Franchise Movie DOs and DON'Ts

Seriously everyone, stop asking why he doesn't like Arrow before he actually answers it like he was planning to do all along in a long point-by-point comparison to Agents of Shield. Just be secure in your opinion of why you love the show, and let it go.

Related to the article, I had no idea how they were going to legally handle Quicksilver's slated appearance in the next Avengers, but now I learn that he is also going to be in Days of Future Past? However minor his role in either movie will be, this would be like releasing both Sam Rami's Spider-man and Amazing Spider-man within the same year. This is just going to confuse people not in the know about the comics. People like my parents.

They've already explained how Quicksilver is in. They can't call him or Scarlet Witch a mutant. They can't bring up who their father is. They can't bring up anything related to the X-Men universe at all except for the names of the characters.

Its a gigantic minefield of what you can not say which, for anyone who actually knows the characters, will be a confusin mess.

As for the Arrow thing. I guess people are confused how a show like Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gets a pass from Bob when he himself keeps talkin about how bland and fairly uninspired it is while Arrow gets called terrible.

By no means was Arrow great in season 1. It wasn't even very good because it was so incredibly formulaic, plus it was more like watching a show about the Punisher than Green Arrow because of the gigantic body count. However there's no denying that its gotten a lot better. There's actual character development, real honest character development, and the actors can actually portray that to some extent. I've gotten nothin out of that from Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at all and Bob barely has either.

Honestly, I think DC should keep making TV shows, because can you remember the last good Marvel TV show, that wasn't AoS?

Marvel has 'won' the silver screen, It's movies are impressive and each movie series, does have a different feel to it.

I really enjoy Arrow, as I never 'got' Green Arrow until I started watching the show. I did like how things are progressing in terms of character development, like Diggle calling Ollie out on quite a lot of things.

I think Bob hates Arrow because it doesn't follow the decades old canon, this is my suspicion. But ultimately, he may not like the show for other reasons. It is an OPINION guys. Just because it doesn't match your does not invalidate it.

I am still not a fan of Superman, and I don't think I will watch Man of Steel or whatever the next DC movie is.

The next live-action TV show on the other hand....

The implication that Arrow is a terrible show is astounding ... Sure, season 1 was slightly paint by numbers, but it was good at what it did. Season 2, so far, has proven that it can stand its own against some of the better superhero movies out there.

I have yet to see it, but has it changed everything about the character from the comics? What mindset should I go in with, because I love Green Arrow, from what I hear, this dude kills a lot of people and is a bit of a dick. Any of that true?Without spoilers, how would you, or anyone else recommend the show to a fan of the comic character, but with an open mind :) As I always take adaptions with a grain of salt.

Redd the Sock:
I liked it, but I do see a superman fan being off put by something rather out of character (he would have steer the fight out of town)

I liked it, as a Supes fan.

I'd say keep in mind that the first season is a bit shaky and he is in his very early years. It seems like he's blind to any problems that arent on his list, but he realizes he's wrong about a lot of thing eventually and becomes more like comics GA slowly, even starting to develop the liberal political bend.

Its funny, I feel so ambivalent about Batman/Superman, but if Arrow was to show up in it, id be smack on the hype train

Darth Sea Bass:
Yeah what's the deal with the Arrow hate bob? There are plenty worse show's out there.

Goliath100:
Bobby, why do you dislike Arrow? No really, I want to know to the degree that I want you to use next week column to explain this.

Edit/Extra rant:
The thing with the first season is that it was originally only 12 episodes, and some of the first episodes was bad, so with some of the fillers. But, it has a good passing, the writers know how to us the cast (exept Laurel), it's never dull and for the most part avoid easy drama. How do this qualify as terrible?

I second this. Sure, it's far from perfect, but it does a damn good job of expanding upon Green Arrow and creating its own take on his backstory and supporting characters - which, to he best of my knowledge, has never been done outside of the comics.

Kumagawa Misogi:
Why does Bob hate Arrow? that's easy to answer, the characters don't look exactly like they do in the comics therefore it is crap!

He did at least 3 articles on his Moviebob blog whinging about how Captain America had a non red, white and blue costume in the promo material for Winter Soldier before the trailer came out.

And look at the Batman costume hate as well. The only one he doesn't complain about is the lack of Thor's signature helmet.

The reason why most people including myself dislike/despise Arrow is for the simple fact that with only a moderate amount of appearances in a long running tv series, green arrow in JLU is a WAY more likeable character than the brooding and sad version, and that's the best they could do. Also what the fuck happened to happy superheros? It's like every damn show and movie has to have their icons and characters be those goth kids from south park; the appearance of non-conformity while unknowingly conforming to an already tired and worn out form.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that I knew that Bobby didn't like the superficial aesthetic of Arrow, but we are talking about man that have stated that:"[preference of aesthetics does not equal objectively bad]".

Well I'm not saying the aesthetics were bad, the city looked ok and so did the costume by adaptation standards, just the fact that the characters in arrow are shoddily written and the acting is on the same lowbar as syfy movies. Although im probably misinterperting what you meant by superficial aesthetics ><

Oliver Queen just spent five years in literal hell, genius... Then, when he got home, he was planted face first in a giant conspiracy to DESTROY AN ENTIRE SECTION OF THE CITY. He's only just learning that there's another way than to kill everyone, so going back to being a happy guy might take a while longer. Yeesh.
