Assassin's Creed III: E3 Official Trailer

Connor must have flunked Subtlety 101 at Assassin's College.

Oh, fuck off, that what just stupid.

Hey guys, remember when Assassins would use social stealth to take out a target because charging head on into an army of bad guys would mean certain death?

I'll admit, I've never really liked scenes where one person takes on a whole bunch of people and wins, especially when they escape completely unscathed.

Daystar Clarion:

Hey guys, remember when Assassin would use social stealth to take out a target because charging head on into an army of bad guys would be certain death?

I thought Assassins always assassinated people by spamming counter-attack on everything in sight in one massive mob fight? That's what I always di-.. wait..

I don't think Conner flunked Subtlety 101. I think he was kicked out with a mallet to the ass for trying to massacre entire english settlements in open daylight.. because he could, I guess?

Huh, i swore the series was called Assassin's Creed, not Ninja's creed.

BlindWorg:

Not even ninjas take on armies.

More like Assassin May Cry.

Tshk tshk gramps. What's next? complaining how back in your day you had to sneak uphill both ways?

In the snow!

On a Sunday!

Also, the snow was worse than the snow of today.

Yes, yes, it's all good. Now go back to your blanket, and your plans to assassinate that evil head nurse. I mean, the way she wields that clipboard she must be a templar, right?

*Mumble*

Stupid assassins...

Back in my die...

Use actual stealth.

I thought it looked awesome. He will probably be a little more subtle in the game. I don't understand how so many british missed 1 man though. They must have the aiming skills of storm troopers. No wonder we were able to break off.

Why do I sense the feeling that Mel Gibson had a hand in writing/directing this one?

Its also nice to see that the whole "one American (with maybe a few friends) can win a war all by himself" mentality is still alive beyond old John Wayne movies. I SERIOUSLY hope theres a huge twist at the end of this installment.

Remember when the devs said that that the game would be more neutral in terms of politics?

Have we actually seen a trailer where Connor isn't slaughtering the British?

I'm sure they'll have on for the Next British Major Game Show.

Am I the only one who kept thinking that the rebel leader dude with the eyeglass was going to brush aside his coat to reveal his templar cross, before gulping or similar?

I don't think we have to be honest. Which is why I'm hoping there is a twist somewhere (betrayal/falls in love/realizes what hes doing was a set up), you know, the usual cliches.

I don't mind the British being bad guys, I just wish it was less...

American, about it all.

I mean an eagle? Seriously :D

By "rebel leader dude", I presume you're referring to GEORGE MOTHERF**KING WASHINGTON?!?!
Who I believe was established in AC lore as a Templar.

My guess is that a lot of the previews will make this seem like a USA vs. UK game, so as not to confuse those who would jump on the controversy wagon.

Nice to see one of my ancestors portrayed with at least positive ambiguity for once...and it's nice that the Tomahawk/bowie knife fighting was accurate for the cut scene.

Yeah, that was about the time I started cracking up. And since the eagle was the very first shot, it made hard not to keep going, "America: FUCK YEAH!" in the background.

On the plus side, kudos to them for not using the usual red-tail hawk sounds for the eagle.

Daystar Clarion:

Well arguably the series can hide behind some precedent with the eagle.

Urgh. I really can't figure out what to make of this. One one had, I'm glad that the series is climbing out of the Ezio pit but on the other something about this trailer just seems... off. First of all, that was no assassin. That was a bloody tank.

I know what you mean, but in this particular trailer, it just comes across really cliched :D

Mmm...nope, definately a Ninja. Half-demons dont evade bullets, they just shoot them straight out of the air =S

Oh come on.
The whole AMERICA vibe I'm getting from this game is getting worse and worse.
All he's done is kill Red Coats. Why not the Americans, I thought Conner was meant to be impartial to war, hell he's even half English.
If the Eagle wasn't already embedded heavily in the mythos that would make me rage even further, surprised it didn't land on Washington's shoulder and shed a fucking tear.

