Ugh, I hate it when people are like that.
"God, you're such a jerk."
"Yup, sure am."

Pretty interested in seeing how she turns out at the end of this arc, and whether it's for the better or not.

:P Kinda saw this one coming...not specifcially this situation, but seeing how things turned out over at her friend's house when she was tossed out on her ass (and the description given as to why all of Erin's own relationships fail), as soon as Shining Armor stepped on the seen I figured something like this would happen.

That was just reading padding but with little doodles drawn all over the padding. <.<

I got excited when I saw the new comic title and started looking for a Shadowrun reference in the comic... I was disappointed. :P

Oh dear. Erin is really getting near a very dark place, and once she gets there I doubt she will get out.

The hard truth is that while Tris is a nice influence for her, if she doesn't actively try to save herself, no one can keep her from going over the edge, and that will suck.

Like I said before, hope ya make good choices. Good luck!

Funny :D
Nothing can beat up classical situation with psycho girlfriend

She's the less likeable or sympathetic character ever. Usually when a main character is a jerk, you counter it by making him/her likeable in some manner. Not Eerin. If she was a real person I would punch her in the face so much.

Can we stop with this romantic-comedy-with-the-most-annoying-protagonist-ever thing, and proceed with the videogame humour?

anybody else notice the guys jawline actually comes to a point human Jaws don't work that way ahah the guy is a alcholl induced illusion and is actually an elf makes more sense than the guys jaw being like that

poiumty:
And then they had angry make-up sex.

lol, that'd be funny if that happened, but, not seeing it at this point

Slowly starting to hate erin...alot.

This story arc is kinda interesting but I haven't really found it all that funny. I miss when this was just a comedy web strip. Maybe if the story went a little faster it wouldn't feel so slow.

poiumty:
And then they had angry make-up sex.

Oh, youuu :3

on topic: Erin's personality is becoming more and more 'unique'. Also, I like the direction this is going. Much better than 'typical' hot guy comes in and courts damsel in distress. This is much more fu*ked up >_<

Wow. Erin is officially a vile bitch with no redeeming value. Can we please wrap up this story line with Erin being murdered by all the people who are sick of her bullshit, and then continue the strip by focusing on different, actually LIKEABLE characters?

UnderGlass:
Wow, people do have high standards. I guess that implies people really cared about her character in the first place though.

Loving this story arc personally. Erin's been through a lot and has become disassociated from reality and her social ties. She seems incredibly lonely to me. I don't know if they'll take it that far but this sort of thing is literally a psychosis. I think she needs someone to help pull her back to reality and show her the things she does have a real impact on the people she cares for and the world around her.

Can't wait to see what happens. Keep them coming!

I agree. I get how people complain that she's becoming more of a jerk, but that's how character development works: they overcome their problems in the end, on their own or with others' help.

Can all you whiners please shut the hell up? 2 whole pages of "Waaaahhh, quit making Erin do and say things I don't like!/I hate this story arc!"

How about this? You go draw and write your own webcomic. I'm glad you don't want to read this anymore. Fuck off. Go back to reading comics with comfortable routines and no character development and generic videogame-related punchlines.

This is actually really interesting.
Been some time since Ive been genuinely curious how a story arc in a webcomic is resolved.
(Though I admit, its in part because there are just so many ways this could end really badly for both Erin and the comic in its entirety)

Also, Im a bit confused, not by the comic itself, but by Greys post
"On doing the wrong thing for the right reasons."
What, in this case, is "the wrong thing" and what are "the right reasons" ?
Suggestions ?

Captcha: Think hard
Im feeling vaguely mocked....

I think that's the problem. If you have to alternate the comic arc with unrelated comedic interludes every other strip, I see that as an admission that you don't find your own story all that funny. This arc has gone on for ages now, and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I use the term "Arc" loosely, as they typically have progression and an end game. There is none of that here - just lots of indulgent, meandering wangst. It's not funny and not interesting.

Well aren't you precious. You're suggesting that we shouldn't complain when a webcomic we like declines in quality. You might be happy with how it is going, unlike us complainers, but that is no excuse to pontificate.

Interesting turn of events, can't wait to see what happens next!

Urgh76:
Welp, this isn't turning out like she hoped.

....

Or is it?

I hope not, 'cause that'd be entirely NEW levels of "broken inside" for the poor girl.

Aren't you. I'm suggesting you don't waste your breath talking about how this comic has declined after reading it. It's experimenting with darker themes and making strips episodic. That's hardly declining. If anything, that proves it's style is maturing.

If I'm spouting dogma, then you're screeching mindless criticism.

You're complaining about a caricaturized art style on a webcomic?

