No Right Answer: Best Heist Movie Ever

Best Heist Movie Ever

This one's going to start some controversy. Can Ocean's 13 stand up to The Italian Job for best Heist movie? Chris thinks so, but do you?

Watch Video

I don't think this will start controversy, because the answer was obviously the Italian Job none of us bothered watching the video to have that fact confirmed right? I must have just experienced some sort of hallucination where Oceans 13, _13_, _13_!!!, was named a better heist film than the Italian Job

I mean that would just be silly

Awww no love for the Bank Job? That's how a heist really goes down.

Maybe they were talking about the 2003 remake?

I have never said that someone is wrong for having a different opinion than me on something I love but today it has happened. You are just plain wrong.

If you had said Ocean's 11 Vs The Italian Job then I might have seen your point but 13?

Hell. No.

That being said I am English so I have to said with The Italian Job and Sir Michael Caine. It is basicly the law.

Don't worry Chris, I also liked 12...but The Italian Job is a hell of a lot better heist movie than all 3 of them. Err...all 4 if you want to count the Rat Pack one.

Even the remake of the Italian Job was better than any of the Oceans movies. Based on the second criteria: you have to want the "good guys" to win. I hated most of the characters in the Oceans films.

You're both wrong. The best heist film is Rififi.

Ah, good to see Kyle brought the '90s Canucks jersey out in time for the new season. Well done.

As to the debate itself, what is it with Chris and picking fairly recent movies? Surely there must've been something of an older vintage that outdoes the (admittedly pretty cool) Clooney "Ocean" movies. Does "The Great Escape" count as a heist?

El Portero:

Actually you're half-right. Those two are both wrong, but the best heist film is actually "Heat". Robert De Niro AND Al Pacino. Need I say more?

Kyle should have won this one. However, I think The Thieves, a.k.a Dodookdeul, is better than both of these.

The correct answer is actually Michael Mann's Heat, but good debate none the less.

Nope, it was the original with Michael Caine, the one that popularized minicoops in the first place.

Yeah, I'm going to have to join the class-action complaint against Chris for liking Ocean's Twelve. The whole sequence with "Julia Roberts" is hilarious, but the rest is fairly weak. Eleven is the best for being remotely grounded in reality and having interesting character dynamics, Thirteen is just so goddamn silly that you can't help but love it.

You have to be kidding me! I feel robbed!

The Italian Job all the way.
The Oceans films do not even compare.

Name a quote from the Italian Job "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!", "Hang on a minute, I got an idea"

From any of the Oceans films... (nothing comes to mind)

I liked your use of "celebrity cameos" in this one. As for Ocean's 12? I heard that one was a thinly disguised excuse to party at George Clooney's Italian villa on the studio's dime.
Well, I did not see Ocean's 13 would win, or that the original Italian Job would lose. Why not have the debate between that and the ORIGINAL Ocean's 11 starring the Rat Pack!

Agreed, I feel it should have been Heat.

There is No Right Answer... except this one. :)

Heat is a straightforward bank robbery, then it turns into one of the best shootouts ever put into a movie. One of the best parts? While most movies use dubbed gunfire sounds, Heat used the raw audio, echoing off the concrete buildings of downtown LA. Holy crap does that fight sound visceral.

No Heat? Comeon guys... No warm blooded male has ever seen the bank shootout and NOT wanted to be that...

Man, the best heist movie is definitely Heat. But, going off the movies being compared, The Italian Job is the best of the two movies by far. Still not as good as Heat.

I'd give it to 'The Italian Job', just for using the term 'cliffhanger' so literally. (Or did they spawn it?)

Italian Job is best of the two movies and best heist movie

Chris, considering your taste in movies and TV-series, you will never, EVER have any/enough friends to do a heist. Burn!

My disapointment is unwordable I second the complaint and also add this is all taken back if some how this was talking about the remake. Italian Job allt he way for me I am British so consider it bias if you must but its a much better film.

Either "The Thomas Crown Affair" or "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3." The originals, with Steve McQueen and Walter Matthau, not the crap remakes. "Ocean's 13" is a crap remake to sell George Clooney who is good but he's no Sinatra. "The Italian Job" is a crap remake to sell Fiats that aren't selling as well as German made Minis. If all these two fraternity bozos have to compare is crap remakes, this video isn't even worth watching. Which I didn't.

I don't even remember 13. 11 was great, and twelve was decent, but I remember not liking 13....gonna go and watch that tonite. Loved the Italian Job remake, so I'll have to go watch the original since it sounds different.

And Benedict was a dick, he admitted he cared more about his money than...I wanna say Trish. *IMDB* Tess...I was close...ish.

This one is Heat and it's not even up for discussion. And even if we remove that one from contention, who in the everloving fook picks one of the Ocean's movies and the THIRD one at that? Just wow. Fail on so many levels. Try again next episode.

But yeah. Heat.

What about Inside Man?

The only heist movie I ever really enjoyed is Inception, probably because it's premise is so different from your typical heist movie.

El Portero:
You're both wrong. The best heist film is Rififi.

Indeed. It is the heist film, all others are a shadow of its pure Platonic form.

In other news, get your skates on mate, get your skates on mate. No bib around your Gregory Peck today, eh? Drop your plates of meat right up on the seat. Get a Bloomin' Move On would have guaranteed the correct outcome. Quincy Jones FTW. Always.

You guys another arbiter, Kyle's getting dicked way too much.

Also you both lose for not mentioning Heat.

Yeah, exactly. Ocean's 11 is better than the Italian Job though.

...I like Ocean's Twelve

That is one of my favourite shoot out scenes ever. Once when I was watching this in my apartment I got complaints from 3 sides about the TV being too loud (would have gotten 4 sides but I was on the ground floor).

And as you can tell, my vote would have been for Heat

'You tossers! You had one job to do!'
Which comes from the one cockney character in the film, strangely enough.
