Let's see Kevin Butler charm his way out of this.

I can't see the comic. Maybe it's private?

EDIT: Strange. If I go to http://cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/54/54795.jpg then I can see it fine, maybe firefox is just playing up.

Better?

well you've edited your post just as I commented.

I really liked the strip this week. Well said. Lets see how Sony will respond.

I expect the Escapist to remove all profile fields asking for personal information or risk being labelled blatantly hypocritical.

You don't need to know my Real name, Location, OCCUPATION?!, Country, Birth date (excuse me?), Gender, ICQ/AIM/Yahoo/MSN/Skype, XBL/PSN/Steam/Wii/Xfire/Kongregate/Raptr, Twitter/Facebook/YouTube.. etc etc etc.

Don't even ask.

You're setting yourselves up for the same fall mi amigos.

ehehe this was pretty funny
there were so many potential Kevin Butler jokes floating around in my head once this fiasco broke

HAHA very funny. But shame on you kicking us ps3 users when we're down, still funny though.

Also apprantely the psn will be back up on the 3rd May, so silver lining an all.

They get that stuff so gamers can interact, also, there is no reason for hackers to steal that info, they attacked sony to ether hurt them, or get credit card info.

Oh yeah, thats right. Those capcom games use the always online DRM.

From a PC gamer to any PS3 owner who can't play their legally bought games... welcome to our world. And I totally know how your feeling.

PS3: It only does everything, except pay competent network security personnel.

BSOD, Lair*, Catherine. Nice choices lol... he must have a Dell.

Majority of that information?

Optional.

I mean really, who even has an ICQ number anymore?

OT: I am really waiting for how Sony plans on gaining reputation back in the gamer world after this huge of a fuck-up.

Might be after their next console, I know if the 360 had something of this magnitude, I wouldn't stay with it even after "everything is fixed".

On the topic of not getting their games...
I have several steam friends who bought the PS3 version of Portal 2 since they got both PS3 and PC and/or they don't have credit card to pay online.

So no co-op with them until PSN is back again =/

OT: Funny comic yet again Shamus ;)

None of that information is mandatory. So you only put it there if you want, and you know it's being publicly displayed, in fact that's the whole point of it. There's a significant difference to having your hidden info stolen.

I think all of that stuff is optional here, but yeah, other websites ask for a lot of shit they don't need. It would be nice if the Escapist could look at the birth data in my profile when determining whether it can start showing me a video, though. In fact, I think that would be far better "security" than making you select a new birth date every time you try to watch a video.

Also, I want a field where I can tell the Escapist that I'm not a robot, so I won't have to enter captchas anymore.

BSOD, Skyrim, Catherine. Nice choices lol... he must have a Dell.

You were able to tell the game just by a clevage shot?

I wonder if Sony will try and get people back with massive discounts? That would be nice. I'd be happy with some nice discounts.

Mmmmmmnn... discounts...

Second one's Lair, actually. Same shot here: http://www.gamemunition.com/articles/10-most-overhyped-ps3-titles/ #3 (yeah, it's probably somewhere on escapist too but I'm lazy)

D'oh! I'll make an edit... thanks

That's Lair, not Skyrim.

OT: To be fair to your virtual Butler, you couldn't have chosen a less girl-like model for this comic, even if you'd co-opted Gordon Frohman.

You're back with a vengeance, Shamus!

And you're damn right, too. Sony have never really been interested in not behaving like pigs to customers. The local Sony centre only hires people who have a gift at talking down to people and refusing to fix or replace faulty crap that's still within warranty.

So funk 'em!

The Escapist has my credit info too. And if there's one major lesson to be learned from Sony it's that arrogance is the catalyst.

I would say the BSOD is probably Fallout New Vegas' patch problems ;)

The second to last panel is my favorite :D

Gotta love that Catherine screenshot. Appropriate considering, what KB was talking about in that panel.

More kicking Sony I think than the users

I have to say it...

Well PS3, let's see your Blu-ray player get you outa this mess.

(I actually like the PS3 but I'm sick of hearing about how it plays Blu-ray discs)

I hate DRM. And you would be remiss if you didn't point it out. Nice comic, as usual Shamus.

My name was "Captain McAwesome".

http://www.gamesradar.com/f/why-you-shouldnt-blame-sony-for-the-psn-mess-and-why-you-really-really-should/a-20110427114345836073

Sony's PR is a mess.

But I'm never going to blame them for getting hacked.

What's going on with KB's twitter, I wonder?

Selling sand in Dubai isn't all that difficult, apparently they import sand from Australia because the native sand isn't luxurious enough to put in the sand traps of their golf courses. I find that by drawing a false similarity to the cultural phenomenon of buying sand for your desert, you sully the good name of those rich Dubai-ians(?) who love nothing more than a fantastic game of golf! Oh, and Sony something something...

Yeah I was about to add Dubai imports a crud load of sand too. Hopefully the metaphor holds otherwise PS3 people are looking at a remission.

The way I see it, after this fiasco Sony are going to make the PSN the most secure database on the planet whilst there still may be flaws in other people's :D

EDIT: Also much prefer this format, though I understand it might mean more work
EDITED: In that there are two lines of panels as opposed to one. It does make the first/next/latest bar looks a little unprofessional though

Then don't enter it. We don't require your personal information in order to view the site. Or even to be registered on it. You can put in as much or as little information as you like.

They built an island shaped like a palm tree in dubai. I bet they're buying sand by the ton.
