Green Lantern: Extended Cut

Is the extended version of Green Lantern better than the theatrical version?

Watch Video

Wait wait wait... i haven't seen Green Lantern and i don't plan to do so but... the big obnoxious Macho is the hero and the nerdy guy is the villain? I mean, that's pretty stupid but it's in a way also kinda original... usually it's the other way around.

Well, I was kindof hoping for The Three Musketeers, but was doubley dissappointed when I saw that he was basically going to rehash his original review. When he said ''I could spend another 5 eposides explaining everything that's wrong with Green Lantern'' I thought he was joking. Now, I'm starting to worry that he wasn't. Why a review he already did, when there are juicy new movies out there?

I am never interested in these films when they release a 'extended cut', unless that film is a beloved favourite. And certainly not when that film was a steaming turd...

That said, did anyone see Advent Children Complete? The final fight in that was awesome!

It's not original at all dude, the shits just coming full circle is all. Intelligence and cunning have always been mistrusted and devious elements of superenemies, clashing directly with the muscles and virtue of the American hero. Also, British Accents. Instant intelligence. Instant authority. Instant evil.

The ting that annoys me the most about the Green Lantern film is that the latest Green lantern comics (read: Geoff Johns taking over) have been fucking awesome. Like spine tingling, goosebump raising amazing.

Well, that hope of a better director's cut just got snuffed out...

I wonder if The Rum Diary is any good?

Well Fuck me but that was redundant. Extended cut of sucky movie only adds more suck? Is the Green Lantern going to be this year's Expendables for you Bob?

Oh well, at least we've got Puss and Boots to look forward to next week!

okay so no paranormal activity 3, what about johnny english or the three musketeers... me and friends had a bet on what you were reveiwing and we all just lost... i actually wanna know about the 3 musketeers movie. i just got paid yesterday and i'm wondering should i save my monies and buy captain america and another movie next week or should i go see a movie and wait till the price drops a bit on cap...

EDIT; ah, checked his blog, neither the three musketeers nor paranormal activity 3 were shown to critics. I betting johnny english wasn't either so there ya go. He shoudla revenge reveiw of all the movies released this week just spite the lasck of press screenings. BTW not seeing anything this weekend buy cap on day 1.

Ah, too bad Paranormal Activity 3 wasn't shown to critics, I was looking forward to that review today. :-/

Aaaaw, come on, it's not like there isn't anything else to review. How about The Three Musketeers? It was a B movie with interesting action scenes and a battle between steampunk airships, isn't it more interesting than reviewing a slightly different version of a movie that was already reviewed?

Sorry Bob, but I STILL have to disagree with you. I saw Green Lantern, and it was pretty damn good, for a comic book movie. It wasn't as good as Green Lantern: First Flight, but it was good for what it was.

Anyone who went in seeing this movie and expecting Citizen Kane, Ben-Hur, or It's a Wonderful Life either needs a lobotomy or electroshock therapy.

If you're wanting a review of Paranormal Activity 3, check out Spoony's website. Just be prepared for a long review. It's about an hour long.

Ok, ok, ok, we get it.

The Green Lantern film was shitty, but I feel that this still needs to be said...

So are the fucking comic books.

Well the original version was massively disapointing so I don't think I'll be forking out for the extended edition anytime soon.

On a side note I loved the extended cut of Kingdom of Heaven, it added probably over an hour of extended footage that was not only excitiing but also made every characters goals and motivations that little bit clearer and just goes to show how brutal the cutting room can be. All in all it takes an average film and makes it a true modern epic - everything I could hope for with an extended cut version.

I do own the Extended Lord of the Rings. Twice. Couldn't resist the BluRay edition.
That said, not surpriced it sucked in extended form too. You can't salvage everything. And yeah, Hammonds path to villany is questionable, he seems much more sympathetic than Hal untill he suddenly goes "yup, I'm evil now"

Are you seriously still bitching about people finding out your secret club of movie fandom, Bob? For god's sake man, move on! I thought you got all that immature garbage out during the Scream review.

Fucking seriously man. It's just depressing to see a grown man so traumatized by such insignificant things in his past.

Sucks that MovieBob wasn't shown Paranormal Activity 3 to review it. Granted, it might be worse than the last film, but I have a strong feeling it would be far better than watching Green Lantern - Extended cut or not extended. Either that, or the Three Musketeers. Probably would be a better worth to Bob's time and everyone elses.

Am I the only one who went into this review thinking "oh man, here we go."? I question the necessity of driving this point home multiple times.

Then again it reminds me of what i learned in a coaching class: reminders are extremely valuable. We need to remind ourselves not to let this happen again BEFORE it does.

So are the fucking comic books.

Your oppinion on the comics may be what they are, personally I love me some GL, but this movie was not only bad in it's own right, it was also a disgrace to the comic.

You know I wasn't planning on seeing this movie ever but the way you keep hating on it makes me want to see it just to see how awful it is...

CronoT:
for a comic book movie.

This is the problem. At this point, post-Spider-Man, post-X-Men: First Class, with the Avengers on the horizon, this phrase never should be tacked onto an opinion to justify the film being gelatinous crap. That's like saying Super Mario bros was good, for a videogame movie. If movie producers are going to use a property, they better have the talent and quality actors to churn out something worth seeing and not worthy of scorn.

