I was curious to see if Bob'd be any comparison to other fairy-tale-with-a-dark-twist movies like the Sigourney Weaver TV Movie or The Company of Wolves whose selling points are less the complexity of the lead heroine and more of the trials surrounding her: a woman's allegorical coming-of-age story with an everywoman in the lead encountering symbolic obstacles on her journey to womanhood. I'm tempted to see it soley for the visuals, but I'd be lying if I said I'll follow through with the temptation. Ultimately, I'm going to pass this until DVD, but it looks beautiful.
I'm gonna have to commit that to memory, because it is the best assessment of Kristen Stewart I've seen yet. Anyway, I'm probably not going to see this movie. I don't think one actor is a good enough reason to watch something.
A shame to see this movie's potential squandered and wasted. I was rather hoping it would be above average, but instead we get Disney Princess meets elements of Twilight/Hunger Games. I might wait until Netflix to watch this. After all, one of the Avengers is in this movie.
...So in other words, Charlize Theron is to this movie what Alan Rickman was to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves?
Dude. I'm not talking about her acting as I've never seen it. I'm just going by the vapid, emotionless stares I've seen in pretty much all of her head shots. That look is the same generic hollywood look that a lot of actresses have.
Was totally expecting Iron Sky review.
That shot at 4:30 couldn't be more Lord of the Rings... The Nine Companions!...pfft.
This film would have been better if they had cast someone better than Kristen Stewart as Snow White. Otherwise, this did look like it could have been quite a cool reinvention of a fairy tale for a modern audience. Personally, Rachel McAdams would have been a good Snow White. I mean, she pulled off the teen look for Mean Girls, why not for Snow White?
The movie LOOKS very good, too bad im not the least interested in the story and/or kirsten stewart.
Do you honestly thing a guy who has a choice between Natalie Portman and Jaimie Alexander is going to give Kristen Stewart a second glance?
Bob I wouldn't put in pure speculation and whatnot into the shows but that's me. Great joke at the end though, very funny.
I first heard about this movie a couple of months ago, and when I asked who was in it and what it was about, what I basically heard was that this was a movie about Kristen Stewart supposedly being hotter than Charlize Theron ...my only reply was "So it IS a fantasy movie." Also, I know this is late (and also totally pointless) but I saw Mirror Mirror the other day at the discount theatre. I know you only did a quick review of that, but I actually thought it was okay. It didn't light the world on fire, but it was a pretty funny little flick and one of the better live action kid's movies I'd seen in a long time. No matter, I'll probably be passing on this film. Thanks for the review though.
You don't have a fetish for that? I am shocked.
Well she was actually good in Zathura way back before all the Twilight nonsense. On the other hand I wouldn't mind seeing Charlize Theron play Rita Repulsa. Incidentally, I want a Tanooki Mario action figure. I never got one 23 years ago!
The main thing that confused me when I saw the trailer was the whole armies, monsters, battle business. I guess that's where the Joan d'Arc/rebels thing comes in Bob mentioned?
If this movie ditched the snow white BS and was just about Charlize Theron as a wicked sorceress queen whose vanity and hubris leads to her downfall, it would probably be much better received as a whole. Hell, I might even be tempted to go watch it. As for Kristen Stewart, the girl has a career because of her lack of acting talent. She is just there as a stand-in for any female patron. And she is absolutely fantastic at making herself just the right amount of a non-entity to cause said patrons to picture themselves in her role.
Sounds like you're in a little over your head here Bob. You never seem to know what to say when it comes to movies not aimed at guys, and what you do say at times comes off as partially but not exactly offensive, especially when comparing the material to the perceived nature of the "intended audience". It's a little unsettling. Make like Doug Walker and get you an Nchick for point of reference on these things.
Thor is a viking god. They are frat boys with super powers that love to party and frolic. Who knows, maybe after 5 rounds of whatever it takes to get a Thor drunk, five 50 gallon barrels of Utiopias maybe, Kristen Stewart might become desirable. He would not be interested in her mind, he'd have Natalie Portman and the other one for that.
Well you in the US can enjoy this I'm going to see Prometheus in 22 minutes :)
What nothing to say about "Piranha 3DD". :)
I feel more than a little sorry for Stewart. First she stuck with a role that is Emperor Palpatine as a saint. Then she gets stuck in a clone of that role. Also this is why I would LOVE to get a job on the technical side of movies. I would pay money to hear Hensworth's reactions to being in this movie on the set.
Actually bob, this would be the 3rd snow white film. You're forgetting The Asylum's "GRIMM'S SNOW WHITE."
Common consensus is that 3DD is just plain boring.
Damn you lucky foreigners! (shakes fist impotently) I guess it could be worse: I traded seeing this with the wifey (she's a huge Charlize Theron fan) for her seeing Prometheus with me next week. Nice to hear Ms. Theron does not disappoint at least.
When I first saw the Twilight films, I thought Kirsten Stewart had a lot of potential, that it was just the rubbish she was working with that kept her back. Now, I see it was a perfect match of rubbish material and useless actress. Nice to hear Charlize Theron still knows what she's doing, though.
Team Hulk surprise! | |
next time there's a slow week and you got nothing for your second credit bump im sure we wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter
I have no idea how he even came up with that. Genius.
If Charlize Theron's screams out "I'll cut your heart out with a spoon!" I'm going to this movie.
So in otherwords it's an airhead chick flick. Oh well I'll catch it on TV in 14 months.
Meh looks like something I can enjoy, if mostly for the action.
Damn I really wanted to see this ... and I will - afterall it doesn't sound like a total mess?! Just needa find a movie theater close-by which presents this in English because ... ehm this time the german synchro sucks balls (especially - and sadly - the queen sounds the worst).
Really, the whole team thing is just using a word to qualify a side. Stuff like this in fandoms didn't just start happening in the last few years. I mean look at the old squabbles about who's the best captain in the Star Trek franchise. If that had developed during this day and age, we would have Team Kirk and Team Picard. Yes, there weren't "teams" back in the day, but there were of course "sides" as in most fandoms. All it is is changing one word. It has a different name but it is the same old tune with fans.
Every time I hear about this movie, I think about the little commercial interview where the blond chick says how "fantastical the movie is" and it makes me cringe.
What a shame, it looked kind of interesting from the trailers, I was sort of hoping for it to be a surprise hit.
It's not just you, I'm starting to worry for him :S

I think they also figured out the villain was the only good thing in the entire movie, since all the marketing is either focussed on her, or the WE HAVE AN AVENGER.
Although, when your lead girl has an emotional range of an unpainted wall, that can be forgivable.
