Duke Nukem Forever: Multiplayer

The developers at Gearbox Software play team-based deathmatch in Duke Nukem Forever, but not everyone does well.

Watch Video

What the heck is Donald doing there?!

Alon Shechter:
What the heck is Donald doing there?!

Whyever the reason, it makes the video better.

Really pathetic that they have to resort to hiring actors to fake having fun to sell there game. Try and create a Good game next time and you won't have to resort to this.

Heh, not even professional actors can make it look very fun.

But I'm going to buy Duke Nukem Forever anyway just to see if Donald Faison will randomly show up and hang out with me.

Also, Jeffrey Lewis (Vork from the Guild) with the massive beer in his hand the whole time was funny.

Lol, chocolate rain guy at the beginning taking the guys coat away.

I think RedBox has that game now. They do at least where I live. A rental is likely a better bet. Just saying.

OT: Wow, even these e-celebs with their mad internet dollars can't make me want to play this game. Sad, really.

They didn't get the memo that they're released game bites? hmm. . .

I mean, they had it easy playing against The Guild staff..

This. I mean just stop Gearbox. It's over. The king is dead and has been dead for about 12 to 14 years. Your shitty ass multiplayer isn't going to fix that, especially if the only advertisement plan you have is a couple of celebrities no one cares about. I mean really:

I remember seeing this video some time ago on another website. I really dug the Multiplayer enough to play for hours and have a great laugh.

Actors playing games for publicity is nothing new and happens a lot with Madden, Call of Duty, Halo, Gears Of War.

This was actually really cool. But you can have fun playing a ton of MP games if it's friends having a drunk piss.

Is it a shame that I found the cameo celebraties getting into it significantly more exciting than the gameplay? I'm sure you can have an experience like this with any multiplayer game with good friends.

You can do better than this, Gearbox. Now stop being silly and be awesome instead.

Okay so they get some 'attractive' women and Turkleton to play Forever, still not good enough guys, mainly because no one plays online. Reckon you guys should of stuck with campaign alone. NO WHAT MICKEY WAS THERE? Ooh damm I wanted to see him play, hes so adorable!

Erm...it doesn't look that fun...it looks very very stiff.

(Unless Dr. Turk comes with the purchase. Then I am sold! TAKE MY MONEY!)

This, the game's multiplayer is fucking horrible. It lags, has terrible hit detection, no sense of weapon balance and the controls are clunky as hell.

Imagine how much more fun they would have if they played a good game.

I find the appearance of Tay Zonday more interesting than anything else. I get that the other celebs were just there to make the game look fun, but . . . what the fuck was he doing? Did he voice Duke or something? What the fuck?

Ouch.

If I hadn't played the game, that video would have come across as a bit silly.

Since I have played the game, it's actually a bit insulting.

"Hey, remember that $70 you wasted? This is where it went!"

Interesting video but I wish they focused more on showing the gameplay than player reaction. It's like Gearbox doesn't want to sell this game.
I aim to get it when it reaches the price it is worth...like $15.

I agree with that.

I enjoyed watching that video and I hope they had fun too. The black guy is definitely the funniest guy there.

never cared for the MP really. the SP was more then disappointing that i wish i can get my money back. 45$ out of the window. :(
having actors pretending to enjoy the game??? wrong move gearbox. you already fucked up opposing force and blue shift.
valve will still be my favorite developers. at least their games are fun. even when they take their sweet time with epi 3.

Signed up just to post this response.

I was just playing DNF on Team Duke Match, and on Vegas Ruin even, the same map that was shown in the video. I can ensure you that although Duke Nukem Forever may not have a huge selection of maps or game types, multiplayer is quite solid on its own. I found no problem with hit detection or lag, and there are always plenty of people available to play with.

One of the main draws, I think, is the challenges available. There are over 400 challenges, think of them as mini-achievements if you will, that earn you experience points when you complete them. By completing these challenges and levelling up you earn new shirts, headgear, and eyewear for your Duke to customize, and new furniture for your penthouse suite. It's certainly enough to keep you coming back for more.

I agree hat its and obvious PR grab, and can be seen as a desperate move as well, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the video and having fun with it. So at least it wasn't all wasted time for me :)

*Duke Nukem voice* - "Your game is lame"

Still, a fun looking video. Can't trust the actual multiplayer to be as fun though, cos well, it just isn't. Multiplayer is sad. Oh well...

I love that "Turk" is pretty much "Turk" in real life. Also I knew like, ahlf the people. (Haslip, Chobot, Donald, and the The Guild guys)
Randy actually seemed hurt.

I know. I don't think he even played. He was just standing around awkwardly, like that one guy who stands directly behind the game line at a con and never actually plays because he doesn't want to embarrass himself but actually wants to play. That aside: Why was he there? At least some of the others made sense (The Guild), and some were great (Turk), but just, why? I love the guy to death and I like his music, but, geeze Gearbox, if you want random internet celebrities get someone who is one for playing games!

Or I'm just talking out of my ass and maybe he actually plays games 10 hours a day when he isn't making music and having lunch at the local university cafeteria with random hipster friends.

When he isn't doing porn voice overs that is, because MAN, this post has wandered off topic.

James Joseph Emerald:

That was a fifth of Jack Daniels

What a boss (Pussy it was full the whole time)

I am glad this is the first post.

I saw that and then I screamed like a little girl.

Strange how they couldn't get the game to look all that fun on a promo video.

:(

"Oh, god, buy our game!
Please, PLEASE buy our game! Look how much fun were having, look look!
Oh, god why wont anyone buy this game!?"

Look how much fun those B-list celebrities are having playing that ugly and unimaginative, kludged together multiplayer game.

Looked like a hell of a lot of old-sk00l, non-CoD style deathmatch awesomeness.

Sign me up (on a PC with a mouse, though)!

Say what you will about the game, Gearbox have incredibly well done trailers. Granted, even Minesweeper Online can be that fun if everybody is in the same room and you're in the right mind, but still, a pretty fun video.
