Wow, I didn't hink that Erin had the capacity to like iOS games. Who knew?

Honestly, if THAT is the "highest award possible", then I as developer would feel a bit insulted, actually. Because unless your name is "Halo" or "Metroid", a FPS belongs to PC and not on a console, god dangit!

Hahaha, can't stop laughing.
Love your stuff guys.
Keep at it.
my face hurts from grinning so much.

I have not heard of this game.
Can anyone tell me why it stands out as a game you would want on a console?

Anyway,
:) funny comic. I like this build up style.

People used to regard consoles the same way, just saying.

My friend is playin a Zombie FPS on his phone...
Now I am not sure I understood this comic -.-

Yeah and native Americans belong on their goddamn reservations!

Welcome to the Escapist, you'll soon find out that consoles are still viewed that way here.

OT: Great comic, I did see something of the sort coming, but still great. I have to agree though, touch screen controls work for a lot of games, but some games all but require mouse and keyboard, some games work great with controllers. Just the way thing goes. Now when it comes to RTS I think that touch screen controls could rival mouse controls.

Suchong + bow tie: awesomeness^2

I found a typo though... you wrote "on an actual console", whereas you meant to write "on PC, not some kiddie toybox for retards"

minor mistype, but still.

Now do one where she gives a console FPS the highest award it can get: the "I WISH THIS WAS ON A PC WITH A PROPER FPS CONTROL SCHEME" award.

Is there a 'I wish this was not based of motion controls award'

With good reason, I believe.

I'm no FPS professional and nowhere near the "good" mark, even, but playing a game of that kind on a console has always alienated me.

I can't even begin to fathom how anyone could make a FPS on a mobile device without forcibly dumbing everything down to the point it becomes a rail shooter with frills.

If I wanted to be a troll here and I really wanted to annoy you, I still couldn't bring myself to say that console controllers EVER could live up to mouse and keyboard. I tried playing Halo Reach and while it could possibly be a good game the controls just don't do it for me. It's a shame that some games with shooter mechanics are console exclusives because even if they're great I wont be able to fully enjoy it without a mouse and keyboard. Both accuracy and speed is off, auto aim only makes me annoyed. I haven't tried any touch screen fps games, but I'd rather keep it that way too.

Even Halo and Metroid are games I would've loved to purchase on PC because it's essentially where first person shooters belong, similar to how arcade fighters do best with d-pads/analog sticks. It would be nothing short of SCARY to see what a professional Halo player could do armed with a mouse and aim-assist disabled.

But as far as Microsoft is concerned Halo is an essential tool to get people to buy an XBox, similarly to how Mario/Zelda/etc games are essential tools to get people to buy Nintendo's sequential junk consoles.

I really don't understand why people get so wound up about PC vs Console FPS', yes the PC controls are definately more responsive but that doesn't stop Console games being enjoyable. They are usually designed around this exact limitation.

Limitations aside, it still raises questions as to why things are exclusive to platforms where they don't belong. Imagine if an arcade fighter (say...Street Fighter XI) was PC exclusive. "It's still enjoyable!" people would claim, but would you not ask a whole bunch of questions as to why such a thing was done?

Enough with the devisive commentary folks. Mobile, console, or pc, it doesnt matter as long as they're playing. This need to feel superior to your neighbour only damages gaming culture as a whole. If you wanna play your FPS on a console so be it. Enjoy. I prefer PC if only because I've been using that control scheme for almost 15 years. However, some of my finest gaming memories involve Golden Eye. It's like watching an impressionist claim their approach is a truer artform than surealism.

tl:dr Same team people. Watch your friendly fire.

Its simple.

The consoles are proprietary.

They can afford to throw thousands of dollars at a company not to release it elsewhere, PC doesnt have a solid person to stand up like that.

Valve is close, but they dont care THAT much, and developers/publishers are too short sighted to say "nah no exclusivity thanks, we can make more off the other consoles or other consoles+PC."

