You know I like listening to/reading people analyzing or over analyzing games as much as the next gamer, but can we please get rid of the nudity? It adds nothing to the the video, and makes if feel more childish. So can we please get rid of it? Please?

Else, it was okay. He did not fumble his lines as much as last time (from what I could tell), and he did provide an interesting perspective on a situation that has gotten a lot of attention from nearly every major game commentator in the last 10 years. I will watch #3, that is all I am going to say...

I have to say it wasn't that bad, well done!

Well, I did enjoy this vid more than the first one, I actually thought some ideas presented were somewhat mature and thinking...

...But does hurling images of dicks and generally acting like someone that plays on xbox live? Eh...I think I'll watch the less frequent Game Overthinker instead.

You make good points yes, but do you think famous speeches are filled with dick jokes?

yeah... Sarcasm.

i guess its good issues, but his attitude turns me off to him. If someone else was doing this stuff (like, you know, how extra credit does, and how the extra punctuation does) then I think it would be a bit more bearable.
EDIT:

Probably should post something relevant to subject material. I dont find sexual things in gaming a bad thing. I've far enjoyed the practical clothed women (Hildegards) to the impractical (Ivys), but that doesnt mean the impractical bother me. I dont know, to me it seems stupid to get bent out of shape because someone (man or woman) is under dressed in games when you can find any number of "gentlemen's clubs" ads in the local paper, or on billboards, or TV, or radio.

Hell, on most the days the news where I live is more violent then the hardest core M or AO game (but then again we have people who get shot or jumped and beaten to a blood pulp, of the latter I've been a part of a few).

This episodes is better. But he needs a co-worker or cat to yell at. He has this televangelist vibe because he shouts directly into the camera. I figure it would come off better if he were yelling at something (even a tree) to the left.

You know what if he spent his time yelling at a random thing each week (tree, can of pesi, cat, baby, water fountain) I would piss myself laughing.

PS I am funnier and more opinionated give me a show plz.

Eh.
The only part I enjoyed was the use of music from FFIX.

He swore a lot less in this episode than last week, but I think he was attempting to be satirical in this one.

It's not that I think it's a bad show as such, I just don't take anything away from it...

Wow. Every time this show goes up on the Escapist, the site's credibility goes down another notch. What did he even say, what points did he make? After watching it a second time it still seems as though it was a 3 minute set up for one mediocre joke that he then explains for the remaining minute. In addition, the crooked podium, blatantly meant for shock value visuals and still wonderfully dodgy recording quality makes me wonder if the podcast itself isn't the joke. I'm starting to believe this person is either working a genius level of meta humor or the Escapist crew enjoys watching a good trainwreck just like the rest of us. It's amazing to me that they are letting him post these embarrassing things on their website when there are loads of other people that are more talented that could fill his slot.

PS: Stop using Final Fantasy music as your soundtracks, you're making them dirty.

hmmmm, more crudely drawn penises for penis sake, a rant I couldn't watch all the way to the end, and no redeeming value. Yeah, I'm done with him.

I laughed. Also I want to say, Jim should keep performing here on Mondays. Also, I love how he presents his topics. I personally enjoy it.

He made some great valid points, keep it up!

I don't think he's inherently bad.

His topics are just so incredibly dumb. Everyone has done all of these and better. Dig a bit deeper and I would watch it. Do something original, or at least off the beaten path. Did you just look up video game controversies on Wikipedia?

On another note, that was some interesting usage of the Killer 7 boss lobby music. Not sure what to think about that.

I got through a little over half before I had to turn it off. He's just not a great personality; I had hopes that a second video would change my first impression of him, but... nope.
While he might have a point somewhere in there, it's nothing that hasn't been covered before or presented in a far better format.

Not good at all. Tired of watching him after two videos. Crude language, and childish drawings do not a show make. Wonder how long before Squenix sues for use of the music.

Jesus, MS paint cocks again? From a website that thinks they are good enough win "Lifestyle" awards? I thought the escapist was above "just dick jokes". This would be an acceptable video on a website specifically for satire and comedy, but this is a legitimate gaming magazine, not cracked. Not only that, but this was not funny.

I'd take women in full-plate armor rather than men in metal plate skimpy clothes.

Jim Sterling:
Solving the Sexism Situation

Sexism in videogames is the worst social situation civilization mankind has ever faced. Thank the sweet babe o' Nazareth that someone has a way to fix it!

Watch Video

First about the actual content.

While I have heard about sexism quite a bit as a topic, the equality of objectifying both sexes is a side I don't often see. We often forget that women play video games for the same reasons men do. To escape. And to give them the option of looking at half naked men seems like the plausible thing to do.

About the shows layout.

I kinda feel weird about the red background thing and the podium. Combined with the suit and glasses it gives this weird impression like your a modern day nut job spreading his hateful propaganda. I dunno.... Try something else? Maybe less crude pictures as well, unless that's your trademark then hey run with it... who knows... it may grow on people.

