The mechanics are interesting enough, but I'm going to have to go with Izzet for the overload mechanic, simply because cyclonic rift is pretty nasty before overload, and can get obscene after the fact. It doesn't hurt that Jace's ultimate is pretty nasty(play a card from each library without paying its mana cost), but Faerie Impostor's "drawback" will play quite well with Snapcaster Mage, or Restoration Angel.

None of them particularly thrill me, (I'm waiting for Boros to come out) but Azoruis seems the most tolerable.

Aaah. You're talking Magic, the Gathering. Might be worth mentioning in the headline. Or in one of the first few sentences. If not for the images of the cards, I would have no idea what you're talking about even after reading the first paragraph. Some people read this stuff via RSS.

Disappointed with with the new rakdos mechanic. I prefer Helbent, which made everything stronger if you had no cards in your hand.

I can't wait to see what Simic gets. Hopefully it's faster than placing 1/1 counters on everything, and hopefully it gets another ridiculous monster like Simic Sky Swallower.

I'm going with Selesnya for my first prerelease. The second, either azorius or Golgari.

Azorius with some mono bue Izzet cards. I've been thinking of making something of a mill deck and detain seems perfect for a little turtle action.

The title says Hexproof, it's the dedicated MTG column. Admittedly though it's not the most read column on the escapist, but it's tagged as MTG.

I'm a HUGE fan of Golgari. Black and Green are my favorite colors, and as such I love graveyard mechanics. Innistrad's graveyard theme followed up by Golgari in RTR pretty much make me the happiest Magic player in the world right now.

I'm gonna hit two different prerelease events the weekend they happen. First time I'll be going Golgari obviously, second time I'll shake things up and maybe play Rakdos or Azorious. Gonna have to wait to see more spoilers.

I'm just not feeling any of the mechanics in this set. I was really looking forward to RtR, but it's obvious it won't be as deep and balanced as Ravnica was. At least it has flavor, something Magic has been missing for a long time. Magic has become more homogenized since Ravnica, where in every set the card pool is evenly divided with pre-made playing styles. What happened to deckbuilding?

Regardless, I will dabble with Izzet in this set. Was hoping Golgari would be good but Scavenge is a really weak and simple mechanic compared to Dredge (from Ravnica) and I don't do "simple".

My goal for this standard phase will be to get U/R control to work, maybe with a splash of white.

EDIT: Though I will be anxiously anticipating my favorite color combo guild, Simic (green/blue) and cross my fingers they are more about control than they were in Ravnica. Like, I would shit my pants if they reprinted Mystic Snake for Simic. And similar flash creatures.

I'm going to be visiting the Carnarium for the midnight pre release.

But since I'll be playing all six events offered by my local, I'll be trying all the guilds out over the course of the weekend.

I'll be using Izzet at the pre release, but my loyalty is and always will be her mistress Teysa Karlov and the Church of Deals. Orzhov guild forever.

I'll probably play a couple - golgari seems the best thus far, but we'll see.

Also: Yes, scavenger is weaker than dredge for constructed. Not so sure for limited. Plus, 'weaker than dredge' is sort of like 'less explosive than a nuke'. Sure, it might be true, but most of us are glad...

Well, you can use scavenge against something with unleash is a nice little trick.

Midnight will be Azorious since I'll be able to actually plan my abilities and not make many mistakes to tiredness
Saturday morning/early afternoon will be Selesnya cos smashing into things goes well with copious amounts of coffee
Saturday late afternoon/night Rakdos because just play big dude. Big dude go eat face.
Sunday morning Izzet. After a good nights (4-5 hours) rest I shouldn't fail too hard. FOR SCIENCE!
Sunday evening will be finishing off with Golgari and hopefully taking one for the swarm!

Yeah I'm gonna be magic-ed out but it's gonna be so good. I hope that I can pick up some Epic Experiments from people though since they'd go very nicely into some decks.

Captcha twenty four seven. Yes captcha. Magic, all day, all night.

I'm currently enjoying playing Black/Green, White/Green, Black/Blue and White/Blue the most, mostly just messing with any and all graveyards and concentrating on making the most out of that special place called 'Exile'... so, I'm really looking forward to the pre-release event and making those decks of mine really get that fresh boost of causing even more despair and madness!

Erm, what? Are... are you trying to tell me that Innistrad wasn't flavorful? Or Mirrodin Besieged? Or Alara? Or Zendicar? And what's wrong with supporting various playing styles? That seems far better than just printing out random cards and seeing what sticks. Besides that, how was Ravnica balanced? The block as a whole, vaguely (with a number of color combinations being notably underpowered, but still). But in each set of Ravnica, the colors that had more guilds were notably more powerful.

Ravnica was a fun and fantastic set, but it was far from perfect. While RtR isn't perfect either, it's looking like it will do a fine job of following in Ravnica's footsteps.

I'm dissapointed because I want Red/White and Green/Blue, so the expansion will be more of my thing. I'm thinking I might go for mainly Red/Black, because who needs defence.

GOOOOOOOOOO NIV-MIZZET!
Let's set this guy on fire and see what happens! FOR SCIENCE!!!!!

gotta admit, tho, so far, golgari seems like the juiciest of the bunch.

Golgari, all the way. There's some interesting uses I can put those mechanics to.

Torn between Rakdos and Izzet and can only afford to hit one prerelease event. Probably leaning towards Rakdos right now but that may change.

Golgari, ever since I saw vulturous zombie I've been a huge fan of black green and rotting, plantlike undead. Plus I can't help but think of splinterfright when I see the guild mechanics.

Not to say that the other guilds aren't tempting. Izzet has amazing synergy with some cards from previous sets and I also like Azorius (will fit perfectly with my current blue white flyers deck) and Selesnya (namely because of the grove of the guardian/populate combos)

Azorius, to uphold law and order!

And then probably Izzet, For SCIENCE!

Considering I learned to play with Azorius the first time I think I might continue with my loyalties.

Detain and Overload hold my attention more than the other three. I'm a little disappointed with Unleash, since I enjoy playing my B/R Hellbent deck even if it is a bit weaksauce now. Not even legal in Modern thanks to my one copy of Dark Suspicions.

I plan to represent both Azorius and Izzet at the Prerelease, since I signed up for two. But it is a facade: in-character, I'm a double agent spying on both guilds. House Dimir for life!

I've already got a U/R brew set up for rotation (barring cards yet to be spoiled). And I automatically get a 4/4 flier with haste for 5 in my Sealed pool. The choice is clear.