I disagree 100% with Metroid, mainly on the basis that it's not really a first person shooter. A game like that with locking on would not work well at all. They'd have to change up the entire control scheme and basically just turn it into an regular fps if they wanted it on the PC

OT(ish): There are amazing games on Android?! Where? I haven't even found anything I'd warrant calling "okay"

Because FPS make more money on console with less work for the developer. Video games (business) will always go where the money is.

Aha, that's why I keep reading this comic. Every now and then, it still produces a clever little videogame-related joke.

BroJing:

The issue here is that the joke being made applies just as much to consoles vs. PCs as it does to phones vs. consoles.
Yes, console FPSs can be perfectly fun, as can phone FPSs, the control schemes don't outright ruin the games in either case.

But making a joke about how a phone's control system is much worse than consoles for FPSs, without recognising that a consoles controls are much worse than a PCs for the exact same games is at best intellectual dishonesty and at worst pure hypocrisy.

I love how Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja get full console releases, both games you pull out while on the bus or waiting for porn to buffer or both.

EDIT:
I actually prefer FPS's on the console [/drops mic]

But seriously, I think it just comes down to what you're more used to.
I like having the 360 controller layout with sensitivity turned down, so aiming's more presice.

There are so many games I wish that was for the Xbox 360 and for everyone- yet companies put games onto different systems even ones I do not understand why they transferred their series to. I'm talking about you Kingdom Hearts .. ugh. Oh well.

That would probably be Dead Trigger, which annoying F2P microtransaction structure aside[1], is a lot of fun. And actually, having played it, it's not all that much worse than playing an FPS on a console. They're both pretty clunky ways of going about something that was designed around the mouse and keyboard. Having played a couple of shooters on the DS, I'd even go so far as to say touch screen controls are right up there with Mouse and Keyboard, when implemented correctly. Which basically means "get a stylus."

[1] It /really/ pushes the real money transactions, to a truly obnoxious degree. Especially since I'm pretty sure you have to buy it on iOS, and it used to cost $1 on Android -- on top of the microtransactions

console: a panel or unit accommodating controls for electronic or mechanical equipment
: a combination of readouts or displays and an input device (as a keyboard or switches) by which an operator can monitor and interact with a system (as a computer or dubber)

Ok guys, I'm pretty sure that can also means it covers all Xbox's, PS3, Wii-U's, and your damn PC's. >.>

OT: I'm pretty sure the developers would take this straight to the publishers now. "SEE! SEE! NOW CAN WE DESERVE MONEY TO MAKE ANOTHER GAME? WE'RE TOTALLY WORTH IT NOW!"

I would not, controllers work for PCs too and are cheap. That is why the control scheme is better, because you can choose. With that said, I do not like the concept of exclusive titles :P.

Bravo, guys. You both hit the nail on the head. I have no problem with console controls because I've played more FPS's on home consoles than on the PC. I haven't tried paying one on my phone, yet. I think it's a case of which types of games are best suited for what platform you prefer?

Y'know, it's funny, I just built myself a pretty decent gaming computer solely so I can finally play all my Steam games without framerate issues and crashing, and soon I'll be able to officially call myself part PC-Gamer... It's comments like this that make me kinda regret that choice... I don't wanna be associated with this type of dipshit behavior. I'm... I'm part of enough fandoms/groups that I'm moderately ashamed of, y'know...?

I don't wanna... like... add to it. I still haven't bought my video card yet. Maybe it's not too late to back out?

Thank you, Courageous Armored Space Hamster.

Next-gen controllers ought to have a trackball where the right thumbstick is now. Would that not be awesome?

No friend.
Just because some people, in a group of people who like something, act like jerks doesn't mean you shouldn't have fun doing something you like.

Also, from what you said, I'd guess that you aren't a jerk, and having more no-jerks join a group is only a good thing.

To the flamewar: I hate thumbsticks for cursor control. They frustrate me to no end. I can be at the top of a leaderboard in an online shooter on a modern console and still be cursing the piece of shit I'm holding in my hands that keeps me from aiming properly. It's completely impossible for me to have fun while playing such a game.

That said, I've actually played a shooter, on the PS3, with a proper control scheme. You can plug in a mouse and keyboard, and they're usable for Unreal Tournament. I'd say that means there's no argument here.

I know that feel Erin. Nice rat Corey
