Escapist Expo: Dealing with the Spotlight

Dealing with the Spotlight

The game industry isn't exactly Hollywood, but being internet famous can still put you in a lot of situations that make you feel pretty weird. From fans recognizing you in restaurants, to the large piles of crap that can be piled on you in forums and comments, it's not always easy. This panel of the somewhat famous will speak to Dr. Mark about the overwhelming nature of this business, and how to cope with strange situations. The fans will also learn how these figures are just human like everyone else, and how a little respect can go a long way.

Participants:
Cliff Bleszinski
Gavin Dunne
Lisa Foiles

How was TotalBiscuit not on this panel? The subject matter is perfect for him.

I don't know, if I was in your guy's position I would refuse to use Twatter (kinda like I do now) because I just wouldn't want to be bombarded by all that shit. Plus I don't have a very thick skin. My skin is very very thin.

This was a really good panel! It's always important to be reminded that anyone who's considered to be a celebrity--be they Hollywood actor/actress or someone posting videos on youtube--is a person, first and foremost. They've got a real life separate from the one they lead on camera, and that should be respected. I think people sometimes forget that, and it's kinda sad when it leads to a bad situation.

But I'm kinda curious, was the panel only a half-hour long, or did the recording only start halfway through? It felt like something was missing at the start.

Unfortunately the main panel room recording had a bunch of audio issues. I recovered what was at least somewhat passable for this panel, but yes there is probably about 20 min missing.

Ah, okay. It's a shame that's missing, but I'm really glad that you uploaded what you could. Even cut in half it was still an excellent panel =)
