On an off note, I don't want to punch the kid holding the "God Blew Up The Shuttle" poster. Instead, I want to donate money to NASA.

In fact, any hate or article on negligence I see towards NASA, I'm going to donate $5 to NASA.

.....Seeing as I have no desire to see this movie...

Those of you that DID see it...What IS that big crazy plot twist that's supposed to be awesome, but ends up going nowhere?

Oh, see, I thought "Red State", was referring to a communist state, and the box art (or whatever that is) sort of radiated that initial impression. Now I'm really confused, and why are a bunch of people, Wil Wheaton included, imploring people to pay for this if it's so unashamedly inconsistent and poor?

I'm pretty tired, so Bob's synopsis for the films main body confused me a mite more than it might have normally, but that was definitely imported trilpe-A refined and matured Chiroptera faeces.

I don't much care for NASA.

If anyone is actually interested in hearing Kevin's view on the movie and his smoking habit, should listen to this

It's roughly 3-5 min in

I thought the movie was alright in the sense it was a how-to in dealing with fringe religious groups.

Kill 'em, they're probably crazy anyway.

Kevin Smith has dove into a cult a personality and likes the waters. It doesn't matter how bad the film is, because he's creating buzz about the movie, and will ride dvd sales as it will be a "cult" film.

I personally haven't seen the film, but from this review and the really lame good reviews I've seen elsewhere, I'll wait to see this movie until one of my idiot friends buys the DVD and I can borrow it from him, then likely regret it.

You know, mentioning that it falls into the level of "The Room" bad just makes me want to see it more.

Probably because it would be a BIT too inflammatory to call Democrats on the left side of the spectrum "Red" when there was a time that America has a huge paranoia of Communism which at the time was given the colour personification of "Red" as in "Red China".

So back when days were a bit more honourable, The GOP accepted the "Red" colours and Democrats in "Blue". And, I don't know, it makes sense making "red-blue" colour distinctions, they are both on opposite ends of the colour spectrum and also the two primary colours of the American flag.

But it makes no sense here as all the people involved in this film are FAR beyond the scope of any Republican ideals. Way, WAY out there. It's as dumb as saying Obama is a Stalinist communist because he is merely on the left side of the political spectrum.

Especially considering in some countries, he'd still be considered to be on the right hand side of the spectrum! Cheers though. Now I kinda get the distinction, although it's Red and Blue in many countries, I was just wondering why it seems reversed over there. Makes sense with the anti-Communist propaganda though

Yeah, Americans don't have any time for that communist bullshit.

They had their revolution against the "establishment" in the 1770's, there is really little need for communism in America. In Europe it is very much an anti-monarchy/anti-traditionalist political force, when America did that over 200 years ago only replaced it with Reformation ideals such as from John Locke... rather than the ideals of the likes of Lenin and Stalin.

The only thing communism has to offer is getting rid of capitalism. I think Americans love it way more than they hate it.

Yeah, a hundred percent. Communism doesn't offer much to the world. Communism isn't massively popular anywhere really, at least that I know of

Why doesn't Bob want to spoil the ending to a movie he doesn't want us to watch? If the movie is so bad then don't worry about spoiling it.

Oh. I was wondering how that movie was. I was thinking about watching it.
I might get around to it.

Kevin Smith, he's lost his edge and stuff. If he just kept making movies with Jay and Silent Bob (as he is still a stonier and could never possibly get that wrong) that were at least as good as Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, I would be happy. I mean, who doesn't like Jay's rap?

Yeah but you also said that Splice was the best movie of the year and I thought it was horrible. So either this is super horrible or actually good. I'll have to find out.

This is a bad movie, Bob? Watch Fading of the Cries ... and don't blame me for it.

Stereotype, the last refuge of poor writers. People wonder why I don't got to the damn movies anymore. This kind of tripe is why, I don't even care if something negative about something that is tangentially related to a part of something that is considered 'my ideology', but doing it badly, really badly...that's what pisses me off. Using christian fundamentalists who are clearly outlandish caricatures of an extreme sect is just bad. Terribly bad.

