The Toxic Avenger

You're just one bucket of toxic waste away from greatness.

Watch Video

The Toxic Avenger was the original 99%.

Anyone else find it a little ominous that the hero for today's problems comes from 1984. And that cartoon's theme song is totally kick ass.

Looking forward to next year Movie Bob.

So his mop turned into a scythe?

Cool.

The toxic avenger was Ok, i guess.

He he, squeeze play.

i wanna see this now but where can one find it?

looks... good.

And since you mention the hub, could next weeks episode cover that channel, petty please with a mario game on top?

Can't be any more odd than "Seven Words You Can't Say on Television" George Carlin narrating a toddler's TV show.

The only difference being that in this day and age the people at the top of the US government are trying to help the downtrodden, but are being held back by the greed and apathy of the people...

But yeah, that movie looks pretty good.

this?

Amazon, Play.com, eBay?

Do it though. It's AWESOME, RADICAL and TUBULAR!

Not quite Outrageous though, only Jem is truly outrageous.

Maybe at the very top, but I think there is a lot of the system just trying to maintain the status quo. Movie Bob should do an episode on Yes, Minister, if he wants to talk about shows from the 80s that are still relevant.

I wonder what a super hero to represent today's hot button issues and rage points would look like if Marvel of DC got around to designing one today. Could be interesting, but oh well. Interesting ep, Bob. Definitely make Schloctober an annual thing. Lord knows there's plenty of cult horror movies out there.

Ha I remember bits of the Toxic Crusader cartoon show. If you think it's weird by turning a violent character into a kid shows, how about Freddy Krueger had once appear in this rap video? No he didn't kill anyone in that video.

That'll be the day!

Theres actually a county still doing a trick or treat tonight.

I think Ive actually seen this movie before on IFC. it was pretty good.\

EDIT:

really bob? we need the toxic avenger again? im really hoping in the next few months a news story doesnt pop up about how "the Toxic avenger" is getting a remake.

...
and being directed by michael bay

Sorry video player crashed half way through

I totally called it! Said something afew videos ago about how he should do this one :P

It's so ridiculous though i love the over the top gore, and comedy of it.

"That'd be like if today, someone made a cartoon out of The Human Centipede and put it on the Hub."

FUND I--

...Actually, I think this is one of Moviebob's silly ideas that's best left unrealized.

(I still want that U.S.S. Mountain Dew thing to be a real show, though.)

Ahh the Toxic Avenger... so many good memories! I grew up on Toxie during my grade school years and saw the movie when I was 8 thanks to my formaly cool older brother. Maybe a rebirth of Toxie should be done while shit is still hitting the fan. Come to think of it I grew up on Trauma films.

Gonna miss schlocktober, hope it comes back next year!

The Toxic Avenger, the last I checked, was actually playing on Netflix: Instant Queue if anyone is looking.

And To comment on Bob highlighting Toxie's merchandising, I actually bought a Toxic Avenger comic book from a Garage Sale a few months ago. It's actually quite funny and particularly brilliant. A great end to Schlocktober, indeed.

I used to watch this with my brother. The part where he growls and speaks eloquently simultaneously is hilarious.

"That'd be like if today, someone made a cartoon out of The Human Centipede and put it on the Hub."

Like someone might do with ...Watchmen, say...

Funny how he mention the Hub. As I'm watching this video, I'm watching that channel right now.

I saw The Toxic Avenger years ago on G4TV, and I actually liked it. I need to see if I can watch it again on Netflix since the one I saw had censored.

Is it just me or did the theme tune of that cartoon sound exactly like the old TMNT theme?

Actually there were 4 sequels... A 4th was released a few years back and from what I hear it's real kick ass.

Toxie goes up against a flipside nightmare version of himself called NOXIE.

It's really a fucked up movie, which made it hard for me to enjoy.
Still, a very interesting way to round off Shlocktober (which, I must admit I wasn't a huge fan of). Truly we need such goofy commentary for this day and age.

I watched it a few years, back we were cleaning out my dads old video tapes, and this was one of them, he told me i had to watch it before he threw it out. I am glad i did it was funny chessy and just fun to watch, im thinking there must be a dvd release somewhere i can find. Too amazon!

Oh my god, I REMEMBER Toxic Crusaders. God I'm old...

But yes, we need Toxie now.

Wow, this is a debate waiting to happen, so here it goes.

That is not a true statement. The crony government is helping companies they want to succeed by letting them slip past regulation and propping them up. That is what the bailouts that government you are championing were. Also, a lot of those propped up companies have politicians on the receiving end of money either directly or indirectly. Most companies are responsible for themselves and their employees.

Also, the government allowed all those corrupt institutions that are responsible for the current financial woes to continue on the same course, encouraged them even. All the "Occupy" movements are by and large completely misdirected and a lot of responsible companies are getting caught up in the waves. I don't know what you think they are doing to help the downtrodden. The only thing they can do is extend unemployment. They can't create new jobs or more wealth. All they can do is redistribute an ever shrinking pool of money till there is literally nothing left.

As you champion that same government, they are, by and large, not championing you and I in return. Also, I say all of this with no malice or anger, I'm not interested in a flame war or a yelling match that is going to degrade into simple name calling with not reasonable debate therein.

Edit: Also, the movie is almost downright disturbing. It's a complete anomaly that spawned that cartoon, which I remember fondly. I used to watch the cartoon, then a few years later I saw the movie and I feel completely scarred by it's softcore porn like qualities combined with it's horrendous 70's era gore and special effects.

And an NES game too, as I recall.

Fun episode, Bob. Felt a little rushed towards the end, but that might have just been me wanting more. Now I have got to try to get that Ear Worm of a theme song out of my head.

Look, I'm not saying that this was a bad choice for a "contemporary" superhero, but, right now, I think what people are looking for is less "beat the shit out of them" and more "get them out of power before they can do anymore damage."

In fact, I think the current "hero" we're looking for is probably more in line with V from V for Vendetta or 42 from the Hitman series (check out the bios of his targets: 9/10 they're truly horrible people in power; 1/10 they're trying to take out the few good ones in power you have left). I would say it's actually why series such as Leverage have caught on.

I'm in Boston, and after that big storm over the weekend a lot of places outside the city pushed it back all the way until Friday, considering they have two feet of snow, tons of downed trees and power lines, and possibly no electricity until then. We still have three more days of Schlocktober after this up here. Heh.

uhohimdead:
i wanna see this now but where can one find it?

All four movies are on Hulu for free.

@Baresark

I love how all the wall street people that the OWS people hate would have lost every dollar they had if it weren't for the government. The system was working, the investors made a litany of bad decisions and their companies were going to collapse as a result. What was their punishment? They got balled out by the government.

If the government had swooped in to manage the collapse I would have been open to that, but that's not what they did. Not to mentioned that the government created the bubble in the first place.

P.S.
Bob said "pollution" is at the forefront of American culture. Um... what are you talking about?

Wait...waitwaitwaitwaitwaitWAAAAIT A SECOND.

That scene where he falls out the window. Am I to understand that not only did club asshole harrass, demean, and possibly beat the stuffing out of the guy, but they also forced him to crossdress so they could mock him before they accidentally chucked him out the window?!

......I don't know WHAT happens to those guys in the movie, but I'm sure they deserve every second of it. That shit's not cool, bro. Not one bit.
