Is Fallout Season 2 Happening?

Yes, Amazon MGM Studios announced Fallout Season 2 on April 18, 2024. Many fans already suspected that Amazon would give a second batch of Fallout episodes a Vault Boy-esque thumbs up, given its recent behind-the-scenes moves. As reported by Variety on April 8, Amazon applied for $25 million worth of California tax credits to shoot Fallout Season 2 in the state. There’s currently no word on when filming on the second season will kick off.

That said, Amazon will presumably be eager to get cameras rolling as soon as possible. As part of its Fallout Season 2 announcement, the studio revealed that Season 1 is the most-watched show on its Prime Video platform since 2022’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1. Fallout Season 1 also ranks as Prime Video’s third-most-watched show of all time. As such, studio execs have plenty of faith in Fallout‘s long-term viability as a franchise.

Fallout’s Showrunners React to Season 2 News

Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke said as much in a statement included with the official Season 2 press release (per Variety). “The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far we seem to have exceeded their expectations, while bringing in millions of new fans to the franchise… We are thrilled to announce Season 2 after only one week out and take viewers even farther into the surreal world of Fallout,” Salke’s statement reads, in part.

Showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet also supplied a joint statement, promising more outrageous content in Fallout Season 2. “Holy s–t. Thank you to [director/executive producer] Jonah [Nolan], Kilter, Bethesda, and Amazon for having the courage to make a show that gravely tackles all of society’s most serious problems these days — cannibalism, incest, jello cake. More to come!” Robertson-Dworet and Wagner said.

Fallout Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