If he actually wanted to make a movie about religious groups who persecute homosexuality in much the same way, he should have used Islam. Or if he'd wanted to write about governments whose actions revolve around wiping out religious sects, he could have used China. But no...the 'stock villain' writing can't be legitimate, it can't point at actual widespread atrocities being committed in this world every day by real groups, instead it has to be Christian Americans are the villain, and the American government is the villain.

What ever happened to movies that made you think about how it relates to reality, rather than makes you wonder how it's warping reality?

Well...

...

I'm just going to ignore that one entirely...

Oh and Moviebob reads Cracked! XD

not if you've seen him work with the muppet like creatures in forgetting sarah marshall the role that got him the job on this film, from everything released there is no reason why the muppets would suck, frankly i haven't hated the muppets ever

this is totally not torture porn totally worth the viewing there is alot less violence than people think

Kevin Smith already answered what happened.
In "Too Fat for 40" watch the part about Wayne Gretzky. Basically it boils down to this, he has his cast of characters that he invented, characters who were kinda based off people he knew. Thats why he can knock out Jay and Bob movies till the cows come home and they will be awesome. He knows those characters and at that time he knew that style of humour.
He was a 1 trick pony. Sure he could flesh that trick out and add new twists but it was still crazy stoners and geeks in various situations. But as he said with Zack and Miri, it was a film about broke ass stoners trying to figure out how to pay the bills. But thats not his life anymore, he has not had to worry about how to pay the bills in years. He got away from that style of humour for too long and lost it. Sure he could do Jay and Bob out of reflex but anything else and he just does not have it.

Seriously Bob, just watch the man talk and he explains everything himself.

So what, does Kevin Smith think that Fred Phelps is some kind of mega-conservative? Need I point out that Fred Phelps has run for various offices as a Democrat?

To be fair, though, for Fred Phelps it was less about a political ideology than it was about, well, himself.

I don't know if this got posted on the Facebook comments or not. I hope I'm not violating a ToS or something by posting here as well.

It seems the overall message of this movie, to put it in a dialect Bob would understand: You don't gotta be a religious nut job to be some kinda fuck (but it helps).

I don't know that much about American politics regarding movies, but I recall someone (might have been Bob reviewing a Transformers movie) saying you can't actually film a movie and include the military with authentic military hardware and uniforms without the green light from the Pentagon. With that in mind the movie would have been perfectly coherent if you replaced the Extremist Christians, teens, and feds in the south with Facist Muslims, tourists/missionaries/whatever, and American soldiers in the middle east. Except that movie would never see the light of day in America.

I'm not saying this movie went over Bob's head, but ratther under it; he didn't see the forest because someone was beating him over the head with a tree.

wait its about how the westboro baptist church represents all republicans in an anti-gay murder cult?

Just to let you guys know...Im not in the anti gay murder cult.

He is TOTALLY in it for the money. All he has to do is sue people who try to make him stop what he is doing. He only believes that shit so he can get money.

wow...
Birdemic would be a bad Youtube video, yet alone film :/

Apparently there was supposed to be a different ending

wiki

During various interactive Q&As for the film, Smith has stated that the original ending actually continued through with the trumpets signalling the Rapture. After Cooper tells Keenan to shoot him, Cooper's chest explodes, followed by the remaining family members' chests exploding one by one, and then the remaining agents' chests exploding one by one. During these deaths, the ground shakes and splits, and Keenan curls up on the ground and closes his eyes. When he opens his eyes he sees the last agent killed with a giant sword coming out of his chest, which is being wielded by an enormous armoured angel. The angel looks at Keenan, puts a finger to his lips, and says "shhhhh". The angel then flies off into the sky, and as the angel banks out of the picture the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse descend.[10]

Just came across this. Fascinating, really.

There are a few alternatives here. Either Moviebob got massively trolled by Kevin Smith and didn't understand how. Or Moviebob tries to massively troll everyone by saying that Red State is on par with The Room, which is just completely asinine and takes away pretty much any credibility Bob has as a critic. Both alternatives has Bob looking bad.
