Chronicle

Could this be another super-hero franchise?

Watch Video

Well as Liam Neeson isn't in this one, I'll trust you to be objective this week.

Glad to see a film were the found footage angle actually works. I have to say I'd be rooting for the bullied kid to, but I wish someone would make a movie where someone who got superpowers actually tried to change things WITHOUT becoming a true villain (as opposed to a superhero who just maintains the status quo) Just please don't let it be black guy that dies first.

Also GO PATS!

I will say that I agree with Bob. I don't paticularly like those shakycam shots in any movie, and it is well phrased that most of them would probably be better without it. But, might give tis one a watch.

Bob. You're 30. You were bullied when you were a kid.

Get over it. The rest of us "victims" already have. It's time you join us.

Wasn't very interested in this one, but my curiosity has been piqued... might change my movie choice for the weekend...

Also, side question to bob: How was Woman In Black? (assuming they let you see it)

When he started speaking badly of the found footage style I thought he would bash this movie to high heaven, but now I want to see it. Comparisons to Akira and Dragon Ball Z always convince me.

He's a Pats fan; what do you expect?

Also, it's fucking ON now, Bob.

GO GIANTS!

Wow, I hadn't even heard of this movie before, now I'm really interested. Could have done without all the spoilers, but definitely got me interested. Now the only question is, how many months before it hit Swedish theatres, if at all?

A Candy Land movie...

...starring Adam Sandler...

*pauses*

So where's the third godawful element of this? These things come in three, ya know. Lemme guess...bad director like Uwe Boll?

Ugh, I hate found footage movies. They always make me queasy.

Speak for yourself.

Haven't seen this one yet, but I will. I did however, finally buy Super after seeing a pretty enthusiast recommendation from Movie Bob regarding that movie. I really enjoyed it.

Hopefully Movie Bob, will have time to chime in on the upcoming prequel for the Watchmen. With one of his "Comics are Weird" segments. Perhaps entitled who's more greedy Fanboys or Publishers?

Seems like there are a lot of these films coming out at the moment. Twilight, I am Number 4, this and soon the Akira remake. It's like the youth of today got issues with reality or something.

Nah, Michael Bay is picking it up. It's going to be Candyland with explosions, tanks, and Adam Sandler yelling a lot.

Ready to be crushed by the Giants again, Bob?

And this film sounds interesting. The fact that you're worried that the Avengers can't top it is a bit surprising. I'll see if I can't drag some family members to see it with me.

Also...

...and which one will die to raise the stakes.

It's the black guy, right?

The candyland thing reminds me of Osmosis Jones for the 'what were they smoking, and where can I get some?'. So I'm not going to dismiss it out of hand.
Like I do for most recent Sandler films.

Of course you can also say that emotional scars like that never really go away. Perhaps it did for you. If that is what happened then good for you. Personally, my scars didn't go away so easily. Bottom line is though, you cannot judge someone's own pain because you may have had similar. We are all different.

Back on topic of the movie.... I thought it was going to be really bad just from watching the trailer as I have hated every "found footage" movie I have seen. But then again most of them do not have telekinetic super powers. I might give it a shot just to see the action sequence described.

Bob, you continue with this terrible Magneto complex and you like the patriots? I have never been so disappointed in my life. I hate the patriots.

I was picked on as a kid. A lot.
But my super-power fantasies tended to go the Spider-Man route;
if I had power like that, I would help people, even the bullies, when they got in trouble, because I was better than them and would not sink to their level.
And then they would feel bad.

Anyway, I tend to hate the 'found footage' thing. In movies, anyway. I like it in video-games, and I guess in general as a part of the narrative, where you find pieces of documentation and shot video footage to piece together what was going on, but I like to see the character who is piecing it together.

Because kinda all of these 'found footage' things have that character who is usually not seen, the person who has collected it and edited it.
Within the narrative there's the person who is trying to get a message across here.

And usually it's totally ignored.

Also I hate shaky camera and the way these kinds of movies often don't seem to really tell stories.

The only 'found footage' thing that I liked was Trolljegeren, and that was because it was shot like a documentary. And it fit well to the style and humor.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to go see this thing. Thanks, Bob.

Speak for yourself. That shit has never left me, and probably never will.

To quote Captain Kirk,
"You know that pain and guilt can't be taken away with a wave of a magic wand. They're the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don't want my pain taken away! I need my pain!"

OT: Sweet. I was really hoping this movie would be good.
I know what I'm doing for my birthday on Sunday!

I kind of love you.

It seems the video link is going to a 404 error. Glad I caught it beforehand.

You just had to bring up Candy Land, I was in such a good place forgetting about that travesty.

There was an odd caching issue, should be fixed now. :)

Thank heaven. I was hoping you would review this one. The trailers had me wondering about whether it was going to be terrible or awesome, and you have yet to steer me wrong. I'll be there this weekend :)

Just to pop in here, there is a difference here between being hurt and suffering scars and actively seeking to continue perpetuating this victim mentality where you are a poor guy and everything you see always comes down to a victim-bully paradigm.

I agree with Bob that I hate the found footage gimmick. However I might give this movie a whirl.

tha saidd I must of been a weird nerdy kid in that though I do have the superpowered fantasy more and more they began to take the form of leading normal people to stop a superpowered aggressor, to work together with others and overcome a monster.

I had the exact same though. That trope is one of my biggest pet peeves. I'll still make time for this movie though.

I cannot wait to see this movie. I haven't wanted to see a movie this bad since Warrior came out, back in SEPTEMBER. Trailers look cool. The honesty is worthy of praise (the fact that when teenagers get super powers, they don't automatically decide to save the world, but instead decide to dick around with them). And now, all movie reviewers that I respect are throwing roses at its feet. It's like icing on the cake!

1. I really want to see this movie now.
2. I'm still pissed at the Patriots for beating my Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl years back, ergo screw those guys and in particular Tom Brady, let's go Giants.
3. Adam Sandler, you might want to lay off the drugs, man. Because really, a Candy Land movie?

This kind of makes me want to see it.

Though I've heard they've got Robert Smigel (Triumph the Insult Dog and The Ambiguously Gay Duo) to work on the script.

Knowing my karma...that might actually be close to the truth, although not as awesome as MrDeckard depicts.

Also I was on the fence about seeing this, and now I plan to go. Thanks

Was spoiling that part of the movie really important to your piece Bob?

sigh

I'll still see the movie I guess.

Look, when I was a kid, I was bullied so bad I had to be home schooled for the rest of my schooling years. I was ten. But I don't let it rule my life making up petty revenge fantasies and constantly talking about it like Bob does. I'm 21, and I've moved past it. Maybe you guys haven't. I don't know how old you all are, but when you're 30 years old, are you seriously going to still have it hanging over you like Bob does? I mean, really?
