Zero Punctuation: DayZ

My main problem with this game is that you cannot clear the area
at least locally, maybe temporary
Because my point of disbelief comes from the moment when there were like bazillion zombies walking around an old barn and when I ran out of ammo bazillion+1 zombie got me

Also axe wielding is an art in this game
and not that kind of art you want to learn :(

Besides the griefers are just shit
I was there once in Elektrozavodsk and climbed on the highest point to check if there were some players in area (maybe team with them)
After receiving head piercing in a form of bullet I knew there were other players around
And the saddest part was that I later found my old equipment intact, so whoever killed me did it for fun >:(

Although I still managed to enjoy this game pretty much

I knew I smelled familiar virus in the air!

Really enjoyed this one. The story you told made it seem all exciting, and makes me want to try it. I felt similarly after the Fallout: New Vegas roleplaying video.

I can't wait for the standalone version to come out. I guess Bohemia Interactive realized that Arma II didn't have a flood of sales because of the core game. On the other hand, I was playing Arma II before DayZ /hipster.

Arma III is going to be great. The game is so realistic that the developers were arrested in Greece earlier this week for espionage. This may set things back for a while.

Someone needs to find that player and give him many thanks and gifts for making Yahtzee's weekly video series more entertaining than usual!

Preferably a box full of blood packs. Real ones. Sent to his house.

This.

And while we're on the topic, does Yahtzee play undercover or just go by "yahtzee19" when playing online? Because fuck knows he doesn't need the attention if everyone figured out it's THE Yahtzee they just headshot from 5 miles away. Or blew up his ship in EVE.

Your best review in a long time. I'm a DayZ player myself and your description of the game describes very well how I started out as well.
It's hard to play the game as an honest player now, to many psychopaths and hackers running amok in Chernarus nowadays.
Even so, if you find a nice quiet server, this game is just uhm... "great".. as you say it is.

Lol the game is more a chore than fun... but it's still alot of fun. :P

I love the transfusion followed by a broken kneecap, it's pretty much what happens all the time. The entire game is based on the phrase, "I'M SAFE!... maybe not."

I can relate to the Enfield moment...I ran out of SD mags for my MP5 earlier today, found a enfield in a barn and put my MP5 in my backpack. Crawled out of town and shot a zombie just to test the gun when I was out of town....entire town of zombies came running, made more noise then the LMG my friend found. :S

Captcha: Laugh at me

That's not nice, captcha. :<

Dayz can be really good once they fix a ton of shit that's wrong. Also i tend to never play the game solo, having friends along makes the game more bearable in the state that it's in.

If you think you can keep all your blood inside you on your first attempt in DayZ, I'd say you're being rather...

Vane: The thing that tells you which way the wind is blowing
Vein: The thing with blood in it
Vain: Either excessively proud of oneself, or worthless (i.e., "My efforts to learn proper grammar have been in vain")

Glad to see him enjoying a multiplayer game known for rampant griefing.

I tried to play this a few months ago, I got frustrated because I couldn't invert the y-axis, and then I got frustrated because it was pitchblack and I couldnt see a damn thing. /uninstalled.

Maybe I'll try it again and give the tutorials a go...

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, as good as some of the first two year episodes were.
Edit: And that made me think, I think I liked this because you really show how the game was in your experience, it doesn't talk from a distant perspective, we get to see the game through your eyes. I think some of your episodes may have missed some of that, and those that contain it are among your best.

I think I'd rather play New Super Mario Bros. 2

Why does everyone have such a hard time with DayZ? I've died once, and I think it was because I fell off a building because ArmA II.

Granted I went into DayZ with 3 years of ArmA II experience, and with friends who have a year of ArmA II experience, so we knew what we were doing.

Of course It probably helped that I stumbled on a car full of food, ammo, and medical supplies, and that it was fully functioning. Driving up and down the coast was like living in Zombie land. Who needs bullets when you have a car to run things over with?

It looks like Yahtzee struggleing to find games at the moment.

Perhaps he could do an overview of free to play games to pass the time.

Damn Yahtzee making me wish I had Dayz and making me regret the 60 dolalrs i blew on Diablo 3.

Want to Trade Diablo 3 account for Arma 2 on steam. Message me yo.

DayZ, DayZ give me your answer do.
Im half crazy all for th-AAAH ZOMBIES!!!

Did you nitpick his post for any reason other than to be a Grammar Nazi?

