Game of Thrones: Filler Thriller

It'll be like Sailor Moon all over again. Kind of.

OMG! I would want a beach filler like that! Also, a filler arc that involves a new character that wasn't originally planned that is completely important but never mentioned before.

You also forget the most important part of a filler arc/episode : It has to come from nowhere, has absolutely not link with the current plot, and then goes back to it without any explaination after killing off any characters created in the arc/episode so they never come up ever again.

SHIT! I havn't finished season 3 yet and that beach pic may have spoilt it. Doesn't really matter though, I heard the Red Wedding ep was harsh and I guessed what happened.

So many Naruto flash backs... no, NO, I DON'T CARE, JUST GET ON WITH SHIPPUDEN, I'VE BEEN WAITING MONTHS!!!

Also, is it me or was Erin looking even more kawaii then usual on the link image?

Hey, maybe I'd finally have a reason to watch Game of Thrones.

There's also the all important filler episodes of minor characters doing something completely irrelevant.

They will just make filler episodes while waiting for George R. R. Martin to write new books.
Or it will be just like the new hobbit movie, 300 episodes per one book.

Hah, even in the beach filler, everybody forgets Bran and Rickon exist.

I'm not sure which panel was more amusing, beach or cooking. Either way, as long as there's brutal violence and a decent amount of nudity, nobody will notice.

....Which is more or less the same for several anime shows.

GRRM has already given the guys that write Game of Thrones a detailed outline of the plot of the remaining books, exactly due to the reasons that he's slow as shit at writing them and them being unwilling to actually wait for him to catch up to the series.

Hehehe It's funny because so much of anime is terrible.

The eyes in the cooking part killed me. Good job.

I had an almost identical conversation at work last week. we agreed we might enjoy a beach episode to cheer the series up a bit.

Also i love the 3rd panel. Cute cannibal guy.

<mispost>

Cooking episodes, eh? Does that make all Hannibal episodes fillers?

But they did have a rather festive beach episode!

No, those are just part of the creators' grand plan of instilling pavlovian reflexes, and forever making you associate torture porn with a hungry feeling.

I have wondered before whether the deal is that they will only use that if he dies (so the TV series can finish even if the books don't!) or whether at some point the TV series will just overtake the books, forcing book-devotees to depart from the internet entirely in order to avoid spoilers.

Aaaaand that is why I usually stick to the manga.

Though ironically, I watch the GoT show, but haven't read the books. Huh...

Oh good God those faces. Cory, you are amazing.

MOAR ANIME HAPPYFACES

Heh, they already have filler episodes. They have advanced so far in the story that they are having to make things up and elongate the scenes.

Though this is mainly because the actual story of the books slowed down dramatically and instead concentrated on many different character arcs. Seeing as they have minimised and dropped so many of those for the television version, this means they have had to find things to fill in the gaps.

The funny thing is that anime normally tends to have beach scenes purely for an excuse to draw characters in bikinis, but GoT already makes up any excuse for nudity anyway, and of a much more overt nature as it is.

If you haven't read the books, that little arc doesn't really feel like filler. It's all a matter of perspective. If someone who has watched the show and then proceeds to read the books and finds inconsequential arcs in there they would complain that it was filler as well.

Although filler isn't necessarily a bad thing. Beach episodes and cooking episodes in anime just don't have any substance and a lot of the time break character, at least GoT has some filler with substance :P

Man. I wish this'd happen with Berserk. :|

I always wondered what was so great about those lemoncakes. Maybe we can find out and *gasp* make the cakes ourselves!

Oh god, don't even bring up Dirk the fookin' legend. For a series that prides itself on having a lack of proper villains because everyone has more than one character trait to them Dirk was such a poorly done character, even more so than some of the characters in the show (see; Oberyn, Joffery, Shae)

At that moment, I couldn't help but to imagine a musical episode about Varys wanting to find love.

I can't wait to see Tyrion vs Garlic Jr.

P.S. Thanks

I was thinking the same thing

Filler is the one thing that ISN'T going to happen (as hillarious as it would be), simply because it's too expensive to make the damn things. Unlike Naruto, this isn't some mid-tier mass-market anime; this is one of the most expensive HBO projects to date. Hell, the second season was debatable (for a while) despite the solid success of the first one simply because it cost so much to make.

What is most likely is that the show will go on a hiatus. Martin did give his notes to the makers of the show, but that was as a contingency for his death (Martin not being particularly young at this point). I doubt he'd let them use the notes to essentially spoil his book(s) ahead of time. And a hiatus would be a pretty bad thing, as key actors might float away to other projects and need to be recast.

That being said, it might not come to that. The current season is mostly the second half of Book 3, with some snippets from Book 4. They'll be able to squeeze at least 3 season out of books 4 and 5, maybe even 4 seasons. Martin's next book will be coming in the next year or two and will be "milkable" for a season or two. This'll leave him 3-4 years to get the last book out, which he might be able to if he stopped faffing about so much on side projects (he himself admitted that he was procrastinating the whole thing).

And personally, I can't wait for the Mass Effect 3-level of disappointment that the ending of the series will cause, because at this point GoT/ASoIaF is so big nothing will live up to the hype... :D

Absolutely forgot the obligatory musical episode complete with the entire cast dead and alive at that point (zombies must sing too) having minor parts or singing harmony, the flashback episode (aka clip show), and of course the long expository speech episode preceding some major battle or killing blow (actually that could fill multiple episodes between books considering the amount of characters killed by GRRM).

I know! An episode where a select few characters end up in the "future" and meet future counterparts of people they know who they have to help in order to return home.
Either that or they end up in an alternate universe.

I'm a sucker for beach episodes.

Endings don't have to be the best thing ever since orgasms. They just have to not suck as much as Mass Effect 3s ending did.
Remember Harry Potter. That one was as huge as A song of ice and fire, maybe bigger, and i can't remember any riots breaking out about the ending.

True, but HP had a much more straightforward and archetypal plot, while GoT is all about twists, convoluted schemes and chopping heads off expected character tropes. As a result, people will be expecting something truly amazing for the ending. The ending to HP was more or less predictable. I don't mean that in a bad way, but you pretty much knew who was going to win, who was going to lose, who might die and who had plot armour. Sure, there might be a degree of surprise about the specifics, but if you were even a bit genre savvy, you knew. Again, that isn't a bad thing.

GoT, on the other hand, is all about subverting expectations, so the task set before Martin when it comes to wrapping the story up is massively more difficult than what was put before Rowling. And everything I've seen over the three decades of life regarding fandoms and such tells me there's a shitstorm brewin' there... ;)

*Before seeing the last panel* Oh man, if it was like Naruto- it would totally have pointless filler and dumb bosses introduced.

*Seeing the last panel* HAHAHA Critical Miss knows too XD!
That made my day. I loved how accurate they were or on the ball with the filler.

This is why I haven't bothered watching the anime. I only watch the manga. Then again, unless the anime can keep delivering.... Bleach, Naruto, sometimes other animes can go into a bad habit of giving us pointless filler. Really sucks since it's so bad.

Where did you get this from?
I know he gave them the rough points so they can finish the show in the likely case of his demise from the abuse of drugs and whores prompted by his new found fame.
I don't think they plan to overtake the books, in fact there was talk of pulling a Spartacus and making a prequel season to buy him time. Dunk and Egg specifically, which IMO would work great.