I don't understand how people can think Green Lantern was so horrible, yet praise movies like Capatin America and Thor.

They were all equally ridiculous stupid dumb fun. Nothing great by any means, but nothing to make people (like Bob) sound so insulted.

Because its bob. That is all.

MovieBob:

In summary: Yes, but not by nearly enough.

Same here.
At least I got a good chuckle at how bad this movie must be... To be honest, both of Bob's reviews have me contemplating seeing the film, just to see how much it sucks...

Eh the Green Lantern wasn't as bad as you said it was, but it was still pretty bad.
Lets just have Ryan Reynolds focus on the Dead-Pool movie, ok Hollywood?

No offense Bob, but could've done with a new movie. While I'm sure the Lantern was deserving of it in terms of how bad it is (personally, that was obvious to me as soon as I saw Ryan Reynolds' face in the main role, but hey), extra 5 minutes of raging at it was kinda useless and could've been conveyed in one of the two photos at the end with a shot of the extended cut BluRay box and a writing saying something along the lines of "Adds one scene to the movie, still sucks just as much".

I love hearing you rage about this movie, I really do. That said, 2 episodes is probably enough. I haven't watched it since I love the real Green Lantern and don't want it ruined, that said, with MB's constant hate towards it, I want to see how it could have possibly sucked so bad.

It really is a shame that director's cuts and special editions tend to be crap. I usually don't bother with them, though I do remember the good old days where that sort of thing was rare and usually awesome.

Or, at least, not 2 minutes of B footage hastily edited in.

It's not just Bob, though. It'd be one thing if it was just one man's opinion, but you look at their rotten tomatoes scores, the fan response, it all screams "Green Lantern was shite while these others rocked!"

Now, I should add I haven't seen any of the three movies yet. I've actually got Thor in my PS3 now, and I'm about to go start watching it, but I cannot personally say whether I agree with the general feeling or not. I've had a string of health issues that meant I missed the theatrical releases and am watching them as I can get them on Netflix. I'm just pointing out that such a general feeling is there.

Green Lantern always seem retarded hero to me, power is ok i guess, but the idea he can turn the green light into anything just seemed stupid.

I still to this day have not seen Green Lantern, and I refuse to, even when I can watch it free. I guess DC kinda left their brains behind while making this, not realizing the only other bankable property they had was Batman, and just let WB roll with it.

I cant believe they pumped so much CGI crap in their. I mean at least Hal's suit souldt have been an actual suit not animated. Im sure most movie and or DC fans would agree that it probably would have looked much better if they used people in suits and make-up and animatronics rather than straight Computer generated. Hell with the make-up effects and stuff they have nowadays (like the Orcs in LOTR or even the Hunters in the new Predator movie) it could be done easily and look fantastic.

My last comment is something ive been lamenting for awhile but really glared at me a couple of days ago. Why is it DC cant make a live action property that does justice to the original source material, save Batman, but their animated movies not only do justice but have great action and storytelling to boot. I watched Batman: Year One a couple of days ago and IMHO it is bar none the greatest adaptation of a comic to visual media to date. The art may have been updated slightly(for its time the comic was good but the movie brought out so much texture and feel to it) but almost every story element and character design was ripped straight from the comic. Their other movies like the Superman/Batman ones, or the Green Lantern and Wonder-Woman ones where either inspired by or took heavy inspiration and narrative from the comic lore. What the hell is so hard about doing the same for a live action property/

True, but with bob if you don't agree with him, then you're a frat boy or some other insult that just a stereotype. It annoys me that people follow him so blindly (or any review for a matter of fact). Heck, just go see the movie yourself and see if you will enjoy it.

It just meh, when people can't let others just enjoy the movie or whatever they are into. They have to go insult their intelligence or taste in movies, just like how people here insult each other for having a prefer console.

Tin Man:

I fucking love that film. My only problem, though, was that a lot of the extra scenes just seemed a tad unnecessary. The bits about Moogle Girl and Denzel barely fleshed out anything for either character.

That being said, my problem with the disc itself, is that they likely had enough room to remaster and include Last Order, but chose not to. Kind of a bad move, but I can understand why they took it out in favor of Episode: Denzel.

OT: I never actually saw GL. I'm not going anywhere near it though, seeing as how Bob just rages at it to no end. I'll stick with Marvel from now on, because DC, with the exception of Batman, just can't seem to get their heroes right on this generation of the big screen.

moviebob obvious is movie bob.

OT: ahh so once again towards the last chunk of the review, we get to see where all that rage and hate comes from...

i would say "oh the irony", but not gonna divulge into that.

still, who was expecting it to honestly make that much of a difference from the movie version?

if anything most extended additions add a scene with some boobs and maybe a random "lets drive down the street!" scene.

really?
you can't see why better made films get glorified while badly made films get rightfully shunned.
Just because big dumb and actiony, doesn't mean that all films like that are on a playing level, there are some films that do it better, and some that do it worse. If you honestly can't tell the difference then id check with your doctor to see if you aren't just spontaneously sleeping through the films.

The best part of this re-review was the punchline about the cons of any idiot making books.

Outright classic.
