Turtle Maki

MovieBob reveals the long lost TMNT anime.

why do all anime heros have to turn in to robots its the one thing that really puts me off them

They don't. Saiyuki and Saiyuki Reload never had that happen, among others.

do i sense next week's topic?

Well... that was surprisingly weird, but also... kinda meh...
I mean the TMNT thing.

I never really was into that, but I guess there is something for everyone.

Nice to know about this sort of stuff though, although can't say I'm thrilled.
But good show

I had a TMNT toy when I was younger. It was Donatello and he even had a little boa staff. Then I tripped on him and cut up my kneel. WHY DONATELLO, WHY!?

A Ronin Warrior knocking up a Digimon. Try and shake that mental image kids. Also, Bob still owes us a "Rain of the Supermen" episode.

When they turned in to their crystal form they looked a lot like wolverine... Only more greenish.

That was interesting to see, considering I was a HUGE turtle fan until power rangers came along it's nice to see what happen over on the other side of the ocean. XD

Wow, the Shredder looked TERRIBLE in those things.

Congratulations, Escapist community. You've now completed the ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com entry course.

I called it! I fucking called it!
FIRST!
*EDIT* AH FUCKING NINJAS!
Oh, and in the last episode I called this episode, that's what I mean.

He said he was going to do it anyway after the credits, so "calling it" is rather meaningless here.

Do you want me to go through the list of ones that don't or should we just not waste each others time?

OT: Having never been a turtles fan, forgive my dull enthusiasm. I guess I was never really sold on it because of the name. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Say it out loud and tell me it doesn't sound ridiculous. It's the same reason I never watched Biker Mice from Mars, because the name wasn't intriguing, catchy or interesting to me. I'm sure if I watched these, I might like them, heck, Pun heavy humour and mild violence are in Digimon so I guess I would like them, but it's that name. That damn name.

It's like going out with a girl who's called Arnold Schwarzenegger. It doesn't seem real, but it is and is awkward as hell.

Calumon: That name is just silly! XD Why can't we watch it?

Thanks Bob. I used to read the old TMNT graphic novels back in the day on long road trips to Tahoe. I thought it was awesome to see Splinter catch an arrow with his bare hand in one of those old books. Loved Casey Jones' old mask too... Had no idea they went all Gundam/Eva/Voltron and gave the turtles a blazing sword ultimate attack. Not really interested in checking it out after this episode, but that's weird man! Thanks for the heads up. (Damn I'm old.)

Thanks for sharing this BoB.

Was looking forward to a more in depth guide of the TMNT anime.

And someone did it before him, it's a about a fifteen year old animation hundreds of poeple probably did it by now, plus the big picture has a whole bunch of topics that Nostalgia Critic never touched.

OT: This is why I don't like it when people complain about America ruining anything they get there hands on, because all the countries do it, most of the time it ends up crap no matter who grabs it.

I didn't know that Power rangers hurt ninja turtles' ratings, I know they did to Satam Sonic.

BTW the ovas are on youtube with english subtitles, you can see them here:

This video made me think of the x-men anime series. Only that the x-men anime is actually easy to follow unlike the 20 different versions of the x-men comics.

True, but so many do. Really randomly too, I just watched the first episode of GunxSword and at the end the villian and protagonist gets a huge mech out of nowhere. I was just sratching my head wondering, "Wtf?" Threw me off the series for sure.

Very nice! And can we have a Samurai Pizza Cats episode now? :)

The remake of TMNT (a few years old at this point) actually does have a lot of dynamic fight scenes and whatnot. It borrows very heavily from anime. The first couple seasons are particuarly good since they are mostly based around the good parts of the comic.

So it's basically Saint Seiya + TMNT...? I can picture the thought process that went into this: "Hrrrmmm, but how are we going to make this American cartoon appeal to our young'uns?"
"Easy boss! Just take one of the most popular shows of yesteryear and fuse them together!"
"MY GOD! YOU'RE A GENIUS!"

And thus, the TMNT anime.

See, you just needed to be brainwashed. They repeated "Biker Mice From Mars" several times in the intro. It turned your on/off switch to "off" so the puns hit that much harder. Let's go watch Mobile Suit Gundam the 08th MS team together! We can be snarky and difficult, and trade socially awkward quips about stuff that's only in our own individual heads that the other person isn't going to get! It'll be like prom with that girl I didn't ask to go with, but somehow ended up making out with under the bleachers and went over bra, only to get smacked in the face for my boldness. I bought her an omelet after. I drank a milkshake and felt weird when she started talking to her friends at he next table. I paid the bill, left, and went on to be hired randomly by NERV to clean up Eva fluid, after 01 was launched. Damn. Sometimes I wonder if my AT field is on at all...*tap* *tap* Hello? AT field? I'm making strange references that people will Google and pretend to get! Help! What the hell is going on? Why does 01 produce so much fluid? Does Movie Bob know where the live action version of Evangelion is? hahaha! No seriously Bob. What's the haps on the live-action Eva movie?

Holy crap, I remember owning some of those limited release TMNT toys. I should go find them and see what they go for on E-Bay. I even remember seeing those videos. NOSTALGIA!

Japan is so weird...

But the turtles DID use their weapons in the cartoon, and if you shopped the gunmetal innards of the foot clan robots to red gore it'd be a damn bloody cartoon. And you know what? The turtles, or Raph at least, didn't seem to have a problem with splitting someone open, because it wasn't until after he eviscerated a foot clan robot that they found out that their opponents weren't flesh and blood.

*Shred-clang!*
Raph: "Clang? Wait, did you say clang?!"
*Rip-clang!*
Leo (or maybe Mike, I forget): "Hey, these guys are robots!"

It wasn't just anime that got away with a whole bunch of stuff back in the day.

I totally did have a couple of those "metal animal/armor" ninja turtle toys. I thought it was so cool.

oh come on! the turtles movies were fantastic!

'its quiet'....'a little too quiet'
*big fight which turtles win*
'well that was easy'....'a little too easy'
'ITS RAPH!!'....'a little TOO Raph'

CLASS

I actually have the Donatello version of the armored monsters turtles somewhere in my giant chest of ninja turtles, but I'm not sure I still have all the parts to it.

I want to see one about the reimagining of the powerpuff girls into anime, that was effinf weird

We really need an American/Japan animation exchange program. I know a lot of American action cartoons are already getting remade into a more anime style, so let Japan take a crack at remaking The Flintstones while Warner Bros. goes and gives us a fresh spin on Elfen Lied or something equally dark, gory, and sexually disturbing (too many examples to list here).

Am I the only person who really struggles to understand Moviebob's logic behind when he chooses to use those different faces?

The turtle anime stayed truer to the series than the last 3 seasons of the show believe it or not.

Michelangelo a crab/lion? He had a tarantula pet/armor!
Hell I still have that toy!

The more human looking mutants are surprisingly off-putting, other than that it doesn't seem too much weirder than the original show.
