Zero Punctuation: Resident Evil 6 Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 NEXT
Ah, after a semi-sh*t evening that was just the combination of bitterness and humour I needed. Thanks, Yahtzee, you haven't let me down yet. (Also, I don't care much about ResiEvil, but know just enough about the games to get the references. Handy, that...)
Well...I'll just post an earlier comment that I'd made.
Also, apparently the next patch will make Ada's story unlocked by default.
Which really should have irreversibly killed off anything remotely related to Umbrella, but then they came back again like an invincible cancer you just can't get out of your system no matter how many antibiotics you take.
I thought Yahtzee would have appreciated that RE6 really doesn't have any more QTEs than RE4 or RE5, and in fact has less because the dodge QTE is now an on-demand function.
Wanted to post this | |
I have only played the demo and based on that, Yahtzee's review seems pretty spot on to me. Resident Evil is still one of my favorite video game franchises though. Right now the game is on my holiday wish list, along with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil: Revelations.
also would like to point out, that Ada Story explain some of the mystery left in the 3 main campaing, my guess to have her to be unlocked is to avoid massive spoilers of the others campaings
@ Smokescreen. You can pause the game if you play in offline mode. I discovered this by accident, kinda goes with your point about no game manual! dodgy indeed!
Thanks for this man. On another note. I have already played 3 RE games (3, 4 and Veronica). I had enough fun and I can think and search for fanfics which can do better plots for the franchise.
I hope you weren't arguing FOR Capcom there... Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Street Fighter etc have awful stories. I love Devil May Cry to death, but it isn't for the story.
Oh heavens no, that was the point I was making. Capcom makes games with decent-to-great gameplay, but absolutely abysmal stories, so it always surprises me when people start praising the stories in a Capcom game. Ace Attorney is basically the exception that proves the rule.
I can't be the only one who thinks that the RE6 logo looks like a giraffe getting head
You are probably not the only one who has stolen that bad joke from someone else, at least.
This. All through the demo I felt like I accidentally put in Battlefield 3. Definitely skipping this one altogether.
Anyone see the Conan O'Brian Clueless Gamer of this? I found it pretty hilarious. http://teamcoco.com/video/highlight-clueless-gamer-resident-evil-6
I laughed a whole bunch at this review, but the game's not that bad. Resident Evil has always been a goofy, hammy action series where the only people that take it seriously are the kind of people that have a 'zombie survival plan' and love Resident Evil 4 way too much. Having been with the series since the beginning, I couldn't even call Resident Evil 4 scary. It was goofy and fun. I mean, you fight Napoleon, Jason Voorhees (and his sisters), as well as Predator-Alien mash-ups. Cultists in hoods had rocket launchers, flaming cross-bows, machine gun emplacements, and Lord of the Rings Trolls. Also, don't forget about the helicopter that blows shit apart while you inch your way across a battlefield of possessed farmers. Seriously, why does everyone expect more from Resident Evil? 3 starts off with soldiers rappelling into a zombie warzone for a knock-down, drag-out brawl for the city and then ends with a nuke. Not saying the originals aren't superior, and definitely not saying I don't like 4, but everyone is just waaaaay too butthurt about 6.
I'm really surprised he didn't mention this:
oh my god, what a surprise. the games sucks. good thing i dint had any interest in getting it. got my self dishonored yesterday. so far this game is good. LOL to this hilarious QTE video. glorious. :D
Troy Baker voices like... everyone, ever, and so does Yuri Lowenthal and Laura Bailey, and both of them are in this game.
Wait, releasing zombie creating virus actually was the initial plan? Anyway it is about time for RE reboot.
The biggest takeaway I get from this review is that now I want a duckie. Also, I'm perfectly justified in not investing any heart into this series.
The really terrible thing about ll athis is, despite the mixed to negative reviews, this game will still sell by the bucket load, and there will still be a Resident Evil 7. Probably with more QTE. Capcom have already shipped 4.5mil copies, in the hope they will sell 7mil by next year. It won't surprise me if at least the sell all the first batch.
I kinda enjoyed this, but the more I think of it, the more I dislike it. It's just embarassing and stupid
I don't. Because he's clearly been paid by Capcom to make the game look fun. It can't hide that it's a terrible piece of product placement.