The last gameplay trailer was sick though and I love me some Assassin's Creed so naturally I'm buying this anyway.

Huh, that was George Washington?

Interesting, I always thought he was more impressive in presence/more regal then that but thats not important. They really should have shown the cross, in order to make it more Ambiguous/tempt more non Americans into buying it.

Because really, the reaction of most of my friends (who loved the first five) has been 'too much patriotism, not interested'.

Still not hyped for this game, more game play and less Team America would be nice.

Also, does anyone know if we'll see any native Americans, French or Germans in this game? They were there too you know.

If the whole "British are Evil" thing is played straight the entire game, then I swear to god Ubisoft will never have another penny of my money.

More moral ambiguity please.

This game is obviously tailored for Americans, with the whole, you're with George Washington/fighting for freedom thing. I'm saying this as a US citizen myself.

Take that however you may =/

Well, you all can think what you want, but this will be the first time I will play assassins creed on language that fits the location and that I can understand.

Considering Washington is a Templar, i doubt you will be killing the British throughout the game.

I'm guessing he saw how badly they were losing and decided to...urm...help (well win it for them but yeh you know what i mean) He probably doesn't know Washington is a Templar yet.

But still, the Assassins Creed games have always been good in my opinion, so i'm looking forward to it, it was only a cinematic trailer after all, i thought we didn't take them so seriously and waited for the Gameplay trailers ;)

And which Assassins Creed was that? I've played them all and dying was usually pretty easy to avoid. Sure, you could sneak up close and make a perfect kill but nothing ever really stopped you from charging headlong into the enemy and take out dozens of men with little more than a pocketknife.

Holding block and waiting to press counter attack has no limits.

That's the joke.

Sure, in the original AC, you could still take on armies of bad guys, but at least the trailers made it look like Altair was at least trying to be sneaky.

Now, it's just one dude charging headlong into a wave of infantrymen, and that's just silly.

The Assassin's Creed 2 trailer was the stealthiest of them all. Looks like they're taking the cinematics in a more retarded direction with looser and looser regard for the "history as it really was" part of their series concept.

I mean, I thought the Revelations trailer was stupid as all hell in that respect; but come on, at least Ezio wasn't charging/fighting an army line of guns.... and at least he still fucking lost.

.... also, the racial features of both their new protagonists look far too dilluted.

im still looking forward to this game but i still hope there is some stealth involved in this. sure looked nice in this trailer and its clear to see that the movie "the patriot" is an inspiration but yeah, charging alone against an army was not very assassins like.

Meh, oddly, I can actually see that particular strategy working quite well. Revolutionary War era muskets were notoriously inaccurate - shot a few of them myself and it's difficult to even hit a target, much less hit it with any accuracy. The typical firearms training back then, as far as aiming goes, consisted of "point in general direction of large mass of enemies and fire away", which was effective for the time and tactics used, but that's also a good portion of the reason the Americans, once they started using more guerrilla warfare, were able to win battles. It's also why the invention of the Kentucky longrifle changed so much during the war; the rifling in the barrel made the gun significantly more accurate than the traditional musket, allowing American snipers to pick off English officers with relative ease (by which I mean they were still incredibly inaccurate).

In this case, it's not surprising he was able to avoid the first volley via his horse and luck, avoid the second with the well-placed rock, and then once he got in close... Well, four foot long musket/bayonet combinations are closer to spear length than sword length, but also quite a bit heavier and more difficult to wield effectively. Against a skilled melee fighter they wouldn't stand any sort of chance.

So while yes, he was lucky as shit, and probably could've killed his target with a well-placed arrow while hidden from sight, his actions there were definitely plausible (if still lucky) and weren't a bad tactic for the time period. That said, I also wish we could see some more neutrality in the war. Being American myself, I tend to subscribe to the philosophy that fighting for our freedom is a good thing and we were on the side of "right", but that doesn't change Connor's motivations or the direction I thought the game would be taking. Marketing it as Patriot Porn will only go so far.