Cerebus syndrome is not always a good thing. Yes, it can be a sign of "maturing" if done right, but a lot of comic authors don't have the ability to pull it off, and it ends up melodramatic and silly. See: the miscarriage arc in Ctrl+Alt+Del. I don't blame people for seeing the signs of Cerebus syndrome and jumping ship.

Anyways, you're entitled to your opinion about the change of tone, but so are other people, so telling people to "shut the hell up" because they're voicing their opinions on a public forum--a place that is made for voicing your opinions-- just because you disagree with them is silly.

OT: Erin seems like she's getting back to her roots to me. She was kind of a dick when the comic started, then became less so, and now she's a dick again. But yeah, I'm glad random guy decided to grow a spine and stop letting her walk all over him with her bs. This arc is moving a little slow though. I'm less interested in what's gonna happen between them, and more in why random guy lives in a bare apartment.

It isn't wasted breath. If writers take the time to read through the feedback (and all writers do), they may acknowledge common criticisms and adjust their output accordingly. Darker and episodic is all well and good when it is all well and good. They aren't on this occasion because the pacing is poor, the tone is off, and the drama seems too flat to make up for the sparse humour.

Wasn't this webcomic supposed to be funny? And not be a drama-infested crapfest?

Well if you don't like it, don't read it.

On another note, his reaction wasn't what I was expecting.

I guess this comic isn't going back to being video game related and with some humor? No? Going to continue being this drama garbage?

:O I like. Psycho GF is interessting and i cant see, where Erin isnt herself. Right now she sees everything very positive and mocks the shiny, shiny knight. I hope other 0815-Rescue-Charakters get served too. Well more VG-References would be nice.
I dont think, this arc is so dark anymore. At the momement our shiny knight entered the scene, there were so many details, which made the "dark arc" over the top.

"I want you to hit him, as hard as you can."

Narrator: Let me tell you a little something about Erin Stout.

I re-read this arc, and I just concurrently think about Fight Club, and it totally works for me. Except, instead of trying to bang Helena Bonham Carter, she's trying to become a video game character, or enact videogame actions and morality in reality. So, you know, better.

The only right reason there's ever been: for the girl.

It certainly isn't. I listen to criticism, but understand that I receive tons of often contradictory suggestions. The pacing issue is difficult to judge from my end, since I see the series chapter by chapter rather than strip by strip, but I'm looking into it.

I'm just saying, I don't like AT ALL when a webcomic shifts from comedy to drama. You want to make drama? Then make a comic that starts with drama. For example, if I go to the movies to see a wacky comedy, I don't expect it to turn into a tragedy tale of loss and sufference half-way through the plot. A comic/movie/anything is not like reality, where there isn't just a single tone through all the "story". A narration is a narration.

On top of that, there's the issue of what an annoying protagonist Erin is. Again, a comic strip isn't like reality. You CAN'T make a protagonist that is 100% irritating and unsympathetic. People like that may exist in real life (and chances are you don't want anything to do with them), but that doesn't mean they're a fitting protagonist. A reader needs to feel at least a bit of empathy with the main character; that's like Storytelling 101.

Erin can be kind of a jerk, it was definitely part of her charm. But now she's just a complete bitch.

So, two big issues making this comic like crap in my opinion:

1) shift from comedy to drama,

2) completely unlikeable protagonist.

And yes, I'm taking the time to comment here because I'm displeased by how this promising webcomic is turning into a drama trainwreck. I LOVED the clever humour of certain comic strips. That's why I wish it still was a good comic.

Author of this webcomic, you want a drama story? Go start ANOTHER webcomic and fill it will all the drama you like.

When did this turn into the webcomic equivalent of '2 broke girls'?

Chuck in a bit of casual racism (realistically, don't see it happening thankfully) and you're there, a lead character with witty (assuming that 'witty' is the same as 'dickish') remarks is already in place after all.

Big +1, seriously at least this webcomic has a PLOT, and character development. Go read others if you just want video game jokes. And stop bitching, nobody wants to read your QQ ing except yourself.

Wow, by your attitude, I stand corrected. There ARE people who can identify with how Erin acts in this comic strip.

On a side note: if the author didn't want people complain about lack of video game jokes, then perhaps this comic shouldn't have started as a comic about videogame jokes.

Big difference between receiving constructive criticism and listening to someone be a little bitch because they have no creative control over what's not theirs. Yahtzee was right: Fans ARE whiny, clingy, complaining dipshits who will never be happy for anything you make.

They can also be over-defensive and hostile to those who offer legitimate criticism. I'm not trying to piss on anyone's bonfire, I'm just saying what I thought of the current arc, and I only hope that helps. I'm certainly not the one calling people bitches or dipshits, unlike some.