I actually enjoyed the game. I thought it would like it more, or at least hate it less, because it was closer to 4 and a turn around from 5. I never had online as an option because I do not want to play with others but I DO want to be able to pause.
I really find it hard to believe that he went for a low blow of that nature or is even aware of the girl who did that. He doesn't read the forums around here from what I understand, and he's used bleach as a go-to "given up and decided to die" action before. OT: I was excited when I saw the title, and not disappointed. I know most critics (who aren't on publisher payroll, I'm assuming) have taken their jabs at this, but I love it the best when this man does his verbal uppercut of shame. I want to like this game. 5 left a bad taste in my mouth but I was able to finish it, and for years I was a day one buyer of this and anything survival horror. I was even duped into getting 4 for the GC, PS2, and then Wii (which I don't regret, however), but this game...deserves what it gets. When you forget where you came from, and what got you where you are completely, sometimes it can blow up in your face. In life and in art.
I'm currently playing the Resident Evil games on Gamecube as a Halloween-a-thon (Zero, Remake, 2, 3, Code Veronica, 4), and seeing what the series mutated into in RE6 makes me more than a little depressed. I'm in the thick of the Remake right now. Tight tension, expert pacing, moody environments, spooky atmosphere, creepy lighting, disturbing monsters, chilling sound effects and music, tense resource management, a powerful sense of desperation, struggle, and anxiety, heroes that freak out, throw up, and lose their nerve, dwindling items and resources, deliberately paced puzzles, heavy exploration, chilling camera angles, highly focused and deliberate game design... ... which RE6 doesn't have a single bit of any of those. What I find even stranger is that when making Resident Evil 4, Shinji Mikami made several prototypes, and he kept thinking there was too much action. One prototype had so much action, he just spun it off into Devil May Cry. I have a sneaking suspicion that Shinji Mikami would never have allowed RE6 to see release in its current form. He'd have turned it into a new IP altogether, but he's not at Capcom anymore, and Capcom cares not about doing what's best for the series. Also, who would have thought that out of THREE Resident Evil games and TWO Resident Evil movies JUST THIS YEAR that the best Resident Evil experience would be the largely overlooked spin-off on the Nintendo 3DS?
Capcom: Let's make the majority of Resident Evil 4 an escort quest. Let's make the person you're escorting female, annoying as hell, can't help you worth a damn, and give her huge boobs. That won't make our protagonist seem like a prick every time she dies.
In the sense that Resident Evil 4 deviated from the existing franchise in particular ways, and Resident Evil 6 deviated from the existing franchise in particular ways, yes it's basically more of the same. All the criticisms made of RE6 today are basically the criticisms I made of RE4 back in the day. Except everything that RE4/RE5 did to deviate from the existing franchise, RE6 has improved upon. The one significant dislike I have, besides the fact that this game is even called Resident Evil anymore, is the over-reliance on and overabundance of cheap deaths for added "difficulty".
It's not a hidden reward, her chapter contains answers to some of the big plot elements and is locked until you beat the other three campaigns. Granted none of the stuff in her campaign should surprise you but it's still technically "spoiling" the "plot twists" to play her campaign first.
Edit: Double post. | |
Well, to be honest, the first couple of trailers I saw had me interested. But considering the poor critical reception it's getting, the fact that it's the fall season, so a lot of big titles are out, and that I'm knee-deep in Dishonored/XCOM right now, there's nothing here that suggests I should buy it now. I might pick it up later on, when the price comes down a bit, and I have some free time.
Not bothered about this game I downloaded demo and soon found I had to play online with some wanker I didn't like Nore care about
I figured as much from listening to discussions, but he's doing the exact same voice. They should of gotten Sasha Grey to voice a character, that would have been great.
After playing the demo and seeing the changes they made I cancelled my pre order. I was hoping Capcom had learned something from the mistakes they made in RE5 but apparently not. I'll probably pick this up when its in the 20 dollar range with all the DLC.

Even that is favourable 'cause then you can just not download it so you won't feel like you didn't complete the whole game.
Even better option: Stop cramming Ada into these games.
