Walking Dead

Zombie adventure game? Is the puzzle solution 'use shotgun'?

Watch Video

Haven't read the series or seen the show, but everyone keeps saying it's good. I might actually check the game out first, just to see if I like the world.

Walking Dead really does try it's best to Trip you up doesn't it?

And I would have used the ax on Mr. Bear trap's head. Nothing of value was lost, something to distract the zombies while we make our escape and...

I would like to see how it pans out, my expectations being that everyone will die like in the other media for the Walking Dead.

You'd probably be better off starting with the show. From what was said in this review, one's sense of the world is pretty different between the game and the TV series. And the TV series seems pretty close to the graphic novels, so it might be to your advantage if you watch the show/read the series first.

Since we are on the Zombie Apocalypse, I wonder what Yahtzee would think about Day Z?

I saw the ending in Episode 2 coming a mile away. Still good despite it's predictability.

John De lancie's acting career? I think there's a lot you could write about without a Q in it, hmmm, hmmm?

Anyway, how bad was the adventure game era, anyway? Being about 4 at the height of the adventure game era, I've got no real idea. Although having seen some of Yahtzee's L.P.'s a lot of what he's saying seems accurate.

I agree that old guy won't stop yelling at you

you do one thing to be nice to that old guy and that red neck asshole hates you

And that guy with the glasses gets 10 seconds of screen time and dies I think he name was Mark.

This is what I remember seeing from my brother's playthrough. I also feel sorry for that teacher who gets his leg hacked off and dies or leave him to die. Either way that guy is fucked.

Haven't played any point 'n' click adventure games for a while (last one was Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos last year, maybe there's a connection). Looks interesting enough to get me back into it, though.

If by pretty close you mean that half the characters in the show are alive when they shouldn't be, and the other half has gone off in a completely different direction than the comic took them, yeah, I guess the show is pretty close to the comic.

Sometimes I can be pretty lenient with less than faithful adaptations(the Scott Pilgrim movie comes to mind), but The Walking Dead show just pisses me off.

Anyone else find it interesting that he called the vat of chlorine half-full instead of half-empty?

A multi player only zombie apocalypse mod based on a modern military engine with a focus on realism . Probably not his type of thing.

Now that you mention it, I could use some lemonade.

Well so much for that!

He does have a point, how is a zombie apocalypse supposed to end? 28 Days Later had all the rage-zombies starve to death and it turns out the infection was contained in England so we get zombies dead, the English/Scottish/Welsh killed, and free real estate. Um, yay?

And then sequels started appearing. Oh joy.

I for one have always hated George Romero's ZA endings. They're always weird downers or apathetic "shrugs and leaves" endings. The first movie was arguably the best with the implication that even though the zombies are tearing down doors and killing everyone at least they aren't pointlessly cruel or sadistic about it. Which makes a huge amount of difference. Somehow. I mean humans are fighting for their survival so getting brutal about it would seem perfect validated. If aliens invaded and started wiping us out to use our toothpaste as recreational drugs we'd all feel pretty fucking good about watching one get curbed stomped, wouldn't we?

But by Land of the Dead it's gotten just snoreworthy. One of the last surviving cities of the living is overrun by zombies and not only are we meant to not care about the fate of the humans trapped within but we're supposed to somehow cheer for the fucking zombies because one of them retains enough memory to make shit even worse for humanity? And the heroes steal the only means of defeating the invasion to watch everyone die from the sidelines and they all just feel good about it for some arbitrary psychopathic reason? Acting like "hey, the last dicks on the planet are dead now! Free sailing for us! Let's go to Canada!"

Um, no. You're not getting into Canada. Y'see the last remaining dicks on the planet are not dead: by letting your city get turned into the zombie buffet YOU are officially the biggest dicks on earth. And since Canada will easily survive the zombie apocalypse thanks to our winter season and, you know, NOT being dicks to each other, we'll have plenty of border patrols and snipers ready to pick you off the moment you approach the wall we built to keep your douchebaggy sods out. That's right, we built a wall to keep you out. The irony is so thick you can use it as sandwich bread. Enjoy recycling your own urine.

Sorry, I blacked out for a moment there, what were we talking about? Oh right. And that's why Steam is better than Origin.

So, Yahtzee absolutely loved the game and will admit that it is the new epitome of adventure games and the best game of this decade.

Brilliant

Day Z does seem to offer something Yahtzee has been asking for for a while now: a plausible survivor game (zombies aside!), in which you've got to scavenge for resources, food, etc. in order to stay alive.

Plus, the convenient alliances which form between players - and the inevitable backstabbing that goes with them - would probably provide a neat confirmation of his cynical worldview...

You know, what Yahtzee says normally goes in one ear and out the other but sometimes what he says really grips me by the balls. "It took four or five chops" is very much one of those scenarios.

Part of my long-term survival plan is too rebuild society. I am even planing on building a library 25 years into the apocalypse, sooner if the political and military situation permits.

I am working on a short-term (1-5 years post) mid-term (6-15 years post) and long-term (16+ years post).

So ya, I would enjoy a Zombie game where I got too rebuild society.

I saved the man over the child in the first one. A grown man that has been shown to be handy with tools and mechanics, is of far more use than a child.

No Strong Bad's Cool Games For Attractive People? For Shame ZP!

OT: I might want to play the game, but I don't get a lot of money to Steam, so I might not. Who knows...

So a point and click adventure game about zombies? Pass

I completely agree. The characters in this game that force you to make choices really only want a yesman. They make it like they just want you at their back, but fuck 'em. Disagree once, especially in an instance where their side is really fucking inhuman, and they act like you've betrayed them.

Other than that, the game is quite good, but it does hamper the fun when you realize in the long term that your choices don't matter in the end:

The game has different multiple endings depending on your choices, one of which is writing up a new constitution and creating a new government. Another is actually finding a cure to the outbreak. Getting one ending doesn't ever end the game, so you can potentially get all of them.

Enjoy.

Um.. it was amazing? The peak of gaming history by a mile. I thought everyone knew that.

The reason Yahtzee doesn't care about playing episode 3 of the Walking Dead is the same reason I don't read the comics anymore, nor follow the show at all.

Everyone is fucked, in the past, present and future tenses of the word and once I realized that, all interest in the story left for me. There is nothing new to say here and I have plenty of examples of how things go to shit. So meh.

I don't want to live in a world where everyone gets lemonade...

But yeah even just WATCHING the episodes for this game can actually be entertaining but it is very much build upon a railroad where you are just given new lines with the only people getting a dynamic choice are the writers for each episode to fill in all the possibilities.

Let me put it this way:

We didn't see that kind of good genuinely hilarious comedy in games again until Portal came out five years ago.

It was a damn good time full of damn good games.

6 Velociraptors in a tent with one sleeping bag. That is such an awesome line.

And this kiddies is the crux of modern game design, you are watching a movie you have to frequently unpause...

Assassin Xaero:

Sounds like the staff was to lazy or to pressed to be able to make that a meaningful decision.

Dammit, Yahtzee. I was holding out hope that there would be lemonade at the end of all of this! :(

Also, I totally saved the man over the kid. Why? Because the man was trapped and the kid could have hopped right off the tractor if he had half a brain!

I agree wholeheartedly about Kenny's behavior in the later half of episode 2 if you chose to

I mean talk about an about face in the friendship I made between him and Lee. I liked him in episode 1 but seriously, fuck Kenny.