While I agree with a few that you still haven't found "it" whatever "it" is, I don't think you should pay much heed to the ones hating just to hate. Because we all know how much everyone likes to bitch and moan about anything, specially on the internet.

This guy has about as much charisma as my Orc barbarian in D&D

Kudos for improving the delivery. Improve the audio quality and perhaps tone down the music and this is something I might listen to regularly.

Thanks for the NSFW warning Escapist. The cropping of those pictures was a bit too liberal. Lots of man bush.

I love Jim in writing, but somehow it just doesn't translate to video. Found this to be rather "meh" again. he is trying too hard.

Also, I had a hard time getting past the mic looking like a giant cock pointing at him. Mics are supposed to go inside podiums, not on the outside.

I still haven't found the hook yet, guys, I'm sorry!

I know this guy has a opinion about games, but does that mean it warrants an entire show?

There's just no meat to it. And I'm not talking about the intentionally bad hairy dick drawings.

Well, it was better than the first episode.. I guess.. sort of...

Let's see what we have here:
Another retread issue with an opinion we've all heard before with no new/real answers? Check.
Poor production quality? Check.
No real place on the Escapist given the content that already exists? Check.
Me not bothering to watch another episode? Check.

See ya Jim.

Ok I wasnt sure last week but ive decided I like this Jim fellow.

I dont believe sex is approiate in all scenarios and doesnt always work as a theme but its true that women like to perv it up just as much as men. A few more female directed games would do wounders, I mean I can apprieciate Marcuses chiseled chest as much as any women can... if were talking about hard work concerning physical fitness or from a aesthetical standpoint.

I mean did you SEE Thors pecks in the new film, BY VALHALLA!!! Who knew man boobs could look good.

Great Guy. And a very good point. I am all for more free sexuality in this world.

this was way too stupid to even be funny.

Wow, I've never seen a more divisive video series... not even Lisa Foiles' Top Five (which is awesome).

I fall squarely on the "Urrrrgh..." side of the divide.

Assassin Xaero:
I'd take women in full-plate armor rather than men in metal plate skimpy clothes.

Also this. Seriously, armor is armor because it's supposed to protect you, not a third of you.

GRRAGH, CANNOT UNSEE.
Why no warnings with shit like that?!
Agreed he's definately not the best show on the escapist but I reckon he could still do his own podcast or just join in with the the escapists current podcast.
Also, to the haters, this show won't end, there's plenty of evidence of the escapist keeping bad shows for 1% of their audience *cough*Lisa*cough*.

Onyx Oblivion:
I like Jim, every since I found Dtoid.

He does need to lose those glasses, though.

(snip)

Still think he should stick to issues like this, though.

That PLAYING IT WRONG one showcased a lot of bullshit in the game reviewing process.

I was ready to write this series off. I'd just finished watching the this latest episode, and trying to figure out how we, the escapist community, lost ENN and got stuck with The Jimquisition instead. Neither ep here has been any good.

But, I gotta say... after watching the clip above, I'll give it another shot. Let's hope it improves. But thanks for link.

(I still want to see ENN come back though)

Strike two. I made it all the way to the end of this one, but I regret it.

It's like Eric Cartman trying to be like John Cleese and failing, except I think that might actually be funny... this isn't.

So, this new video series is like a nerd rage soap box time? Or is it sarcasm? I'm gonna say sarcasm.

P.S. Plate armor must be form-fitting to work properly. With that in mind, fully armored women can look AWESOME.

aeric90:

Tone down FF9s music... you make me sad.

8bitlove2a03:
It's like how in Dragon Age 2 Isabella is nothing but a two-dimensional character with big breasts, while Anders has his whole "sexy tortured look" with an interesting story and complex personality.

Wrong.
Isabela is quite likely the most psychologically legitimate character in BioWare's whole canon.
That perception of her as little more than a walking pair of bosoms is the two-dimensional assumption people make, and one both game and character knowingly disassemble.
I guess you missed that.

As for Sterling, he is as reductive, after the fact and flippantly condescending as ever.
I can't quite understand why this show exists.

I agreed with him, but I won't be watching him again. Honestly his presentation isn't great, but I would recommend having him write articles this just seems like it would be better done in writing.

Then my job is done.

He can do good commentary...It's just that he's picking the wrong issues. He does great when he talks about the industry behind-the-scenes.

Well that made a nice change from the usual high horse moralizing on the subject

A point I havent seen addressed? NOT EVERYONE IS SEXY. IN the real world not every single human conforms to the same physical standard of sexyness, so making them do so in a game seems idiotic to me. Making the character feel more like real people, and less like 2d characters, just pics from someone's porn folder with clothes slapped on. Then we IMO would see an end to some of this, if we treated the characters as real people.

Reading so many comments of people COMPLETELY missing the point of the video is just about, if not funnier, than the actual series itself. Looks like I'll have yet another thing on The Escapist to look forward to on mondays.
