Jimquisition: SOPA Approved

SOPA Approved

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) could change the Internet forever if enforced. Having been written in such broad and vague terms, giving corporations maximum power to black out websites, a chilling effect could be seen, as the Internet's content creators become too afraid to risk anything, lest they lose everything.
This week's Jimquisition is speculative fiction, showing a future Jim Sterling who is bound to toil under SOPA's oppressive rule. It's all very conceptual and clever, I think you'll agree.

Watch Video

The last bit was good!
The other parts were ok, i guess...

HE SAID IGN! HE SAID KOTAKU! HE SAID FOX! HE SAID LOST! HE USED MUSIC HE DIDN'T MAKE!! ARREST THAT MAN RIGHT NOW!!!

Thank god for the Jimquisition

"SOPA Approved"!

Don't scare me like that, with this title on the front page, when not true....

Edit: for shame US gov, making it so people have nothing better to do than go outside. How do you sleep at night....

It was like watching a one man podoid for a bit there.

And here I was worried that the jimquisition would be affected by this law.

I would seriously watch this every week. It's like that movie Network met I dunno.....Equilibrium?

Very good episode and point well made.

And thanks again for convincing me to buy deadly premonition

That was pretty funny. I honestly hope that thing doesnt get passed... god it would suck

I had a brief moment of panic too.

Oh by the way, Jim? Re your heavy breathing around 1:30 - George Lucas' lawyers would like a word...

Too bad I couldn't watch this SOPA approved video because The Escapist got shut down due to too many people having copyrighted images like game characters or ponies as avatars. DAMN YOU SOPA!!! :(

We should just take everyone who votes for SOPA and make them unelectable by claiming they're gay atheists who support Justin Biender... :P

SOPA has begun to seriously depress me, as has the parody of democracy U.S. Congress and entire system of voting, campaigning and lobbying has become.

Its like watching a load of bundering retards talk very measuredly about how they need to dip their heads in lava. On the surface the idea seems pretty reasonable but the Consolodated Magma and Lava lobby has assured them that lava only burns people when they deserve it and isn't as hot as they think.

Now they don't really know what lava is per say but they are assured by some very big companies this is the right way to go to stop their headaches; Ordinary people and experts may be screaming from the rooftops but they obviously don't understand the issue at hand. "Headaches are a big issue and drastic measures have to be taken" they are told; sure it may LOOK a bit drastic but safeguards are in palce. We are assured they are in place.

Everyone but congress can see that it is uttery insanity. They are the least suited people in america to pass legislation.

Its nice to see someone with a passion for something that isnt related to the xfactor or shows about dancing.

Im with ya Jim, the outside is cold.......for now....it gets better next season, trust me.

What was Jim thinking going outside, he should've known it was too dangerous out there. I for one like staying in my little dark shack with one outlet used solely for my computer and router.

Sons of the Patriots Act. La li lu le lo approved. every time i see that i think of Metal Gear.

DUDE, CHANGE THE TITLE! Jesus, nearly gave me a fucking heart attack.

One question on this whole thing. How does it affect sites etc outside of the US. I.e not a .com that US authorities think they own, wherever hosted, but .co.uk 's etc. I feel very sorry for people in the US if this is approved. I also understand that there will be an initial effect since most web content comes from the US. But if say Jim moves him, his show and it's hosting back to his native UK (from the accent), won't the show be back to normal?

If the US gov wants to turn the US into the Internet version of North Korean, then fine. I just don't see where 'this will kill the whole Internet' comes from. There are other countries in the world out there you know, where this legislation will not reach. Escapistmagazine.co.uk, youtube.co.uk FTW?

"It's a bit like that game Homefront, except, you know, not totally shit". Hahaha only watched 10 seconds and loving it already. Had to pause and write that.

A lot of the audience from sites like the Escapist are American. If Americans can't enter these sites, they lose a lot of money and may have to shut down, even if they're not based in the US.

OK, so the US as a consumer market gets lost. I understand it is the biggest market. I just am not seeing the 'this will kill the whole internet'. That statement is a bit US centric, to me.

I wonder if you can make a link between Monopoly and SOPA.....

It depresses me that the internet will be destroyed if SOPA passes. Hopefully Obama keeps his promise and vetos the bill.

People are worried that Europe and the rest of the world will follow suit with similar legislation of its own if this works in the US. Also considering how much business is connected internationally, non american sites/businesses would be at risk of losing their US customers by breaching an American copyright even though its legal in their native country

Wow, this is the first Jimquisition I haven't been able to watch the entire way through since shortly after his debut...

SOPA CAN'T HAPPEN.

Look up de-SOPA. Yeah I know it'll still kill audiences, but if you get the word out it should help.

That was brill Jim keep up the good work. Sailor Jerry is a delightful bevvy to get drunk on, next time you need some medicine. :)

It can pass even if vetoed. Checks and balances are a go.

Anyway, anyone mind pointing out where SOPA ends Fair Use? 'Cause...it doesn't.

Great point this week, Jim! High concept video art really is boring, shallow and pointless, isn't it?

Sometimes I wonder if Jim gets ulcers if he's too funny so he has to step back and do crap like this about every other week to even it all out.

Chilling, truly chilling.

The title terrified me, the content shocked me. Please don't let SOPA happen.

Wouldn't this video still be blocked for the music used in the titles?

I'm sorry Jim, but you used music in your video, so we're gonna have to remove you and everything you've ever done from the site. Have a nice life!

I just can't understand how this bill could even exist. Hasn't the person phrasing it got a brain? I get why something like it could exist and the reason for it, but the way it is currently? Who could have possibly signed that?

And while that title is utterly terrifying, it serves its purpose and I don't agree that it should change.

Jim, you scared the shit out of me. I read the video header before I got to watch the video and you made me think that SOPA had already passed. Don't do that to me mang. XD

I guessed this was another joke episode and lo and behold, it was basically the same as the blackout and Skyrim episodes. It's a really laboured joke now and an excuse to be lazy...
