Duke Nukem Forever Hands-On

Of course, Duke also gets drunk off of only one beer, which hardly seems to fit the manly ideal the designers were going for.

must be one hell of a beer...

Ego Meter.
That is genius work right there. I can't wait for May.

Isn't the Ego Meter system similar to the one in Manhattan Project?

archabaddon:
I'd still hit it.

As much as I've been one to use it as the vaporware trope of our time, I'm looking forward to seeing what the final product has in story... finally.

Me too. I'm especially excited that gearbox was able to finish it off.

So what's the new supposed vaporware example people should use now?...
Agent?

Yes, the Duke is back... but maybe I'm not in the mood for self-referential jokes anymore. I get it, it's been a long time. I want Duke to do Duke things, but poking me in the ribs every 3 and 1/2 minutes and saying, "look, it's Duke Nukem! Never thought you'd see this, did you?" is not clever. That said; holy moly this looks like pure, stupid fun with clever set-pieces to break up the action.

I got my wish, too; there's Why I'm So Great! That's all I asked for, really.

I may be being a bit premature but it actually sounds kind of good.

The question remains: does the fun that the game carries outweigh the time we spent waiting for it?

Resounding 'meh.'

DN3D already did most of these gags; and while they were funny when I was 17, I need a bit more substance in a game.

Or am I the only person in the world (except for maybe Yahtzee) who doesn't think that graphical superiority translates into a game worth playing? 'Cos there is absolutely no damn way I'm paying $65 for an "interactive" 8-hour cutscene.

Oh, and for the record, if they wanted an IP to develop into the ultimate sequel, Shadow Warrior was built on the same Build3d Engine as DN3d--and it was light-years better.

I shouldn't have read this at work, I can't stop smiling and my boss is going to catch on that I'm a dirty time theif.

Seriously, I think this game is going to be great - people who don't enjoy it probably take games (and themselves) far too seriously.

Also, are there tits in it?

Anyone have a good look at the pen on the screenshot on page 2? I wonder if you turn it upside-down if her clothes magically appear.

Cannot fucking wait!

This game along with Bulletstorm seem like they will bring goofiness back to this genre. All FPS games are full of themselves. All are trying to be more realistic than the one before it while not adding a lot to the table since Modern Warfare. All I want is a fun FPS. One that doesn't take itself too seriously.

While Bulletstorm is coming out in 2 weeks and the idea hasn't been around for a while, people have waited 13 years for Duke. I just hope we get what we want.

Duke: "Why I'm so Great? Kid there ain't enough pages in this book."

Hell yeah. All the Bulletstorm ads, demos and Duty Calls game have made me wanting to play this - a game that knows how to spurn the overly serious shooters of nowadays while still making fun of itself and of the juvenile spectacle it knows it puts forth.

Interacting with shit on the game world is one of the least remembered Duke Nukem gimmicks, so the mere fact that it's there bodes well for the game.

Down and dirty with the Duke in Sin City.

Shouldn't you have blurred the nipple of the girl on the pen on the 2nd page? Don't think the escapist rules allow for bare boobs in images.

Hey i was gunna name my life story that.
Duke is a lying thief!

But its hard to stay mad at someone whos book is called, "Why im so awesome"

Really? I thought the unprecedented amount of interactivity is what alot of people had nostalgia for regarding Duke 3D.

One of these perhaps? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1354411/Worlds-strongest-beer-Sink-The-Bismarck-goes-sale-55-bottle.html

In the midst of all this 'THE NUMBERS, MASON!' and 'ISA will suffer!' and 'DESTROY THE M-COMM STATION', 'Damnit, why do they always take the hot ones?!' is a nice retreat. I laughed when I heard the plot was centered around Duke saving his wimmenz.

Already pre ordered but the weird thing is I cant remember doing it

I know im loking forward to it, it may even be a day one buy.

Ego meter.

That just screams pure win.

Yep, as soon as I read that, I was positive I'd like this.

Duke is protected by the sheer force of his masculine self-image

that line just sold the game to me

this and bulletstorm are the kinds of games that i have being looking for, some humor isnt bad, i mean, i know faux news will kick himself in the head when he notice that the "rape" claims would have being better aimed at DN than BS

...i want to play both games now!

At least we'll always have StarCraft: Ghost...

It doesn't sound very fun. Inevitably its going to sell like hot buttered sex because its so legendary for delays but it still sounds uninteresting to me.

DO WANT
Ego Meter is just win and the book signing is awesome too, Who's going to bet Gearbox is coming out a month later with stats saying most people drew dicks on the book? (You would do it, Don't LIE)

Sink the bismarck! 41% alchohol.

Someone, somewhere, in an alternate universe, is crying that all their efforts to stop DNF from coming to be in all the multiverse failed.
GIMME THE DAMN DEMO!

What the Hell? Am i actually now looking forward to this game because of.....it's story? How'd that happen?

Did Duke ever say "That's one hell of a beer!" ?

For some reason I can only read your comment in his voice. :D

No shit. No fucking shit! The game is good? Seriously? Sign me the hell up!

Personally I prefer Duke over Shadow Warrior because it plays more fluidly, it's pretty close though. Blood is my favorite of the Build engine games by your proverbial light-years. Redneck Rampage is the distant fourth in the race.

The Build engine is a terrific piece of software by the way. Funniest thing is that Ken Silverman made it to see if he could rather than because he wanted to make games. It was then picked up by game developers and used to create some of the best shooters of the 90's.

maantren:
If only they'd do the same for Blood...

Hear, hear!

Blood 3 plz Monolith, I just want to melt a mime with a voodoo doll, is that too much to ask?

I'll take No One Lives Forever 3 and while you guys are at it could we get a Shogo 2? Just drop FEAR for a couple of years, okay?

And then Bungie could start making Oni 2...

Yeah, right.

I don't care anymore.Well I do, Will it be another dumbed down gun and run game or a decent FPS?

Damn and I thought I was the only Blood fan here! SW was good but Duke was better, a shame blood 2 was a joke I don't think Blood 3 is possible, its kinda like system shock 3 it just can't happen....

also shogo was awsome!

why do i just have the feeling that my heart is going to be broken?
