Front Mission Evolved Part 2

Programmer Guy takes his Wizard Wanzer out for a spin near Percival. It goes poorly.

And the strategic value of shooting civilian vehicles is?

I mean I'm not a military strategist, but I'd save ammo for enemy soldiers.

"Wouldn't it be awesome if whales had Mechs inside them?"
"It would be briefly awesome."

Japan would REALLY be screwed then!

Yeah, but NONE OF THEM SHOWED UP!

It would probably a lot of fun to let you play some of that pointless distruction instead of just watching it...

WTF we don't even seen the main character at all in this cutscene

The only way I could tell the good mechs from the bad mechs was that the good mechs were getting demolished. Art direction fail.

Oh, I'm sorry. Clearly instead of "mech", I meant "Wanzer". Because, you know, that's waaaay cooler.

You know what's another thing I don't get about the whole giant mech thing, what's the point of giving the giant mechs giant versions of ordinary firearms? You know like hand guns and shit? Wouldn't it make more sense to have their armaments built in to the chassis?

See, wanzer has to go. I saw more skating then walking; let's call them sanzers. :p

Yeah, giant SMGs for mechs cracked me up.

When i heard that i immediately thought of Wales, and how screwed the rest of the UK would be...

Is the "space Russians" are hidden "congratulations on the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first human trip to space"?
Thanks guys.

...the mere idea that mechs had an intelligent designer...

Oh man, that was pure gold. Whichever one of you two wrote that deserves a high five!

Great show as always, makes Mondays suck less.

OK, I can appreciate the rotating ring defense with the ability to move vertically to get a more accurate shot on incoming projectiles, but I question the use of only a single protection ring for what is basically the most vulnerable section of the elevator. Even if they hadn't blown up most of the lasers with a special gun, and again I appreciate the thinking on the designer's part to allow diminished functionality after the loss of most laser units, the fact that the ring could be overwhelmed at all, diminished or not, means it was only a matter of time before some guy shot enough missiles at one time and from enough different directions to exceed the ring's ability to destroy them all.

Also, why wouldn't you just put rotatable lasers on the whole ring instead of slightly less than half? That would at least cover for my multi-directional mass fire scenario.

"Alright, I think this is what you would call a 'successful' sneak attack...well done, everybody!"
Nice....

"I don't know what that was, but I really hope we didn't need it....because it be gone"

great episode guys!

It's a good thing in terms of versatility, different load outs and such

Is anyone else getting a Bayformers vibe from the action in this episode? I mean, the first clue is the weird, digital noise the mechs are making.

So... it's like an incredibly lame Mechwarriors?

Meh. Seen worse.

Yeah this one was great. The skating mech comments, and talking about the failed star wars program (Strategic Defense Initiative).

You sir, obviously never came across a little game named Mechwarrior 4. Do so now. You might still be saved from damnation.

When i heard that i immediately thought of Wales, and how screwed the rest of the UK would be...

Isn't Wales supposed to be your Canada. Now if it was Scotland, y'all would be screwed.

Roller-skating Mechs being the most improbable?

pfft obviously you haven't heard of IGPX Grand Pri which was an anime about Roller Derby but with mechs.

All kidding aside, some pretty cool tech there...

Still got Vanquish on the brain, huh? Frickin' space Russians!

And that bit about Missile Command was great. That game's probably more fun than Back Side Front Mission Evolved, too.

That laptop looked like it at LEAST weighted 20 pounds... learn to estimate weight better guys
I bet I can customize a 15 pound gaming laptop at alienware.

This was the dumbest war cutscene I've seen in years... I mean.. C'mon...

Wait...So you're telling em Armour-plated Moby Dick is in league (no pun intended) with the Space Russians and the enemies from Missile Command?

Yeah but its slightly more xenophobic (somehow) than scotland and also slightly less technologically retarded. Give the scottish mechs and they'll try and have be too busy trying to fight them to figure out how to work them.
Edit: that strip also has to be one of my favourite ones of all time too

If I may point out, the skating mecha bit is a hold over from when the series was a tactical RPG. It was basically tank treads in the feet that allowed farther movement in a straight line, sadly however Square Enix decided to bend over this series in a similar fashion to Final Fantasy.

That laptop could stop a car from rolling down a hill. It will come in handy someday!

a £50 laptop? that's pretty cheap!
(don't correct me, I already know)

Redlin5:

From seeing this cutscene, I wouldn't be surprised if the laptop itself was also a hand-held cannon like a Transformer and blast off 15 bullets per minute that had hidden leeches inside them.. er, wait that's too random.

Anyhow this was a funny review, but I really don't know what's going on. Looks like every friendly thing has something mechanical about it..

"Yea. Front Mission EVOLVED. To think that mechs had an intelligent designer!"

That has certainly more than 1 level of sarcasm and possible insult to it...

EDIT: I'd pronounce "N.S.A.L" as "nasal".

And then Code Geass had it, but less than halfway through they decided, "**** it we're putting wings on these things."

sliding mechs aint far as ridiculous as giant submachineguns that look like normal smgs.

Maybe for the terror and moral effect?

The designers had to make sure everyone knew that they were bad guys.
(A Grey is more complicated then a black &white story).

Shit, now I feel like watching an LP of this game just to find out whodun'it? IS it the Space Russians?

Also, I GET when American game companies make games like Homefront or Modern Warfare 2 which stroke the nationalist "Protect your great American homeland form Eeeviill Commies" Boner.

.....but why do Japanese games do it? Are they just trying to band wagon? Or are they trying to blend in with MW2? Hope no one will notice the difference? Because if that's the case.....dude....roller skating Mechs? Really? :/
