Jim & Yahtzee's Rhymedown Spectacular: The Quest Not Taken

MichaelMaverick:
The comments need to pick up the pace on this series.

It's one of those things where I never really know what to say. I like them, but I don't tend to like posting just for the sake of showing approval, as it doesn't add anything to a discussion.

The rhyming was really solid this week though, sometimes before they have been a little off. I have absolutely no idea what game Jim was talking about though, so time to head to google.

EDIT: Apparently an N64 game, which I guess explains it. I never owned one.

I like how you guys think this is a competition. -_-'

Well, not it isn't.
Both Jim and yahtzee collaborate to make these.
So yeah ... this really isn't a competition.

Other then that this week's topics were nice.
Thief 4/Reboot by Yahtzee bought forward some details I didn't know about this reboot (Since i don't really care for the Thief series).
And I loved Jim's about a second in.

Though ... let's just say by the last time I played Animal Crossing (Yes he was talking about about) on the DS I owned a fully upgraded house paid off and fully furnished.
So Tom Nook was bleeding money out through his arse.

Sticky:
Thank you Yahtzee for reminding me about the game formerly called Thief 4
I remember my enthusiasm for this game long before it hit the floor
I remember all the great directions and paths it could take
but now all I remember is the disappointment I feel in it's wake

Now it seems that all good stealth games are dead.
Splinter Cell, once a proud stealther, is now about spraying lead
Let's not forget Hitman, a game of an assassin and his tricks
Now about pre-scripted events, and questioning his own ethics
Or how about Assassin's Creed, once about using speed to remain concealed
Now about rushing an entire British legion in a big open field

It seems all the games I used to enjoy are gone
Maybe stealth as a whole simply won't live on
I really should just stop complaining, making these futile claims
Because at least stealth is not as dead as horror games

Excellent rhymes-manship there! Yahtzee's poem was the better of the two because of his enthusiasm and passion for his subject.

They're both doing fantastic, but I just adored Yahtzee's delivery. I hope this series keeps going. Thanks!

Jim wins this week. Also: who is Tom Nook?!

Shopkeeper in Animal Crossing.

Okay that's why... I've never played Animal Crossing.

Going from strength to strength. "Voting" for Yahtzee this time but great work.

Yeah, Tom Nook is pure evil

omg these were both amazing good work guys! I loved animal crossing but i did get slightly annoyed that Tom always forced you to get a bigger house when you've paid your debt.

Very good videos. Although I prefered the first ones that were more about the game industry in general, probably because the ones more focused on specific games haven't talked about a game I really like/played.

Let me try doing one too:

Saints Row 2 was an awesome game
that really filled me with joy
But then.. came out Saints Row 3, and now 4
whose trailer, for a fan of the old one like me, was apparently made to annoy

With that statement
I guess you know my feelings for Saints Row 4
Looking at the trailer, full of lens flare and Dubstep
I can't wait for more!

Now you can fly and run pretty fast too
All they changed probably wasn't more than 1 KB of information
Who needs undershirts, overshirts and coats?
No one cares about such an in-depth customization

And don't they even care to change the setting a little
The city looks exactly the same to me
Oh but don't mind about that!
I'm pretty sure they'll release a new map in a DLC!

Now you are the president
who must deffend the planet from aliens invading
I don't really mind the sillyness
As long as they at least try to improve the car handling

Yahtzee is so good at this! I love it.

I've been re-watching this all day. I played so much Animal Crossing. The Th4if one was good too though.

Both were excellent. I like the stylistic difference there. Yahtzee plays with the format of the words and the syntax more, trying to tie different versus together using the ryhming. Jim's is more straightforward, but flows and builds in intensity very well. You guys need a better title card for this series though, I almost didn't click it because of how unimpressive it looked.

"I gladly agree and we shake hands. He takes me to my fresh-brought land."

Makes me think of the moment from Ruby Quest when the lights flick on.

I had to stop the video right at the beginning just so I could stop laughing in order to hear the rest. Yahtzee's face and the cowl were just too much. These videos are simply a wonderful thing, keep them coming!

This show always makes me smile. Another great series on the Escapist!

That voice actor/motion capture argument is such bullshit they must know it them selves. The Best character this year, arguably one of the best in this generation was Elizabeth from Bioshock. She has one voice actress, one motion performance actress and one model. The advantage of a digital medium is that you can pick and choose not just the actor, but the traits from the actors you want.

Very nice guys, really loving this series. Favorite is Jim this week :)

So the raccoon's Jeremiah Fink, and Animal Crossing is Finktown?

I have to give this one to Yahtzee, sure on a technical level he's not as good, but something about his ramblings touch me to the core, last time Jim touched me to the core... well I'm still in therapy for that.

That said, does anyone else what to see a Jim and Yahtzee sitcom? I mean after Escapist Expo and now these, they play so well off of each other it'd be a shame if it never happened. D:

Brilliant, both of you. I had never played Animal Crossing so I was unaware that there was a game out there that accurately simulated the modern western credit system of cyclic debt and working entirely for the profit of someone else. Learned something

I am also quite depressed for the new Thief game that's in the works.
I've heard a lot of crap that's going on currently with it, and let me say this, when I saw the first screenshots, I knew somewhere that it'll never be the Thief game many others have played or will be wanting.

Animal Crossing becomes a much darker game if you think of it as perpetual debt peonage. At least Tom Nook can't take your daughter as payment.

Wow, Jim, that was well played xD *claps*

Also, Yahtzee's looking quite handsome! :O

My gf adores Yahtzee slinking out of the frame the way he does.
Finds it hilarious : p

Yahtzee's one was better for me so thus far is 2:1 in Jim's favor in my book.

Can't wait for the next one.

Both of those were fantastic!

Playing Animal Crossing, I once got the Hitler moustache and made a t-shirt in the closest likeness I could manage to an SS uniform at the tailor's place, and tried to assert myself as the master race in the little animal town by going around assaulting people with the net, and I still felt pretty neighborly compared to that fucking raccoon.

this segment is quickly becoming my favorite.

Oddly enough, I was playing Animal Crossing for the Gamecube as I watched this.

Jim has it this week, I hate that dam Raccoon.

What really upsets me is this just Deep Silver desperately trying to cash in. THQ KNEW what they were doing when they just kept to it as DLC. But OH NO, NOT Deep Silver! Not the Gents who wanted you to pay for something in an earlier time you earned by playing the game! OH NO SIR! These guys decided to make it a full retail title despite it looking EXACTLY the same. -SIGH- It truly fills me with dread. Er-MORE dread.
