Junk Drawer: Reloaded

Werewolves, boobs, politicians and Marcus Fenix.

Your comparison between Soul Calibur and Twilight is interesting, but I think I've got far bigger problems with Twilight than the fact that Taylor Lautner's contract requires him to have his shirt off for the vast majority of the movie (as, I think, you do too). Until THOSE problems are fixed, I'm gonna continue complaining about it.

Oh, and is anyone really that excited for Soul Calibur V? I loved the second one, but the fourth one felt like a weak retread and the fifth one looks even worse to me.

Good ep, but the lack of coherency made it a bit jumpy. Maybe some sort of segway is a good idea for future eps like theese.

As far as games go, I've never understood the complaints against women showing skin and looking like models. Men show just as much and have far better muscles and looks than any regular guy. If women want to look less sexual in games, can we please get less sexual men? Maybe it's just because guys are used to typical game men looking like models in games so they and girls don't seem to notice what they actually look like? I don't know.

I like how people make a fuss of Old Republic gay marriage forgetting the original trilogy had fucking incest in it.

But Twillight portrays itself to be something itīs not. Soul Caliber is blatent fan service. Twillight is pretending to be something itīs not! Regardless, neither is completely neccesary according to me.

Frankly, porn belongs in porn. Itīs okay to have beautiful people, maybe even a little fanservice, but there is no need to overdo it.

Seriously, why not just put it in porn?

That bit about the potential for same sex relations is actually the most interesting thing I've heard about the Old Republic so far.

With the exception of Edward's pale-ass undead abs, I can safely say that bare male torsos are one of things in Twilight I DON'T have a problem with.

I also don't have a problem with revamped pop-culture heavy, current gen pandering versions of old girl's TV shows cause I'm just NOT gunna watch em!

"Next week, coherency." Ha!

Thank You! It always pisses me off when people don't understand the meaning of feminism and seem to swap it in and out when what they really meant was 'crazy bitch.'

A feminist =/= a crazy bitch.

Eh, it's inevitable that FiM is gunna get cheep knock-offs
Just like anything popular
No idea why you put that in there, other than to try and start an argument.

Also, yes, we should not complain about Edward or Jacob in Twilight. I even think we should leave the sparkly vampire thing a rest. There is so much more wrong with the mere concept that is the Twilight series, that going after the superficial is like complaining about how silly Hitlers moustache is

I don't complain about the guys from Twilight, i complain about the unfortunate implications of Twilight.

Oh, and as long Friendship is magic stays good i don't care about bad reboots of bad 80s cartoons.

So lets get this right,

Gay marriage = Destroying innocence
letting someone burn to death in hot lava, decapitating and dismembering people with a lazer sword and the full genocide of a planet to prove a point=Fine.

People are weird...

next week coherency? has this show ever been coherent?

On the point about the My little ponies, you do realize this has already been happening for the last 5 years right? new batman cartoon, new spiderman, new strawberry shortcake, new scooby doo, new looney toons, conan movie, he-man movie, avengers cartoon. MLP isn't some new thing where they take an old property and remake it, It just happened to be the diamond in the rough in this cycle.

Sorry, Bob, but Ron Paul already doesn't exist on this plane of reality.

Also, an addendum to the race issue: If there's a racial controversy and you don't agree, consider for a moment you might actually be wrong. It's not just the black friend, or the tokenist attitudes that's the problem. It often comes from a place of "I'm not bothered, so you're wrong."

Or better, "You hurt my feelings by asking me to be considerate, and that's wrong because my feelings are hurt! SCREW YOU!"

Which brings me to feminism, much of the response against feminism is because it hurts the feelings of people who desperately oppose consideration for anyone but them.

Indeed. Also re feminism

I don't care about the attractiveness of the male leads, or how they run around in next to nothing. I'm bisexual, so of course I like that, but I think anyone seriously that worked up is just fucking insecure.

Of course, what does trouble me about Twilight is its portrayal of the Edward/Bella RELATIONSHIP as anything but creepy...

As for the rest... yeah, pretty much agree. Especially the bit about feminism, a term which is mainly used as an insult by misogynists who don't like being called out on their misogyny.

