Solving the Sexism Situation

Sexism in videogames is the worst social situation civilization mankind has ever faced. Thank the sweet babe o' Nazareth that someone has a way to fix it!

Watch Video

Jim looks too much like some televangelist in the show banner.
I suppose objectification for both genders isn't such a bad idea.

Well, this was odd... had a little chuckle though (if only because it really was odd).

Still not sure what void this is supposed to be filling.

So much for a second chance I suppose.

I really, 'really' like this guy, but we do need some sort of content disclaimer for him.

Great solution though.

Patton662:
He ain't wrong.

I wouldn't call him right either since it's clearly a piss take.

I can't see this video segment lasting much longer. Everything he's mentioned has been mentioned elsewhere, and in a much more appropriate way.

My hero.

The best kind of piss-take: the one that illustrates the ridiculousness of the status quo.

I find it amazing how this guy can talk for minutes on end without saying anything. Escapist, please stop paying this guy, this you guys above him. He's not funny, he doesn't make intelligent points, and he doesn't even say anything. He brings up the points without discussing them. That's twice now I haven't even been able to sit through his whole video.

Well I watched this one all the way through, which means it was either an improvement on the last one, or my will to live is slowly draining away.

I'll give episode 3 a chance and see where it goes from there.

I got through a little over half before I had to turn it off. He's just not a great personality; I had hopes that a second video would change my first impression of him, but... nope.
While he might have a point somewhere in there, it's nothing that hasn't been covered before or presented in a far better format.

A different, perhaps more radical, solution:

How 'bout we objectify no one, and only place men or women in revealing clothing when it is tangential to exploring their character and/or fits their cultural/geographical background. You know, as in good storytelling that is inclusive and realistic at the same time.

Already have been said, way better than in this.I wish this goes to a podcast or dies completely.

Well, I liked the Kirby music.

and, uh.... yeah.

This guy is pretty much piggy-backing off of what commentators like Yahtzee, Moviebob, and the Extra Credits crew have been saying for a while now. The host just seems to be trying too hard to make a name for himself. I mean, The "Jimquisition," seriously? My only serious critique is that host needs to get over himself.

So this plus last-time's - it's all meant to be 'tongue-in-cheek' but still trying to get a message across, right? Sorry if I'm a little slow on the uptake but I'm still not sure what this show is trying to do. It seems to be aimed principally at game designers rather than gamers per se, am I on the right lines here?

Hey more unnecessary nudity in the videos. Nothing quite like it to make you look intelligent and give your argument credence.

I like Jim, every since I found Dtoid.

He does need to lose those glasses, though.

Still think he should stick to issues like this, though.

That PLAYING IT WRONG one showcased a lot of bullshit in the game reviewing process.

This is the impression I got as well. I decided to give this 2nd episode a try to see if anything improved. Unfortunately I don't feel his "style" is one I can enjoy and get behind. Crude paint drawings with far too many 'obscene' references just don't do it for me. I still don't see why this isn't just a written article.

While I agree with your position Jim, the... graphic overtones... are going to get people to focus on the wrong aspect here.

That said I'd rather have equal cheesecake for all, not through ramping up the naked men factor, but by toning down the chainmail bikini factor. You called it being prudish, I call it having taste. Sure a bit of eye candy is nice from time to time, but do we really need it everywhere?

I just can not bring myself to like this guy.

Dudes, Escapist, I get it... he's supposed to be the asshole alternative to the smart shows for comedic effect.

Problem; it's just not funny! People don't find MovieBon and Extra Creditz funny because they're intelligent... they're funny because they are funny.

If it's been the same guy who green lit this and Game Dogs; fire them!

This guy keeps getting worse and worse.

I think I'll give up trying to give him a chance now.

Ok, that was a lot better than last week...

Pro:
- Didn't sound as condescending.
- Actually made me chuckle a few times. The 'More half naked man!' with the clip show actually made me laugh :).

Con:
- Again, old issue that's been touched on a lot by much better people. Sorry Jim. The whole 'Dick Wolf' debacle is several months old by now, on the internet, that is ancient history.
- The crappy ms paint drawing really don't add anything. In fact, they detract from the show. I don't mind the swearing, but the crude and vulgar and poorly done drawing annoy the hell out of me...

Still, unlike the first one, I actually got some enjoyment out of it.

Is it bad that I agreed with everything he said?

Still not funny though.

Also, I think I may have been agreeing with the parts that were supposed to be jokes. Is that bad?

So the show sucks, but people will click cuz the picture is of boobs. Stay classy Escapist.

"Who wants toast!?"

Okay, I thought this one was funny. Good job sir.

EDIT: He didn't sound (to me at least) like an ass this time, maybe that's because I'm a guy? Who knows. I approve this episode, but not the previous.

like the other ep, i didn't mind this. there are better things on the escapist by far, but overall not too bad, gave me a few chuckles at least.

"Men like to look at tits"?? really? I need to consult my parents about this.

Just like the last one where he had "lesbian" on the thumbnail? also check the comments for the God of War 3 sex scene article.

ninjas man, get you every time ;)

Thanks for being one of the few people to actually notice the point though. you are 100% correct.

Well I suppose in terms of equality that makes sense... But there is a reason why people in the dark ages didn't run around in thongs.

Not sure what to make of these videos tbh

First of all, this is me voting for the Escapist NOT to kill this show. If that even matters. Secondly, Jim's right. Nobody makes men sexy in gaming, and when they do they make them more than just a nice body. It's like how in Dragon Age 2 Isabella is nothing but a two-dimensional character with big breasts, while Anders has his whole "sexy tortured look" with an interesting story and complex personality.

So, two step plan for developers:
1) make all game characters foxy
2) give everyone deep personalities and amazing storylines.
3) figure out where to keep all your GotY awards
