LOL fkcn scrb cant evn noscope fly!

Another Eva dig :D

How many posts until someone misses the joke again, I wonder...

Heh, pay the last one, very true.

I dont know, I like the idea of being a DOUCHE-TITAN!

Without further delay; Strategy gamers are vastly superior to all other gamers.

For the Douchecanicus, Praise be to the Omnidouchessiah

dat last panel, I am still laughing about it, also I so hate it when people get complexity and depth mixed up, normally extra complexity allows for more depth but seriously chess is a pretty simple game and it has more depth then a lot of other games.

I am having a hard time learning the lesson because I am laughing too much.

Specially with the coke cats.

Also, I still don't know if Carter hates Evangelion or is just self depreciating.

Why is the game fun? Because it features cats snorting cocaine, that's why!

Remember when Critical Miss was about funny comics, not sounding condescending and elitist all the time? Yeah.

Ah yes, if I had a dollar for every time someone on this forum tries to claim that "opinions can never be wrong"...

But the last panel is how I talk to women.

Great job with this arc I find myself agreeing with every point.

TheBelgianGuy:

How is it condescending? If you could do it without being ironic, that would be great.

Remember the comic. Use tips from the comic to say why!

TheBelgianGuy:
Remember when Critical Miss was about funny comics, not sounding condescending and elitist all the time? Yeah.

Remember when gaming was about enjoying a passtime rather than whining about everything that isn't to one's precise liking? Yeah.

"Learn to Fly Noob" shall become something I say on a regular basis now. I just know it. Thanks!

There's nothing wrong with saying something is just your opinion as long as you accept that it cuts both ways. If you use that line then you're admitting that you've lost the argument but your opinion of the game is unchanged.

I'm trying to remember... trying... trying...

failed.

Evil Smurf:

You don't talk! You just waggle more. If they're running away or not paying attention, you're not waggling enough.

TopazFusion:

What's more fun than cats snorting coke? Snorting coke off a cat. The sequel will feature snorting cats off of coke.

TheBelgianGuy:

How is this series being elitist or condescending? It is exactly trying to define common ground when discussing games. And as for funny comics, I am loving this series, because it is a public service, and with any luck will improve our discussions here.

The two best panels are the cats taking cocaine and the one with Erin hanging onto the plane as it crashes.

I think I was enthusiastic about games back then.

Grahav:

Also, I still don't know if Carter hates Evangelion or is just self depreciating.

As far as I can tell he doesn't hate it, he just finds it an easy mark for satire. It is the anime equivalent of Half Life in many ways. Where it gets so much unbridled adoration, that it also causes a lot of unbridled rage.

He enjoys poking the bear with it.

So when I say that I like Metro Last Light I need to explain why I find the atmosphere deep and complex instead of just saying "lol my opinion"?......*Pulls pants down* Nope.

What game can I do coke off a cat's belly in?

And is it banned in Australia?

Daystar Clarion:

How many posts until someone misses the joke again, I wonder...

Statistically, zero posts. But that would break the board.

A shame there's actually a point here that'll be buried under hurt feelings.

TopazFusion:

And honestly, what more do you need? Except maybe ninjas, am I right?

TheBelgianGuy:

Thankfully, this comic was pretty funny, and you have absolutely no reason to find it condescending if you are capable of building a persuasive argument. Being able to talk about a subject like an adult should in no way be considered elitist or elite. It should be the standard.

icemasteryeti:

The problem is opinions can be wrong, so it's disingenuous to make the argument as it was presented. Additionally, people have been trained to put opinions against facts as though they are somehow equal. Or even to try and back out of an assertive, fact-like statement.

Even in your scenario, people don't generally treat it like they lost the argument, they treat it like some ace up their sleeve that they can use to save the argument.

"opinion" is up there with "fun" and "challenging" in the way it's used.

TheBelgianGuy:
Remember when Critical Miss was about funny comics, not sounding condescending and elitist all the time? Yeah.

I read the comic.

I laughed at multiple jokes in it.

Therefore, as far as I can see, it's still funny.

Mr.Mattress:
"Learn to Fly Noob" shall become something I say on a regular basis now. I just know it. Thanks!

"Hey man, this sounds familiar. Is this Foo Fighters? Which song?"

TheBelgianGuy:

Not sure how it's elitist to ask people to back up their argument, unless you're saying that it's prejudiced against idiots who couldn't argue their way out of a wet paper bag.

Regardless, while I did quite enjoy todays comic, I've got to say I preferred when there were storyline strips.

FEichinger:
Remember when gaming was about enjoying a passtime rather than whining about everything that isn't to one's precise liking? Yeah.

Um...no?

Jandau:

And he has a Dresden avatar. You can't argue with that.

I don't get the last bit. So you're saying that a subjective opinion can be wrong? That sounds like one of those 'people' who says "I can objectively prove that this game/band/movie is bad". No you can't.

I'd say that you're undermining your own point, because any game that allows you to box against a giant scorpion wearing boxing gloves defies any need for further arguments about it's quality.

Father Time:
So you're saying that a subjective opinion can be wrong?

Of course it can be wrong.

Hitler's opinion of the Jews was wrong, for instance. (Yes I did just drop a Godwin's Law bomb on this thread.)

Grahav:

Baiting Eva fanboys has become a tradition. Which is fine. It's an important anime in the development of the medium, but it's far from flawless. People who can't accept criticism of what they like deserve to be baited as much as possible.

That's totally relevant when talking games.

Although not everything Hitler said about Jews was a matter of opinion.

dear lord, this "#how to talk about games" series is so awesome, please continue!

Not bad. However. I disagree on one small point. there is one opinion which is almost never wrong: whether or not I enjoyed the game. Oh sure, the details why fall under this, but I can't wait to see people try to belittle my enjoyment using this.

Father Time:

Allow me with an absolute turd of a game.

Too Human is a third person game with very shitty camera controls. There, that's the end of it. You want more? Fine. Levels are entirely too long, enemies that inflict status effects are too difficult to distinguish from normal enemies, lack of enemy variety does not keep the combat fresh(most are just pallet swaps), the story is blatantly ripped off of Norse mythology, but that's actually fine. What is not fine is that stupid fucking death scene being unskippable.

Too Human is a BAD game. Not mediocre, BAD. That is pretty much a fact. Now you can still enjoy a bad game, because your enjoyment is your opinion. But you like a bad game.

Well, the comic did it before, so you are free to go.

@topic: nice idee. i like the eva punch ;)

plc hawkeye some games for us :>

Opinions are subjective and therefore never wrong, eh?

By that logic, they're also never right, they just...exist.

Personally I'd say while you may not be able to define an opinion as right or wrong, you can evaluate its quality and maybe even its legitimacy by how much factual grounding it has and exactly what facts its based on.

Grahav:
Also, I still don't know if Carter hates Evangelion or is just self depreciating.

At this point, I'm pretty sure it's both.

OT: The first three panels are pretty much the best thing ever.

I also really like the last point.

Also, further proof that complex =/= deep: Dwarf Fortress. The history (up to a thousand years of it) is randomly generated and it's Dwarf Freaking Fortress, so of course it's complex (most complex game in history, probably), but it has no story beyond what you make yourself.

Colossal Douche-Titan?

Has someone been watching Attack on Titan lately? :P