Oh good god, I hope not! I don't think I could stand shitty rehashings of Jem, Rainbow Brite, or She-Ra.

i had to watch it twice to make sence of it, good job bob. brain crack is the best crack there is. also, why did you sneak into my apartment and take a picture of my junk drower? seriously, it kinda creepy.

Just a quick note on Bob's closing bit and images there... Strawberry Shortcake's been remade already, and the original Jem is back on the air (usually right after MLP, which I'm sure is intentional.) I do think there's a market for a Rainbow Brite reboot, so that's my vote for '80s cartoon most likely to get destroyed' there.

Sony with Vita Memory Cards - The biggest problem is that the Vita doesn't COME WITH ONE. Even the 3DS comes with an SD card and you can buy higher capacity for WAY cheaper than Sony's proprietary stuff.

The Old Republic - I bet you anything some Star Wars geeks swiftly informed that guy that there ARE same-sex romances in the Expanded Universe.

SCV - Fair enough, but I would at least argue that the SC series KNOWS what it is. Plus the series also has plenty of fanservice for the ladies what with Sieg, Maxi, Mitsurugi and so on and is getting MORE with Sophie's son Patroklos and werewolf boy Z.W.E.I. I'm more interested in it being a big roster shakeup due to the series being set 17 years after IV.

That and it doesn't have relationships with creepy implications and pretend they're "teh most romantic EVAR!"

Feminism - Agreed, people should actually study their history a bit closer. People just use it because they're too gutless to at least be HONEST about their misogyny.

Dutchman - Eerie

DE: HR - Agreed, I'm getting tired of that lazy argument. It's not like it makes the entire GAME racist

Shitty 80s cartoons - Ooooohhh yeah, unfortunately.

not to mention the original series, which dates back to the 70s, had a father cutting his kid's hand of, torture, murder with magical powers, gangsters, drug runs, giant space slugs who are horny for Carrie Fischer, a hero who shoots first to handle his debt to said gangsters, bounty hunters, very obvious Nazi analogues, bar fights etc.

But yeah, homosexuality is the death of innocence.

A Strawberry Shortcake reboot doesn't have Bitch Pudding, then it can't be any good.

Thing is that it's fictional entertainment based on what a lot of women find fun in a fantasy. It's not designed to be used as a basis for a real relationship, take it from a guy who has read more than a few female erotic novels, they are almost never representative of a healthy relationship or any relationship a woman would want. Women on the whole are not so stupid as to confuse an idle daydream with a workable plan.

If people are that easily influenced by fiction then you have to wonder about games and violence, after all the main moral point of most games is that murder is the best solution to a problem.

I bought SC IV, I played it for a day then went back to SC III(love the strategy-ish campaign is has). The fourth one turned me off so much I've lost interest in all new installments to the series... even if Vader or Spawn or (that guy from Tekken (I think he was from Tekken anyway)) or Link is in it again.

Hey, they "fixed" that, remember? So it's all ok now... well after a few more edits and reselling of said series anyway.

The only thing people are focused on with Soul Calibur V are the guest characters. And yeah, the female form depicted in the series is degrading to put it lightly. I always really uncomfortable playing the Soul Calibur series because of its treatment.

You can make an outfit look both sexy and practical. Soul Calibur's depiction is really just a cheap way to sell more copies.

Truthfully, there's nothing empirical about Racism. It's an entirely societal thing and there's no measurable way to prove or disapprove it other than "I find this to be offensive" or the creators of supposedly racist material having their intention proven.

Over all, Bob, I think you come across as a culture alien to the internet. Golden rule of the internet: Never take it too seriously. It will only drive you insane.

Bob, never got a chance to post in your videos, but really, the Big Picture is one of the best things I've seen you do, and I always look forward to the next Junk Drawer.

But seriously... Reloaded?

If you can get even one idiot to stop using feminist as an insult and actually read a bit of history, well, you're a better man than I.

Thanks for fighting the good fight without being a dick.

Good episode MovieBob, ha I get that referenes if he say his name backward.

Oh wonderful, another Junker Drawer episode... Maybe in this one he'll admit he's a brony.

Perfect scores... Yeah, I guess I USED to be like that. I'm fine with a game or like or am going to get anyway getting a 7.0 or higher, usually, because to me, it means that someone else liked it as much as I expect to like it... Yeah, it's rather confusing.

