GinxTV: Forza Horizon Guide to Open World Racing

Forza Horizon - Guide to Open World Racing

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

Watch Video

I almost felt like I was watching an episode of top gear :P

Burnout Paradise as the first open world racer?

NFS: Underground 1
NFS: Most Wanted (original release)
NFS: Carbon
Midnight Club 3
Midnight Club 2 (This one I'm hazy on, could have been closed circuit)

Research at least a little bit before you review titles.

I remember Midtown Madness on the original xbox. I don't even remember it being that good of a game but who cares when you got a room full of characters playing cops and robbers.

Test Drive Unlimited as well, and if you want to really get technical Turbo Esprit in 1986 was the first open world racer.

Ah truth. I knew I was forgetting a title. Test Drive was it.

As for Turbo Esprit, I honestly haven't played that, but I need to check it out now. In any case my point stands :)

All I got from this video was 'blah blah blah blah blah' over stupid clips of FMV cutscenes. Then, when finally we do get gameplay footage, the game looks like every other bland racer. Can someone send these Microsoft a guide to decent preview videos?

Most of what you saw was gameplay footage, or at least replay footage.

It's an enjoyable game, and has a far more believable conceit than TDU2 tried to do, but lacks the range of cars the Forza series normally has. Which considering my main critique of Forza against Gran Turismo is its smaller selection of cars isn't great..

The DLC will help, but I can't help but feel ripped off when most of the DLC cars are already in my Forza4 garage.

They managed to sound like a giant advertisement for Forza Horizon.

Open-world racing was common prior to the Xbox 360 era, and it's a bit disappointing that these guys missed that.

Midnight club 2 certainly was, was the 1st racing game that ever made sense to me.
Couldn't stand the other supposed street racing ones that had cops chasing you through barricaded circuits.

Midnight club 1 had similar racing style, no barriers.

Waiting for the next Gran Turismo game. I wonder if it would be open world.

As a PS3 gamer I can honestly say that Forza Horizon is the first time I've ever been properly Jelly of a Xbox Exclusive, it looks great!
