which one is charles? Good strip, if a little sadistic...

Yo' that Earth Mother Gaia's one down ass Bitch son!

There's bears and there's teddies.

And teddies have got to go.

A bear's gotta do
what a bear's gotta do
Don't smack the kid
If you can't follow through

All that matters
Taking matters into your own claws
Soon I will control everything[1]
My wish is your command

[1] by virtue of being a BEAR

So, domestic abuse is funny now? Sorry, I know, I'm being oversensitive. But this one just didn't sit well with me somehow...

Comedians are always skirting that line between what is funny and what is offensive, which is difficult because that varies from person to person. I've seen people get offended over a rape joke about rapeseed oil because of their personal experiences, even though it was between two fictionalized seeds.
In this case, I don't think that there is too much to be offended about, since it is an absurd situation with an obvious joke attached and doesn't contain anything graphically offensive. Still, you certainly have the right to be upset with it, and you might want to write to the creator of the comic strip.

Or, you know, they could just get over it.

If a person doesn't like a joke, that's fine, but it's not like this joke is over the top or anything, and I certainly wouldn't think it was worth bothering the creators about.

Hell, he didn't even draw blood, what kind of slap worth slapping doesn't draw blood?

Amateur.

Hehe, is it wrong that I thought that the Magic: The Gathering in-joke was the best part?

Clearly, further proof that good old-fashioned Grizzly Bears are superior to Runeclaw Bears.

I'm not upset. I'm not offended. I just don't find the comic funny, mostly due to the subject matter and I posted in the thread dedicated to commenting on the comic to let the comic creator know that I for one did not enjoy this particular strip. I really don't see a problem here...

I had honestly forgotten there was a bear in this comic.

So I'm guess there aren't a lot of bears named Theodore.

For a minute, I was confused. Then I remembered Erin's co-workers.

What's is Charles problem with Teddy Roosevelt? What did he ever do to him?
For that matter, what ever happened to Penny?

Also, bearsploitation.

Also, now I'm reminded that Naughty Bear existed. Forgot about that game.

Considering how they made it look, with the child crying from the slap and the fathers "I will literally murder you" look, I don't think they were trying to imply it is a good/funny thing

Charles is a Republican and Penny is a tea party candidate in Georgia. Being obsessed and scary is no hindrance in the tea party, in fact it helps.

I was missing Charles...

In the words of a popular rage face...

Y U NO BRING CHARLES BACK!?

That ghetto bear looks like Scumbag Steve.

Yay! Charles is back! :D

...I think?

Geo Da Sponge:
Hehe, is it wrong that I thought that the Magic: The Gathering in-joke was the best part?

Nope. And to this day, I still wonder why they replaced Grizzly Bears with Runeclaw Bear.

Think Charles and his family as african american and the word "Teddy" as "Nigger". Then the strip will make sense.

I really don't think an explanation was necessary.

It's pretty obvious.

I wonder whether Charles may be related to Skyrim Bears. He certainly slaps his kid around like one.

Thanks for that, Captain Obvious.
Sorry if this comes across as rude, but your post was fairly patronising.

A pacifist who uses corporal punishment? Makes sense.

Geo Da Sponge:
Hehe, is it wrong that I thought that the Magic: The Gathering in-joke was the best part?

Nope, I thought it was fantastic. Also, let's all be honest. Papa grizzly is the superior murder machine.

Dont know why but I really liked this one. Guess its just my slightly sick sense of humor.

Irridium:

Is it just me, or is Erin sporting some rather fabulous sideburns in that?

Blind Sight:

I assumed that Charles was the young bear on the receiving end of the slap.

Daystar Clarion:

Hahahahahahaha :D

Oh man, this strip is just a barrel of laughs. I'm glad there is no one home, I laughed like an idiot.

Since the strip is called roots, that what i assumed as well

sorry to admit.... I needed it.. I read this comic and just kinda sat thinking "wtf?"

uhh... thanks for the clarification....?

Best part of the whole strip is "The Allegory of The Cave Bear"

I didn't get it, and I'm glad he explained it.
