The only thing I have to say and the only time I have ever disagreed was that Kane & Lynch 2 was not shit, and was better than everything on both lists. It was a huge improvement over the first, (apart from the plot and levels) all the game mechanics worked much better with the exception of some filters, but those werent so bad after some time. It is really just a shooter's shooter and obviously doesnt really offer anything to those who dont love to shoot asians in the face all day long. The co-op made it even better, which is an important part of the fun in games. This, as usual never gets reviewed. It is basically just like getting a blind dog to review cat porn. You have no say in the matter. It wasnt the best game by far but, it was decent, and I thought it was much more uniquely styled and had better gameplay than most games in the past few years.

Oh and Red Dead Redemption sucked. It followed in GTA4's footsteps and offered a vast world of fun and it turns out to just be a hollow shell of a game. Boring and tedious gameplay and missions. I finished it 1000/1000 even did the free co-op achievements too, but it was just awful. The only redeeming feature, also like GTA4 was the online free roam. At least in that you dont have to hold a button to walk, keep taking you gun back out, and not having to manually wipe your horses arse hole clean with a rolled up sombrero.

The best games this year were Fallout New Vegas, and Battlefield Bad Company 2. Infact they are in the top 5 of best games on next gen consoles.

All multiplayer and co-op games reviewed are void, if the whole game hasnt been experienced.

Also, seriously, this shit about invalid opinions with multiplayer games has been shouted time and time again, it's nothing new and I guess you might have a point but honestly, multiplayer games can be the best thing in the world but if you're playing with someone shitty they're always going to suck. It's a pretty unquantifiable experience. So, yeah, I'd rather he sticks to the singleplayer.

I thought his worst 5 were amusing and his top 5 weren't. I guess I'm part of that collective that doesn't like anything positive Yahtzee has to say.

Also, I think Yahtzee is interestingly different from most critics, in that his 'top 5' list wasn't a listing of the 'best' games, but the games he enjoyed the most, meaning it should have been obvious there would be a lot of indie, horror, and sandbox. I don't think this method is particularly better or worse than any other method, since 'best' games would be just as arbitrary, though.

I'm actually amazed you thought of 10 games from this year, there's none I can think of as worthy of mentioning for good or ill. Gaming in 2010 was bland.

1. The game need not have existed.
2. The game was undoubtedly weaker as a result of tacking on multiplayer that nobody cared about
3. The end of the game was markedly better than the start.

Where the first game was launched to unexpected success, the the fact that the second did as well as it did was mainly the result of hanging off the coattails of the first.

That may have been one of the funniest endings ever! Makes me want to go out and buy DR2

Really? Just Cause 2? Well OK Yahtzee, you're entitled to your opinion. I guess there weren't many great games out this year to be honest, JC2 was one of the better ones. I personally like Halo Reach a lot but then I actually play the multiplayer. I could feel my fanboy rage building for a second when it came up as bottom #1 but Kane and Lynch genuinely seems deserving of the title, good call there.

Was honestly expecting Final Fantasy XIII to take the top sport for worst game, it certainly did for me, but then again I haven't played Kane & Lynch 2 so that might explain it.

Bailey's ftw! Incidentally, interesting choices, but I still think Rockstar are right twats for both GTA4 and the fact RDR isn't on the PC.

Oh and while I agree Just Cause 2 was absolutely awesome for fucking around, it falls into the same category as Prototype. The awesomeness of the fucking around is directly proportional to the quality of the story and any related elements. Still, for screwing around, it indeed lasted more than anything else this year.

He reviewed it at the beginning of the year. His stance seemed largely neutral.

OT: That was funny. I'm afraid you didn't have me with that Halo: Reach joke (you'd already admitted you only found it inoffensive, the others on the "bottom five" were outright bad, I suspected you throw in some joke to piss off the fans). But I am surprised you gave the top spot to Just Cause 2... I actually thought it'd go to Mass Effect 2. Silly me.

I'd just assume every game was in his "Bottom 5." Nothing against Yahtzee, it's just his reviews make every game sound like they're not worth it and praise is very hard to find in his reviews. I know in his Batman: Arkham Asylum review he said everything he doesn't mention is fine and all, but even so it's kind of hard sometimes to distinguish between, "not mentioning it because it's fine," and, "not mentioning it because it's so wretched I can't bring myself to talk about it."

Well I remember in one of his first reviews he said that "What I learned from my last review, is that no body likes it when I don't insult the game." Also he acts so mean to games because I think that is just in his nature. I actually like him doing that because there are so many game critics that focus only on the good traits of a game and lend 30 seconds to the bad traits. He really counters all the other game reviewers who treat every game with pride, joy and optimism.

well, it WAS unnecessary, but it didn't really hampered the original one

1-System Shock 2 was also unnecessary (as far as I remember)
2-of course it was weaker, remember we're talking about BioShock here, and Bioshock 2 wasn't developed by the same people, so it wasn't expected to really improve on the first one when it comes to the story, that's something I liked, it didn't changed any of what was already established, but rather added on a couple of things, you know, details, like how did the big daddy's thing started, or how Andrew Ryan built Rapture
3-the multiplayer was of course tacked on, but I liked the way it was done, I mean, it does makes you play on skills more than, say, Call of Duty (you know, equipment hacking and shit). Half Life's Multiplayer was also tacked on, yet people liked it and it's still being played

now, keep in mind, I'm not arguing whether you're right or not, just giving my views on this (so I can feel better at night T-T)

Hah. I knew Kane & Lynch 2 was going to get the coveted worst game of the year spot. Although I did go, "... Really?" when I saw Halo Reach. Good one.

Good list. A really good list. I love Just Cause 2. I played it for more than 120 hours and I still can't get enough of it. That's how you make a freeroaming game. Big, explosive and with as much freedom as you can give to someone.

Anyway, my Top 5 list would have to be:

1. Mass Effect 2
2. Just Cause 2
3. Red Dead Redemption
4. Amnesia
5. Mafia 2

Seriously though, the Just Cause franchise has always been great just for the mucking around potential in the game. My strongest memory of the first Just Cause was stealing a C-130, flying it up to the highest altitude I could get to, then nosediving it straight at whatever highly populated area stuck out at me and bailing out. I wonder if it ever landed on anyone...

I'm not sure which surprises me more, that he put Red Dead ahead of Amnesia, or that he put Bioshock 2, which was mediocre but not really BAD like the other games, on his bottom 5. Admittedly I haven't played Kane & Lynch, but everything I've heard makes me think that's a good thing.

I still ought to give Just Cause a shot - and personally I really enjoyed the first dead rising, so fixing some of it's flaws should be a sure win for me... but I've been spreading myself thin gamewise and I think I just never got around to it.

I'm glad that there are male gamers that recognize and actually care that the only female game heroine that doesn't get her strength from her sexuality had her character brutally raped by Project M. Seriously, fuck those guys.

I know, it's pretty impossible to like Other M unless you're compatible with the unusual controls, but it still saddens me to see it listed as worse than BioShock 2.

I mean... it's not that BioShock 2 is terrible either, but I took a break from it to play something else and just haven't been arsed to pick it back up. It's not a very engaging game.

Anyway, yeah, I love Other M. The story is a mess, the voice direction for Samus is abysmal, the idea that a CO would hold back heat shielding from you when you're about to enter an area only slightly chillier than Hell is dumb, and the PTSD scene really would have worked better in Super Metroid... but I just loved the gameplay enough that those issues became irrelevant. It's a terrible shame that the story and its execution couldn't have been better, yes, but not game-killing.

The whole franchise might be in need of a reboot, though.
