I think this may be the funniest one I've seen. I loved how candid it was. Also, as someone who's been following the show, the end debate where they argue that the other person is the better debater was great.

Anime to watch?

Without knowing anything else about taste Cowboy Bebop is probably the best bet. Some people mentioned Trigun, it's the series that hooked me, true, but it hasn't aged well I think.

As for movies, I'd go with Princess Mononoke or the Escaflowne movie (A Girl in Gaea). He's probably already seen Spirited Away, Ghost in the Shell and Akira so those are out up front.

But the real problem is accounting for specific tastes. The Cat Returns is a personal fave of mine but that one's really quirky. Same goes for the madness that is Dead Leaves. It's like asking what soap opera I should watch if you're really not into soap opera (answer: Battlestar Galactica). I did once get a girl who liked anime but wasn't interested in mecha to watch RahXephon and change her opinion.