OT: Despises the difficulty of Demon's Souls and only gives a passing mention to Dark Souls in Extra Punctuation, claims to love Minecraft's Hardcore mode and had fun with DayZ.

I get that they're completely different beasts, it's just amusing to me that the insanely soul-crushingly difficult zombie-apocalypse shooter gets more of a review than the insanely soul-crushingly difficult fantasy action-RPG.

So he's reviewing mods now? Clearly this means he'll need to take a spin through Black Mesa when it releases this week, heeee~

As for DayZ, it's been one of those games I've been meaning to try. It certainly seemed promising when several friends were pretty much gushing over it non-stop when it first released and were constantly playing it. They described it similarly to how Yahtzee did: A flawed, but still entertaining experience.

As a DayZ vet, there was a massive evil grin on my face the second he said "Lee Enfield." For those who don't play DayZ, players call the Lee Enfield "The Dinner Bell." I think you can figure out why.

Created this account just to ask this question... Yahtzee, I can't help but notice you're still going on about Minecraft, a game in which we both thoroughly enjoy. Any chance you could upload your map (or more if you have them) for the masses? I'd get a real kick out of exploring your creations.

*side note, since i have no clue if Mr. Yahtzee ever replies to these types of posts, if anyone here does know where to get this message through that would like to see his maps also, maybe you could pass the message on?

the tricky part would be me finding out if he ever did upload them.. he has 2+ web sites, and a twitter account (which does me little good as I've never used that). so consider this a P.S.S. if someone finds his maps online posted somehow, maybe you could leave a message in this thread for me? not meaning to sound lazy.

thank you for putting up with this rant.

Or, y'know, the guy got shot himself and you reached your corpse after respawning faster than him since you had a headstart of sorts.

I'm glad he did. I took DVS BSTrD's post at face value and wondered what he was on about.

DayZ is good but I strongly recommend everyone wait until the standalone version comes out. There is only so much a mod can do to a game. The standalone has complete access to the engine and will be removing some of the more annoying aspects of the mod. I'm surprised the number one issue of the game wasn't mentioned. If you play long enough you'll run into it.

Very funny review, Yahtzee. It sounds like I would need a drink after each death! By the sounds of it, the video game concepts of "realism" and "zombies" are playing themselves out, since those words don't mean anything anymore if developers and modders can't get it right. Also, DayZ sounds like one of those games the Penny Arcade guys called a "depowerment fantasy", like the Tomb Raider reboot (a.k.a. Lara Begins) and Last of Us, the post-apocalyptic escort quest.

Protip: don't crawl on roads.

Being roadkill is not fun.

The cartoon during the credits when the Imp gets HP Sauce on it made me laugh so hard. That should be an actual game mechanic. Throw steak, hot, chilli, or Ketchup sauce on other players and it makes the nearby zombies swarm!

Yahtzee if you suck at playing games like you suck at Dayz, then now I'm not surprised why I never liked you.

I'm saying this but I actually enjoyed today's video a lot :)

I ws finally able to give this a shot... I can now honestly say I do not like this mod, at all. Its like they could smell the newbie status on me. While it could no doubt be fun once you learn, you have to suffer through alot of shit to get to that point, and personally, I didnt find it fun enough to put up with such suffering.

...cute...

I loved this game for maybe two weeks. Then I got fully kitted out, had a base camp with multiple vehicles... And started to realize it was too easy. NVG's made me a creature of the night... Until the hackers started showing up. Then suddenly I'm getting bombed by fighter jets...

Ultimately the bugs and the lack of direction (In the mods development) killed it for me.

Was it fun? Yeah, horribly so for the first few days when things were fresh. After that? Mehhhh I don't think the head modder has the chops for it. He's like a kid with ADD, every few patches he's completely abandoned one shit feature for another crap one.

Hooray for minecraft and tekkit. Seems way more interesting than DayZ.
Can't even build anything decent in DayZ like a dirt house :>

I can sympathies with Yahtzze finding nothing new this week, maybe if me & 2 million other weren't playing so much GUILD WARS 2 atm I'd have noticed something.

>Dayz + Minecraft Hardcore mentioned in same review
>no mention of MineZ
if you didn't know it existed, now you do. and it is addictive as fuck. and yes it does work (almost) perfectly

If you want human interaction that doesn't involve the receiving end of a fire arm, you'll need to find and hop on a team speak server to play with the people there.

"Sudden inexplicable bleeding!"

My new favourite quote.

Best ZP yet. "nat's foreskin away from death" is just pure genius.
