this and let Troopers gun down Sith with relatively normal attacks by carrying weapons actually adequete to the job, that might be cool. Just imagine carrying a chemical sprayer like from VoR (or Bioshock for a more recent example).

Well that, or just letting me play a character who can put on the equivilent to the "Zero-G Storm Trooper Armor". Those are perfect for tearing up Jedi. West End Games really knew how to do "Munchkin Star Wars" pretty well at times. :P

SW:ToR will not be available for Mac computers upon release. I can't find the original official announcement, but here's a Dev confirming this in a topic about SW:ToR for Mac's.

I think this is going to be a pretty cool game, I doubt I'll find out though, I barely find enough time to game as it is, much less to play an MMO again

I think this might be a more accurate survey, although I think that it is testament to how good all the classes are looking that the results are spread a reasonable amount.

I'm not even going to bother commenting on that aside from that maybe Raikov works for blizzard.

Well then, you two fanboys will get exactly what you want. Too bad you do not have very high demands, or we would perhaps not be burdened with releases like Dragon Age 2 and the like.

And carrylightwithin, you should perhaps ask if Bioware works for Blizzard instead, considering that Bioware seem to walk in Blizzards footsteps.

Wait a fucking sec...

I am seeing too much recycling relating to mass effect 1&2...

The defiler(one with jetpack) has Shepard's helmet (1st youtube video, 0:56)
The female trooper... doesn't she seem a bit like Jack but fully clothed?
Device one of them has on their wrist... looks like an omni-tool
The Commander of the troopers (2nd youtube video) seems and looks a bit like Captain Anderson.

Personally I have a rule of no MMO's as I will never get any sleep ever again, so I won't be getting this.

I still think it will be a game known for the thrilling and deep story... and relatively shit game play xD
Meh. Lightsabers sell.

They've referenced their own stuff before and they aren't the only devs who do.

I just write guys like that off because they use the indie argument. "They were so awesome before they sold out! Now that they've sold out everything they make is fuelled by The Man!"

Mmm, tricky balance portraying non-force users as badass without diminishing the power of the force...

Bioware and Star Wars, in my experience has never gone wrong as a pairing. plus I really wanted Jenifer to yell to the Sith, My Names Shepard and you can Suck It. plus did we mention its KoToR not KoToR which was all right, maby even good. but KoToR 1. i wonder if Drew Kapynshy (or something simular) will be doing the writing as he does for Mass Effect.

Edit: By its KoToR i don't mean its going to have KoToR features its from the company that made KoToR and is widely regarded as a excellent maker of high quality video games (KoToR 2 was Obsidian Entertainment) hell they were so good EA went and bought them out at extraordinary cost, something along the 600 million line this included Pandemic and something else I forgot the full story. this i like 'cus now a 3rd party dev is owned by a 3rd party producer. im tired of console exclusives.

IMA FIRIN' MY LAZORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, it had to be done. :)

It sounds odd hearing Female Shepard in a star wars game.

The more I see of this game the less impressive it looks as an MMO. The models and animations look at least 5 years old, ok with some high res textures etc, but very far behind the cutting edge.

Also, the more I read about the plot, voice-work etc, the better a single player game it sounds like it should have been.

I'd rather this was KOTOR 3!

I've never used the indie argument. I posted an opinion and you guys came down on me like hot hail from Flash Gordon. And you missed by several football fields. As a matter of fact, some large companies are only getting better, such as DICE. But Bioware needs to evolve kinda fast to catch up to the better gameplay offered by other companies.

So please stop being a Bioware fanboy and see past the fanservice they've been releasing.

I belive this make's for a good arguement (sorry no sound).
