Sounds like a good, solid co-op mode to enjoy: shame you have to be Vektan scum though.

I also wish they would bring back Operations mode!

I could look it up, I guess, but the only Killzone that I played was the first one on PS2, and I never finished. Why are the Helghan the bad guys? Is it more than "because we say they are?" I don't recall anything from the story other than they settled on planet Helghan, were made sick by the atmosphere, or something. But got over it, and now they're at war with the "humans." I don't recall a "they tried to invade earth," or "they declared war" type story. Just, we're at war with em.

While I am interested, I'm not enough so to pick up a PS4.

Here is the storyline. The ISA decided to spread everywhere. Helghan decided they also wanted to spread everywhere. The ISA won.

Killzone 2: The ISA attack Helghast and destroy all their cities.

Killzone 3: The ISA blow up the Helghast planet

Killzone 4: The ISA give half their planet to the Helghast, and then get caught trying to create a weapon to wipe out the Helghast, but get pissy when the Helghast try to do it back.

They're also evil because they have British accents, look vaguely Nazi-like and they're not nearly American enough.

Go Helghast.

So...we play as the ISA as some kind of meta-narrative on the horrors of war, misguided patriotism, greed, genocide, and the corruption of ideals, yes? The entire game is a commentary about young men and women signing up to fight for the first person that convinced them they were right, right? Right?!

Basically, the Helghast are the designated bad guys because they look like space Nazis - the games themselves never go beyond this narrative, but the background lore actually fleshes out quite an in-depth tale of politics and conflict. To summarise it all, the Helghast have been fucked over by the ISA time and time and time and time again, and the games portray their desperate and justified attempts to exact revenge on their oppressors *from* the oppressor's perspective.

Totally not biased towards the glorious Helghast.

Hail Visari.

Go Helghast.

Well really, the ISA let the Helghast go settle a paradise world in exchange for insane amounts of payments, then kick them off said paradise world with a surprise invasion when they don't want to pay some piddling trade tolls, forcing the Helghast to go live on Helghan and die en masse from starvation and the death world's atmosphere - while keeping them under blockade so they can't have medical aid or food supplies - then declare them monsters when the Helghast try to liberate their old world.

The ISA fend off the liberation before launching an invasion of Helghan itself and end up uber-nuking it; killing countless millions of innocents and rendering the planet even more inhospitable. "Generously" letting the Helghast live on half of their (the Helghast's) old planet, the ISA proceed to tailor a genetic virus that is designed to exterminate the Helghast race. To quote Chairman Stahl: "And they dare to lecture *us* on morality!?"*

Fuck Vekta and fuck the ISA.

*Malcolm Mcdowell's excellent voice-acting being one of the few good things to come out of the travesty that was Killzone 3.