I hear Ron Paul is an awesome politician... One of the only politicians my friend trusts... He voted for him in the last presidential election... somehow.

I didn't really mind the storage systems from 1997. So much.

Innocence vs. Ignorance... That's actually a good Big Picture topic, here's hoping you do something like that!

Another SoulCalibur, huh? Which guest character is appearing this time? Doesn't matter, though, Bob's got a point about the shirtless werewolf guys. I clearly don't come across as many trolls or ignoramuses as Bob does, if he's going on about the word "feminist" as an insult.

Wow... Just... Wow... Poor Blockbuster, Borders, and Circuit City. :(

I thought it was weird... Just, I don't know, if a black guy doesn't think it's racist, then who am I to say different. Hell, just what IS racism anymore...

lol, Christian Bale's Batman voice sucks and anyone who tries it imitate it sucks as well. :P

Hey, as long as it doesn't mess with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, any other studio can do whatever they want with their girly properties. I'm just lucky we got a spectacular dream team with this show.

...So, wait, are you a brony or not?

Okay I hadn't thought of the negative effect My little pony could have on other shows. Although the interview with lauren faust suggests what they did was kinda riding on the line so it would be hard to actually imitate the shows efforts without the phrase "more trouble than it's worth" ringing in someone's ears. I will say this though. I saw a special on dora the explorer that pointed towards them having a special involving a unicorn king and that's what I consider a response to the ponies popularity. Probably a lot more horse related things but still the same kids stuff.

But ya know what would amuse me greatly? If hello kitty got another cartoon show and it was like my little pony but japanese. I'd watch that.

How does he keep getting away with boring, obnoxious political BS? It ruins the flow of his videos. He's going along fine and then, Lisa Simpson starts on a diatribe and I respond with an annoyed sigh.

It's not like he's some sort of highly educated and/or involved citizen when it comes to politics. He's just another shlub off the street.

Seriously Bob. Stick to what you know. Movies and games. Not politics.

Catchy Slogan:
Thank You! It always pisses me off when people don't understand the meaning of feminism and seem to swap it in and out when what they really meant was 'crazy bitch.'

A feminist =/= a crazy bitch.

Correct, the "slang" term for the crazies would be more around the lines of "Feminazi" and not to reiterate his "racist" comment but I know many MANY feminists who HATE how certain choice people of their group go waaaaaay over the line turning a womens rights group into a vision of a women are BETTER THEN EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE ELSE group... which they aren't... (or in other words, kinda how christians get when you think all their sects act like the catholic sect...)

On he twilight note: Yeah I myself am sick of the skimpy outfit uproar... But that's because I want to bye and enjoy a game playing as characters I like playing as from how they fight while everyone else says it's how they look... I mean come on, when Talim, Yochimitsu, and Nightmare are my main 3, and people ONLY comment on the one... yeah come on people

and no I don't insult twilight for being soft-core porn, I insult it for insulting and destroys the mythology's surrounding two of my favorite mythical creatures in the same way Fox destroys the concept of "Intelligent Life" (...in America)

Re: feminism.

The beef lies not with the early-to-mid 20th century feminism (suffragettes, riveting rosies), but with the third and later waves of feminism wanting not equality, but preferential treatment (affirmative action, or whatever the PC name is for it). I dont have any problem with any woman saying that she is not worse than me because I'm a man, I have problem when I am insulted merely for the fact that I have a dick. Or when I'm called sexist when I point out that woman almost always marry up in social strata, not down, and that they can, and do engage in "I bring the vagina, you bring the house" exchanges, or that they almost always get the kids and 50% of everything (not their contribution) in a divorce.

And I'm sure I'm going to get called a sexsits arsehole in this thread.

I don't think studios are aware enough to try re-creating MLP:FIM. It may result in more re-makes, but that's already happening so no one is going to notice. (Thundercats, Voltron, Pound Puppies, and My Little pony. Is it getting 80's in here is it just me?) It could result in similar animation styles and series spin offs.

I could see them attempting a MLP for boys, but I doubt they understand it's appeal well enough to pull that off. (Think the inverse of He-man -> She-ra)
