Super 8

The embodiment of "not bad."

Watch Video

All shall kneel before the Adequacy of this film!

Still I think the monster film thing was only made to lure in the people who didn't want to see 'Kids make a film and grow from it.' as it doesn't make that much and the studio-pushed 'Alien Cover Up Threatens Everything.' was to make sure the money pile was nice and big.

First time I heard the Kung Pow Wii U joke... Such a funny movie.

I was worried when I saw the first lens flare, I thought my monitor was starting to die or something. Nice visual gag, Bob. :-D

So, "Cloverfield Jr." ???

Pretty much exactly what I expected.

Sadly I didn't expect much from this film to begin with.
A pity that the only flare Super 8 seems to have is on it's lens.

I remember seeing an interactive trailer for this is in Portal 2. I have to say, it didn't interest me too much.
*sigh* Yet another apartment space in Nostalgia City.

Just finished watching it, yeah, it sounds like sort of what I was expecting. Bob made it sound like one of those black and white films.

The good parts are good, the bad parts are bad and you just have to decide which side to place your faith in when it comes to seeing it.

I think I'll still give it a shot though. Maybe when it comes to the dollar theatre near my house rather than pay more than the price of the DVD for tickets.

I honestly thought my sight was on the way out. Half frown, half clap.

Wait... Kung Pow refrence!!

PLUS ONE INTERNET for Bob!!

OT: I didn't even know that this movie existed, and now I don't plan to remember that fact if it is that messy. Good review.

The lens flare was a bit annoying.

But yes. Kung Pow was an awesome movie. And now I have to rent it out again because you reminded me of it.

I love the visual gag with the lens flare, but you should have let it go unsaid until the end. Drawing attention to comedy makes it less funny.

Otherwise, another entire review that I agree with Bob almost 100% on. This is becoming a scary trend. My review on my site said most of the same stuff, but I think the movie is definitely worth seeing, just not for getting as hyped as they want you to be.

So it's bad BUT not "Skyline" bad... Hmm maybe I'll see it on the cheap night.

Hurray for Kung Pow refrence. The movie looks ok IMO, but i think i will not see it. Also they are makeing an Asteriod movie!?

I'm not gonna lie, the lens flare part made me freak out and close the browser page haha.

I'm of the opinion that half a really good movie isn't worth seeing. 50% is still failing, regardless of the good parts. (Not that I would have seen it anyway... I hate movies starring kids.)

Yay... Moviebob likes Kung Pow (Still one of my favourite movies EVER... watched it about 40 times, have the whole dialog stored in the rusty cluttered thing i call mind)

Also: Watched X-Men yesterday... was okay, but i didn't felt the "Greatness" in there. Could have been partially the dubbing (watched in german), though. Need to watch it in original when it comes out on DVD.

Hm... i am not looking forward to this "Super 8", and i am really not a fan of Abrams. Will pass on this.

I actually haven't heard that Wii U joke, yet, though Kung-Pow IS a funny movie!

Also, people seem to be forgetting what the Tanooki Suit really was: it's the raccoon suit, but with the ability to turn into a stone statue. In the trailer, all we've seen Mario do while wearing the tanooki suit is slow down descent, something the original raccoon suit or, Hell, even the cape from Super Mario World could do.

Seriously, I'm genuinely surprised Bob haven't noticed this. Or are you just so taken aback by the whole "OMG, THE TANOOKI SUIT, I LOVE YOU FOREVER NINTENDO!" to realize something obvious from what you say is the best game ever made.

I am an Abrams fan so I will probably go see this.

me and my wife still will go see it. just because it is really hot where we live and we have nothing really better to do. as long it is in the category that is ok to watch film, im fine with that.
we both dont expect much of this movie but could be worth watching.

I paused the vid and flipped through my tabs to make sure mine wasn't taking a crap.

hmm, intriguing.

And despite its goofy name we all know Bob is probably going to do an Overthinker episode about the WiiU. Heck, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the thing. Though I wish everyone from journalists to gamers would stop bitching and pretending like they're some financial or industry expert.

Great review, now I know what the movie is actually about. As you said, they liked hiding things, well they did so much hiding in the television trailer I had no idea what the movie was about, and not the way that makes me interested in seeing what it is about.

From the trailer, as far as I could guess, it could have been a movie about some kids and pets being kidnapped by some nutcase. Not once did I get the idea it was an alien movie.

I use a 32 inch HDTV as my monitor, and I thought the same thing. I actually paused the video before the gag reveal, saying, "oh, no, no no, please no!"

I killed the full screen on the video to make sure it was supposed to be there.
But yeah, I think I remember seeing a trailer for this when the original Iron Man movie came out. It mostly left a big "WTF?" on my face, really. Anything that gets hyped that far in advance is bound to suck, IMHO.

Same here, my monitor hasn't been enjoying the high heat and humidity and I figured it was finally about to bite it. :)

slightly off the movie topic Bob but i believe Smash Bros is also going to be on the 3DS this time around if i remember the press conference =D.

anyway yeah i wasn't all that hyped for this one, maybe its something ill see if it airs on TV in a few years or something.

Green Lantern next week should be interesting

It's going to be on BOTH

Yeah, me too! I had to switch to another tab to calm myself, though I knew it was a bob trick.

also, Adequate 7 is the best movie title joke you've ever made.

True, JJ loves his lens flares. I once tried a drinking game where you take a shot every time a lens flare comes up in Star Trek. Needless to say, it only lasted about 2 minutes before someone realized it would straight-up kill us.

Damn you, Bob! During the whole 'lens flare' ordeal, I had to paus the video, scroll down and change tabs to see if there was something wrong with my monitor.

I was planning on seeing this but I hate kids in these sort of movies. If it takes up half the film it's really not worth it anymore.

The lens flare gave me a headache. I knew what Bob was doing, but it lasted too long.

As for the movie, I am not a JJ Abrams fan so I didn't really expect much from this. Pretty much confirms what I expected.

Sound like a classic Abrams "I set the bar now watch me trip over it" moment, it;s nice to know the main plot works and the child actors give a good performance (any screenshots of the monster BTW?)

Huh, never even heard of Kung Pow until now, so thanks Bob!

As for the movie, I'll probably go watch it irregardless, as it has piqued my interest.

Totally got it with the lens flare 'gag'.

Eh, wasn't expecting much from this movie (JJ Abrams is not as good as he thinks he is) so this is no surprise. Skip.

As for the Wii U joke -- first time I heard it. I read jokes about ambulances (Wii U, Wii U) instead.
