Sounds pretty great. Though of course this is the first I'm hearing about it so there's plenty of opportunity for it to be sub-par. Just in concept though, an open-world LotR game with an original story seems good to me. If they brought the combat over from the Two Towers / Return of the King games I would be even happier.

Color me intrigued.

Is it too late to give us the option of choosing between a male protagonist and a female protagonist, preferably non-sexualized? Any chance at all? None?

*sigh*

It's a Tolkien story, which by definition is almost always a Bromantic experience.
that said, I don't think being a guy is gonna be much of a point to this character or the game itself, but that is just my speculation.

I'm actually more interested in this "nemesis", mechanic, do they mean your arch-enemy will bring a military pick if you build your character around fighting in heavy armour? a proper shield if you specialise in archery? basic training and and a slight sense of survival against flashy legolas-style fighters?

Color me highly unimpressed. Specially with the studio chosen to develop it.

"Enemies with personality" sounds little more than just applying what Fable did with citizens to everything in general, and personalities did jack squat in those games as well, besides determining whether it took 1 tasteless fart animation or 3 tasteless fart animations to make them love you long time.

Nemesis sounds like a nice concept, but more so it just sounds like a way to avoid having a "boss character" that is insta-winnable against. Oh you got +50% to bow attacks, well he has +50% to bow defense because NEMESIS!.

And I have to question what lore could the game offer about the ring that we can't find for infinitely more cheaply elsewhere? It sounds more like a lazy hook than anything of great insight.

To be fair, in Tolkein's world women don't go off to fight in battle, which is basically how it was in the middle ages, the time period Middle Earth is inspired by. The only woman in the stories to do so was disguised as a man.

Not completely true both Galadriel and Arwen take part in battles (though not in the trilogy and they are elves) but I agree that a women would not fit in the setting

One could only imagine if this was being developed by Platinum....

Color me optimistic... Yeah, I know I really shouldn't be but hey, who isn't biased towards anything LOTR?

This could be the open-world RPG I have been waiting for.

I now am looking forward to getting a game informer for the first time in months.

I've been wanting an open world Middle Earth game for quite some time. Unfortunately, out of all of the developers to make the game, Monolith would be very low on the list.

Nerd mode activate! Sauron doesn't die at the end of The Lord of the Rings. He loses the greater part of his power and lives on as a spirit of malice, maimed forever and not able to take physical form.

OT: I hope that 'personal arch-nemesis system' won't mean silly adaptive difficulty that takes away all the satisfaction of becoming stronger. Other than that, I'd like to see some more original games in the Tolkien universe and I'll keep my eye on this.
